Mathilda grimmaced at the snow. It seemed to be coming down heavier than before. Plus the birds were still flapping around. During her rest, after her and Tara had rescued the young boy, she had reassuring thoughts about those lost out in the snow. How many were kids? People around here were still scatterbrained, and there were other areas people were probably hiding in, so head counts wouldn't be accurate. Straightening herself out from her position on the wall, she slowly walked around, glancing at faces and restorations, trying to figure out if she was missing any pieces of the larger puzzle.

Tara managed to locate some water bottles as she'd loitered around the hotel. Sitting still wasn't something she was finding possible, so she'd taken it up on herself to poke around to see what sort of extra supplies were located in the facility. Returning to Mathilda with the bottles, she offered one towards the blonde.
Her own gaze flitted about as she cracked open her bottle, taking a swing of the water. "Repairs are going decently... but I'm surprised the people here aren't more organized. At least it seemed like there were some taking charge, but... not sure if it's been enough."
Not that the constant threat of assaults from the metallic birds helped anything. Though, in a way, Tara was shocked the threats hadn't pushed people together more. Forced them to figure things out further--the repairs, getting accurate counts of who was around, and who was missing... all the things that the Chosen seemed to be working on, bit by bit, since their arrivals.
She took another swing of her water, sighing a little. "Wish they'd given us a bit more guidance before we'd gone through the Hearth..."

Mathilda smiled as she took the water from Tara. "They are scared. They were attacked by birds and then mysterious people showed up. If we can show them that we are friendly, they will be more open and helpful, but for now, we must wait." Mathilda through about the Chosen for a second as well. So far, they all seemed to get along, but they seemed to be separated into groups. She hoped that once they got back to 'campus', team bonding would begin. Hearing tara comment about the hearth, she nodded. "I agree. Going in blind isn't the best, but at least we are able to work well together. This definitely could have gone south very quickly."

It could have gone south pretty quickly. But hadn't. Divine intervention, luck, or did this odd collection of people called the Chosen actually learn enough in two weeks to pull this off? Maybe a bit of all, Tara decided with a small snort. "Think all the times we'll be sent out, it'll be like this? I mean, no real information, no real time to prep..?"
Just given the assignment and expected to carry it out. Tara took another swing of her water. She was... loosely aware of where Mathilda got her knowledge of how to use that dagger, from her previous talks with the woman, though Tara didn't really like to think about it all much. But in that moment, she wondered if this was similar to other... jobs Mathilda had had to do. Given basic info, location, sent out.
Tara was more used to jobs where she was given assignments to photograph wildlife in certain areas, or maybe trying to capture the image of specific creatures or specific events. Those were always the most difficult--and often required the most research and planning on her part to find, and photograph, the subjects. But she'd always been given more time to prep for her assignments--nothing quite like this.
Sighing a bit, she tried to focus on the present. "So, any more people approach you about missing people out there on the mountain?"

Mathilda reclined further into the wall, smiling. She did agree that the lack of prep was bad, but given that flying blind was something she was used to didn't phase her that much. However, it didn't mean she liked or encouraged it. "There is always a chance this is a test. Not that they would let loose killer birds, but that if anything went crazy wrong, some of the trained Chosen would step in. Killing off those who you need has never worked for anyone." Tapping her finger on her lips, Mathilda narrowed her eyes. "Flying blind, in any setting be it work or personal, isn't my style. You never know if the mark you're after carries a concealed gun, or has an angry stalker wife who can screw everything up. Injuries happen that way, so does death. I don't know the likelihood of me staying if it continues this way." The blonde nodded at Tara's question. "A few, yes. However, it seems they may be worried about the same person or people. It seems like it's a somewhat close knit community here. I'm not against heading out again, probably head out soon. You game?" -- Mathilda sighed as she looked up at the sky. It seemed these birds were determined to get in the way of everything. It would be difficult to run through them, but she had done it once before and would do it again. Breathing deeply, she ducked low and ran for it.

Tara immensely disliked the idea of Mathilda leaving, but really? What she said made perfect sense. Running in blind never helped anyone, and only increased the chances of something going wrong. Still, she pushed the glum thoughts away for now, instead more than focused on the prospect of finding others lost out in the snows.
"Let's go!"
Like before, Tara ended up following Mathilda through the barrage of birds, eyes peeled for any tracks or other signs of people moving through the snows. But even as she looked around, searching for signs of well... anyone, all she found were more birds. "Do you see anything?"

Mathilda smiled as Tara made it through the birds. Easy come, easy go. Nodding, she and Tara began to trail up the mountain, looking for signs of life. Once, again, the snow was falling and it made tracking a bit difficult. She huffed and spoke under her breath. "Why couldn't they have GPS or something?" Being out in the cold was not ideal, but if it would save people, then it was worth it in her book. Luckily, there were no birds around, and for that she was grateful. Birds meant trouble and if they had to secure one or possible more bodies, it may get dicy. She glanced at Tara as the girl glanced around the area. "The snow seems pretty thick. Hopefully, it won't get too thick." After a couple more minutes of searching, Mathilda heard a rustle, close to the ground. Recalling that she hadn't seen any of the birds walk one the ground, she moved closer. Motioning for tara to stay silent and follow her, she moved toward the bush. Gently pushing the leaves aside, her eyes widen at the sight. Two small boys, maybe no more than eight, were huddled together. Please, the man whispered, they are out there, I know it.Swallowing Mathilda raised her hands, both open. " Hallo, little ones. We are hear to help. My name is Mathilda and this is tara. We are here to help. Are either of you injured?" At the negative response, she smiled and helped the boys out from the bushes. Glancing round, she noticed that the landscape had gotten darker. They needed to get back, quickly.

The GPS comment made her snort, wishing such a thing could be useful here. She continued to look for signs of people whom might have gotten lost out there, but missed the sound of rustling leaves. When Mathilda motioned for her to be quiet and follow, she did so, nervous for the possible options of what could be hidden--person, animal, or maybe an injured metallic bird.
Pros and cons of it being the first on the list. Her heart sank to see the two boys, and she gave them her warmest, friendliest smile as Mathilda introduced her.
They quickly tried to get back to the hotel, but as they neared, some of the birds spotted them and in the chaos, the boys ran back to their hiding spot, frightened as the Chosens took out the birds. By the time the birds were down, the boys had vanished, and Tara cussed, shaking her hands where a few new scrapes had formed.

Mathilda cursed from her position in the hotel. Everything had gone so wrong so quickly, and she hoped those boys were okay. From losing the boys to being pushed back into the hotel, she was quite angry. Glancing at Tara, she glared at the bird blocking the path out the door.

Back at the hotel, Tara was fuming, and quickly tried to go back to find another way through the damn birds. At first she'd no real success, but she looked towards Mathilda, hoping the other woman would find the way through.

Mathilda scowled harder as the birds continued to fly in no particular pattern.
