Quote: This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested! A small swarm of birds spot you and swoop in like they're of one mind to attack. Their bronze beaks glint wickedly, and their metallic feathers catch the sunlight. They attack by launching these feathers or by flinging their poisonous dung. Hit points: 60 Damage: 5 damage each time they are attacked. If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 15XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following: 1-60: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 61-75: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 76-90: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.

Tara was getting cocky. Or well. Not.... overly cocky. She was still cautious as she went outside the hotel. But she was definitely looking for another fight. Really, she was starting to form a system. Beat a bird, go back inside, warm up, rest a bit, and then... go back outside, beat a bird... Rinse and repeat.
She really knew so little about repairs and such that she didn't feel she was enough help in the hotel. And though she was more than willing to search for other survivors when approached... she was finding that, despite her adversity to killing the creatures... her best way of helping, was culling their numbers. Perhaps that was a bit cruel but... well.
As she strung her bow and made her way through the snow, searching for more of the metallic birds, she was feeling more apprehensive, rather than afraid. A job that needed to be done, rather than a horrific experience. Improvement, she guessed.

It was almost becoming like sport, killing these monstrous birds. Exhausting sport, but sport nonetheless. Rob put on his coat and collected his sword after getting patched up from the last battle he'd waged with one of the things. Time for some more sport. Heading outside, he spotted Tara fiddling with her bow as she trudged through the snow and bird carcasses. "Tara!" he called out with a grin and a wave. "Out hunting, I take it?" Rory was a little apprehensive about going back out to do what she could to help. Which meant bird hunting since she wasn't really good at building, and while she was willing to go hunting for survivors she hadn't been asked. And she was, strangely, enjoying getting rid of some of these feathered buggers. It was battle, and it was fighting, but it was fighting to defend those who could not defend themselves. She could live with that. With a smile, she had trudged back out into the snow to do what she could. It wasn't long before she heard someone call the name of the Chosen she had already fought birds with. Looking around, she grinned when she spotted the dark-haired Tara and waved her arms in her direction. "Tara! Hey!" she said and headed her way with a wave to the other person calling for the woman's attention. "Hiya!" Oh this was unexpected. While Tara was growing used to the idea that going out into the snows often resulted in her crossing paths with another Chosen, she was startled to have two joining her out there. She waved to Rob and Rory, grinning to both.
Even if she gave a sheepish smile and almost laugh to Rob's question. "Yes, actually. I've um... had a few talks with another of the Chosens, Mathilda? She helped remind me Artemis is a goddess of the hunt, and we're fighting these creatures to protect people so... it's not the moral dilemma it felt like to me." Or well. It no longer was.
"Still would rather we find a way to have these guys live peacefully elsewhere but... maybe after we reduce the numbers to a sustainable level for another environment." Hunts were often conducted for such reasons in the rest of the world, after all. It was a concept that was helping her at this point, a justification for her actions. A logical one, not a bullshit one, either.
"Rob, this is Rory. Rory, this is Rob." She made the quick introductions, and for a moment... had almost forgot about why they were out there.
Her eyes went wide though when she saw three glimmering shapes moving towards them, and quickly pulled out an arrow. "Incoming!"
No sooner had the word left her mouth did one of the metal feathers slash through the air, thrown from one of the birds and hitting her hand. She grit her teeth, and let the arrow fly, hitting the bird back that had thrown its feather at her. Sloppy, on her part, but at least she hit it.

Rob nodded at Tara's personal revelation. "Yeah, that makes good sense. Glad you've come to terms with it." Then he turned to the red-haired woman and smiled warmly. "Nice to meet you, Rory. I'm a Dionysus Cho-" Before he could continue, he was interrupted by Tara's warning. Looking up, he saw the swarm of three birds coming for them. "Right ladies, let's dance." Adjusting his grip on his greatsword, he waited until one of the birds was in range, then swung at it, only to have the bird evade the blade of the weapon. "Bloody hell," he swore as the bird flung sharp metallic feathers at him, one of them slicing through a dreadlock. Way to make a first impression. Rory came up just as Tara was explaining how she overcame her moral dilemma about fighting the birds. "Hey, I had the same issue," she said with a smile. "But you're right, this is protection and defense." She nodded once and held a hand out to Rob. "Nice to meet you too, Rob!" She looked up to the sky at Tara's warning and slid her shield into place as she took a few steps away from Rob. That sword looked like it could do some damage, and she didn't want to be in the way. While the bird evaded Rob's swing, it then headed for Rory...who was not prepared. Metal feathers sliced open the patches on her coat and dug into the skin of her arm. First Rob missed. Then Rory was caught off guard. By the time the bird came back around at Tara, she was apparently so not ready that when the bird hit her hands with its talons, she actually dropped her damn bow.
Yelping at the sparks of pain, she ducked quick to grab her weapon again, grumbling and cheeks hot. She swore she was getting better at this! Ignore the mishaps... "The birds also make it really easy to dislike them," she shot to the other two, glowering at the metallic birds that swooped and eyed them.

