■ ADVENTUROUS For Alec, life is an adventure. He enjoys experiencing new things and taking chances, even if it means he might get into some trouble. He may not *enjoy* learning, but he is naturally curious, and the natural world around him is infinitely more interesting than any dusty old textbook or droning professor. There's not much he'll say no to or shy from. Better to try than not to try at all, right? Even if he embarrasses himself.
■ ASSERTIVE He's not the slightest bit shy or timid, even around perfect strangers, and he sees those who are more quiet or reserved as a personal challenge. He talks fast and energetically, often barely pausing for breath, or to think about what he's saying. Careful and deliberate Alec is not. He sees no point in being subtle or passive aggressive, and typically says exactly what's on his mind the moment it occurs to him.
■ RECKLESS Alec is a risk taker, and usually doesn't stop to wonder what the consequences of say, balancing on the landing banister might be if he falls. He typically doesn't stop to consider the consequences of his actions, because, after all, what's life without a little excitement? Right? He often comes across as in a rush, and frequently leaves messes in his wake.
■ DEVIOUS He has a somewhat conniving love of pushing boundaries and seeing just how much he can get away. The idea of 'working for something' is completely foreign to him. If he sees an easier route to an objective, he'll typically take it. He's not afraid to lie his way out of trouble, even if it means throwing someone else under the proverbial bus.
■ OBLIVIOUS For someone from a famously Slytherin family, Alec is fairly oblivious. This isn't the same thing as innocent: he's by no means naive or trusting, but things do frequently tend to go right over his head, and he's not the best at pinpointing subtlety. However, growing up with his older sister has instructed him in the art of passive aggression.
■ ADAMANT It's not so much that Alec is stubborn so much as it is that he hates to be proven wrong, even if he isn't always the most accurate with his facts. He tends to embellish the truth a bit, sometimes unintentionally, and is quite the story teller. However, he is fiercely loyal to the people he feels who have proven themselves to him all the same.

CHILDHOOD Alec is the youngest child of the only child of the second son of the patriarch of the Avery clan. The product of an arranged marriage, he was a relief to his parents, as they finally had a male child, an heir, five years after his older sister Sera was born. While not as wealthy as other pureblood families, Alec has enjoyed an upper middle class upbringing with many perks of its own, and he's had a happy enough childhood thus far, although the incarceration of some family members had made their surname a bit of a laughingstock and a disgrace. Growing up there was a fair share of tension between him and his elder sister, as he was the favored male child who consumes most of the attention of the adults, but distance makes the heart grow fonder, and he and his sister are a little closer now than they used to be, although they still frequently bicker. Alec despised his charms school, and gave his teachers and sometimes his parents their fair share of grief with his wild behavior. For the first time in his life he is attempting to be on his best behavior, as he had been looking forward to attending Hogwarts for years now.
SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR Alec's first year was horrifying, at least at the start, as he was sorted into Gryffindor and not Slytherin. But despite his initial outrage over where the house had placed him, he privately admitted that he seemed very well-suited to the house, and he did manage to make one friend, an opinionated, bold girl named Lucy. He also felt slightly indebted to his sister, who defended him to his furious parents when they came home for the summer.
SECOND YEAR After a terrible summer, Alec began his second year with a simmering resentment for his parents and their 'Avery legacy'. He didn't much care if being in Gryffindor made him a terrible heir; from now on he was going to do as he liked. He tried out for quidditch and became a reserve chaser, and mostly looked forward to being able to choose electives next year, as well as enter Hogsmeade on weekends.
