For as long as Tumelo had been traveling with his mother, Lerato, he had never seen this place. She had taken him to the tips of Zena to the southern borders of Sauti, but this place was something he had never seen. It was so far into the snowy woods that he couldn't see the lights of the village anymore. But this place they were going was labeled in his mother's journal, so it had to be right.
Still, the cold in Zena was nothing like the warm, sweet airs of Sauti. It burned his lungs and turned his pale cheeks bright red as he struggled to keep trudging a path through the snow. If there was too much of an uncleared area for his mother then she'd end up falling, and that would just cause them to both be miserable. Tumelo felt the cold tickle his throat enough that he just couldn't prevent a few coughs from escaping him.
"You're not going to fall over dead, are you? You die, we both die. And I will not be disgraced by dying in the woods with a weakling. There it was. As pleasant and in silence this small trip had been since they left the village behind, it was ended as if it were more fragile than snowflakes on a warm hand. He wanted to say something back, something that would maybe keep her from being so mean while he led her up the mountain, but nothing he could say would soften her words.. Atleast he could tell her that their goal was just a few yards ahead of them.
"I apologize... I'm not feeling under the weather, I promise you. Just the cold... And I think the place you wished to go is right before us... Mother, what is this place anyway? Who lives here?" The entry in her journal had stated that there was something she got from here a long time ago and it was a fake. The words "FRAUD" and "LYING WITCH" were scribbled all over the rest of her writings, so he could not make out what they had once said. And whenever she brought up, she scowled and swore she'd make that old witch pay.
"An old fake of a witch who cheated me years ago." The venom that dripped from her words made the young windling flinch, immediately regretting bringing her here. Whoever had wronged her really didn't deserve any sort of bad lashing from her, he truly believed that. It was too late now as Lerato took a large breath before bellowing at the house. COME OUT HERE, BABA, YOU OLD HAG! I'VE GOT SOME MIGHTY EXPLICIT WORDS FOR YOU!
