Quote: This enemy can be fought solo! A lone bird spots you and glides in to attack. As you get close to it, you notice that while it's the size and rough shape of an eagle, it's not at all natural: its beak is made of bronze and its feathers are metallic and razor sharp. It attacks by launching feathers at you, or flinging its poisonous dung. Hit points: 25 Damage: 5 each time attacked If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following: 1-80: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 81-90: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-99: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.

There was a bird inside the hotel. Zan noticed an odd scuffling coming from between two of the walls, and before he could ask anyone if they knew what was going on, a metallic nightmare burst from a vent near the floor and barreled clumsily past some kid, scratching him on the way past. He might have temporarily ignored it and helped the child instead, but his priorities just weren't aligned that way.
The boy was barely bleeding while one of those things was still on the loose, holding the potential to hurt more people. Stopping it was noble. Godlike. His desire to give chase had nothing to do with the fact that it was a bird in a hotel.
He didn't shout, "Come here, you shiny ********> as he took off after the creature either. That would have been just ridiculous.

Wild, mythological birds were not meant to be indoors. As he jogged after it, Zan barely had to do anything to make it injure himself beyond shouting "Boo!" and flapping his arms like spindly, featherless wings. The bird crashed through the halls, humans parting in waves before it. He was perfectly content to let it continue bashing into door frames and knocking into walls, but the Chosen were starting to stare, mouths thin with disapproval. He supposed commencing to the killing wouldn't hurt anybody. Except the bird.
The next time they got close to a door, Zan motioned to a nearby survivor to hold it open, and with the most epic of "Boo"s yet, he startled the creature outside.

It ran forward, obviously excited to be back on its home turf, and Zan drew out his dagger, wary now for the same reason. He advanced, slashing toward the bird before it could turn around. It flapped wildly, so wildly that it buffeted snow past his feet back inside.

He had been lucky thus far, but now the bird was angry. As if it had been storing ire with every injury and humiliation, it spun and lunged for him, pecking at Zan's clothes and driving its talons into his chest. He was knocked to the floor, forced to wrestle with the creature to see anything more than whirling feathers and furious, beady eyes. He got in a number of good strikes, but it got in more, the only thing standing between him and a serious mauling his token from Hermes.

Eventually, Zan did enough damage to give the creature pause, and he kicked it away in a contemplative moment, scrambling to temporary safety a couple of feet away. He kicked again when it tried to approach, pushing himself to his feet to take it on more fairly, at least in his mind. It didn't stand much of a chance, a lone bird against a grown man with divine help, but he was only concerned about his own win. Therefore, any advantage he could get was fair. Obviously.

He lunged and sliced again, but the bird was quick. It avoided most of the attack and took off into the air soon after.

"No you don't," Zan muttered, taking a rather awkward running leap and grabbing at the bird's feet. It managed to keep him aloft very briefly, then crashed to the floor. Zan loomed over it, stabbing it one final time up under its ribs.Quote: HP: 20/50 Bird HP: overkill/25

Zan stood, panting as he looked down at the body. He prodded the bird with a boot, and when nothing significant came tumbling out, he slowly trudged back to the hotel. This was the dirtiest he'd ever gotten fighting one of these things and he just wanted to wash up.