"b*****d," muttered Rob, readying his sword again. "Come on, Robin, you can do it." The bird came in for another dive, and once it was in range he swung the greatsword again. This time the blade connected, not a killing blow but enough to knock off a number of metallic feathers and draw some blood. With a squawk the monster flapped out of range, then defecated into a taloned foot and flung it at its attacker. Freeing up a hand, Rob pumped his fist. "Yeah!" He ducked just as the bird flung its payload at him, catching him in the shoulder. "Ugh," he grimaced, hesitant to touch the mess. What if it was acidic or something? Rory snorted and nodded her agreement with Tara's sentiment. "That they do," she said as she tried to keep an eye on all three birds at once. Rob at least got a hit in on one of the birds and Rory cheered for him. At least until he got hit with poo. "Use snow to get it off," she said, passing on the information Tara had given her before. Unfortunately, she had allowed her attention to wander too long and she felt talons digging into her back, shoving her forward and flat on her face as her arms flailed. "That was so smooth, Rory. Well this was going to hell in a hand basket now wasn't it? Tara nodded in support of the use the snow! method for removing the poop. Case in point... she yelped, a sound of disgust and surprise, as one of the birds managed to fling some onto her, catching her hand. At least it was bandaged... but she quickly shoved her hand into the snow to wipe the dung off.
Gritting her teeth once she was sure she was safe, she notched an arrow and lined up the shot. The bird that Rob had hit was still swooping around them, and Tara managed to hit the spot where some of the feathers had fallen off. It was just a graze, but she saw blood, and the creature didn't sound remotely happy so she considered it a solid enough hit.

Quickly Rob scooped up a handful of snow and used it to wipe the apparently toxic bird poo off his coat, making little disgusted noises the whole time. He was distracted enough by this that he didn't see the bird, wounded by Tara's arrow, swoop out of the sky until it was nearly on top of him. Of course, by then it was too late -- he couldn't hit it with his sword because it was too close. The best he could do was fend it off and protect his face from the monster's feathers. He managed to shove it away and swung the greatsword at it one-handed, which proved to be ineffectual at best. The blade pinged off the bird's bronze beak harmlessly. The red head knew for a fact that they could do better than this. They, as Chosen, were not going to be beaten by these birds. "We can do this!" she encouraged all of them as she got up from the snow. "We can beat these things!" They couldn't let a few (okay, more than a few) misses get them down. They had to win. Using a tactic that seemed to work pretty well the last time, Rory slid her shield off her arm and grabbed the edge in both hands. She swung it downward just as the bird Rob nicked in the beak came toward her and slammed her shield into the bird and then down into the snow. Just to make sure, she stomped her booted foot into the center of the shield. Fairly pleased with herself, she picked up her shield and slid it back into place. "One down!" she beamed. If these birds weren't deadly, Tara actually would have been laughing at the mess the lot them made. Each of them fumbling around with their respective weapons, trying to dodge dung, and metal feathers, and sharp talons...
As it was. This was a more dangerous situation than any form of laughter in the moment would allow. Hindsight? Sure, probably. Over a warm drink. Instead of a laugh, she cursed when another feather cut her. This time, cutting through her pant leg and catching her shin. She was going to have to patch that up now, too, ugh!
Rory's rough use of the shield earned a whoop of success and cheer from Tara, grinning. "Nice one!" One down, two to go. They could do this. They already had the odds in their favor. Tara closed an eye and aimed for one of the two remaining. Her arrow didn't do much unfortunately, just knocked some feathers off and pissed the bird off more. But hey, it hit so she was grateful for that alone.
