Hit points: 25 Damage: 5 each time attacked If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following: 1-80: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 81-90: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-99: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.

Rest? What rest.
It was becoming a restless pattern, one Tara knew would leave her sleeping for a week once she got back to the safety of her dorm room. Her muscles ached from the speakers, and her body was feeling the effect of going after so many of the birds already with little time to recover between each.
Yet... there she was, once more. Quiver at her back, bow in hand--strung and ready to go. Considering how many they'd killed thus far, Tara was actually surprised there were still so many of the birds out and about. It took a little bit for one to go after her, and she refused to fire the first shot.
Finally, one swooped her and caught her hair a bit, making her yelp and grit her teeth. Pulling back on her bow string, she let the arrow fly, and was rewarded with a murderous screech from the bird when it landed a gash in the creature's side.

One shot was not enough to take these targets down. Wonderful as that would be... No, this one flung another of it's sharp feathers her way and hit her, making Tara wince as she lined up another shot.
The bird tried to avoid her arrow, but she did at least manage to graze the thing. Stupid bird...

This time, when Tara got off her shot, she managed to pierce the bird's wing. It screeched, and for a second, she thought it'd drop to the snow like a rock. Instead, it dove for her, and though she somewhat sidestepped the attack, the bird's wing managed to slash her arm.
"Ouch! Ooooh..." Tara's cheeks puffed up as she glared at the fumbling creature. Freaking horrible birds... "Y'know, this wouldn't happen if you and your flock just left the area!"

The bird clearly wasn't having any peace talks. As if enraged by her commentary, the bird managed to get back into the air, and screeched bloody murder as it swooped her. Tara screamed despite herself, ducking and feeling it's talons sharp against her head and yanking her hair hard.
She'd been unable to get off a shot, and she felt hot tears of pain and anger p***k at her eyes. "It's true! Don't get pissy at me for something you caused! I keep saying we should move you guys somewhere, but where could you go where you wouldn't cause problems?"

She was pretty sure the bird flipped her off when it flung the metal feather at her. It stung--literally and a bit proverbially--but she was pretty sure her arrow stung more when she managed to fire off another shot at the bird.
It was hanging by a thread now, but it didn't seem to want to give up the goat.

This time when the bird swooped her, Tara didn't really bother firing the arrow. Cheap, maybe, but as the bird slashed her arm with its sharp feathers, she stabbed the arrow right into the wounded creature.
The resulting sight was morbid. It twitched and thrashed, skewered on her arrow in her hand. After a moment, it went still, and Tara was left with a bird on a hell of a stick.

The sight was disturbing enough that she just... dropped the arrow and bird, shuddering as she used the snow to clean off her hands. "Ok, not doing that tactic again," she murmured, before looking to the fallen bird.
"...I really do wish we could move you guys. But to where? You'd disrupt ecosystems with your violence. I doubt other animals could be around you safely, and you can't be around humans..."
Maybe that was just half the problem. Humans had managed to settle into pretty much every corner of the globe. If magical creatures like this existed, just barely hidden... then she figured the Chosen would have even more incidents like this, in growing number as developments and human populations grew and expanded. It was a sobering thought as she headed back into the hotel to warm up a bit before her next venture out.
