Starting a Quest Thread
This is the place to flesh out character ideas and to get them approved by our staff.
Please Note: Getting a Quest Approved does not mean that your character will automatically get artwork. In order to get art of your character, you will need to get a Custom slot. On rare occasions, the Quest Fairy may grant a lucky, active RPer a special Custom slot, or free art, as well.
Please put one of the following tags somewhere in your Quest Thread's title, so that we know what stage your quest is in:
[UC] - Under Construction. Nobody other than the author should post in the thread. [LFC] - Looking For Critiques. Anyone is welcome to read through the quest and give the author constructive criticism in order to help them flesh out and improve their idea. [AP] - Approved. The quest has been approved by one of our staff members. =D Yay~ A journal will be set up for you shortly. Once you set up the journal, you may RP and participate in events to your heart’s content.
If you're having trouble starting your Quest Thread, feel free to use the following form to get your thoughts flowing. Feel free to expand and elaborate, of course: Name: [Something of Hawaiian/Polynesian/Maori/etc origins or inspiration] Race: [Are they pure-blooded or a rare mixed critter?] Gender: [Male, Female, or Androgynous] 3 Base Traits: [The three dominant points in your character's personality.] Personality: [Expanding might help you find those three base traits. Try to keep it balanced and realistic. Have a few positive and a few negative traits.] Description: [What does he/she look like?] Clothing: [What are they wearing? Remember to keep the race's resources in mind!] Accessories: [Does your character always carry something with them? What and why? Perhaps it's a practical satchel or a sentimental necklace. For the most part, children will be allowed one accessory to start with, but others may be added on as they grow.] History: [They start young, but everyone has a story. This won't have much effect on your character's appearance, but it may help you start fleshing him/her out.]
Approved characters are welcome to:
|| Set up a journal. || Roleplay in the world of Kahikina. || Participate in Adventures and other RP-related events.
Approved characters cannot grow until:
|| They've received official art. || They've had official art for the required growth time for their stage. || They've completed all growth requirements.

Character Availability
While we want everybody to be happy here, we feel it's necessary to put in some established guidelines for the availability of a certain type of character when questing to keep a balance in order. (These do not limit or apply to character breeding.) Information on obtaining a hybrid character can be found further down the post.
Number in parenthesis are characters already in play.
Full Kaha'iko || common (12) Full Menehune || common (8 ) Full Hapuna || common (7) Full Moakai || common (7)
Hybrids Kaha'iko/Menehune || rare (0) Kaha'iko/Hapuna || ultra rare (0) Kaha'iko/Moakai || ultra rare (0) Menehune/Hapuna || ultra rare (0) Menehune/Moakai || ultra rare (0) Hapuna/Moakai || uncommon (1)
Physical Anomalies (heterochromia, albino, etc.) || Event only! Non-physical Anomalies (blindness, deafness, etc.) || Staff approval before starting a quest!
What This Means For Questers
Hybrids || You are only allowed to quest for one mixed character per two pure-bloods that you own || This is for questing only. You may win or breed hybrids without limit (and won/bred hybrids do not count against this questing restriction).
Growing Approved Quest Characters || Approved quest characters cannot grow until they've received official art and have had official art for the time required for their stage. || They have to have completed all growth requirements.
Availability || This post will be updated regularly with which characters are currently unavailable due to an overabundance or other such reasons and will be labeled as such. || Races that cannot be quested at this time (including custom slots, events and contests). They may only be bred until further notice: xxxxAll Kaha'iko hybrids xxxxAll Menehune hybrids || Races that can only be quested or won as children: xxxxHapuna/Moakai hybrids

Picking Hybrid Traits!
To keep our owners on the same page as staff, we've put together a list of how hybrid traits work in Kahikina. When questing for a hybrid, these things should be taken into consideration. (The same also applies to how our artists work on breedings, too!) If you have any questions, as always feel free to ask!
General Traits || The individual colors of a race’s traits cannot mix! A hybrid cannot have a hair color that is a combination of two races, ie: a mixed bluish brown color for kaha’iko/menehune hybrid. The color has to come from one race or the other. (This is for all traits.) || Traits are very much “all-or-nothing”. A hybrid cannot have an altered or in-between shape (such as bumps instead of barbels). Either the trait is there in full, or it isn’t there are all. || Traits must match up to their “major” or “minor” category, ie: a kaha’iko/menehune hybrid can have menehune scale colors from the “major” color range, and kaha’iko scale color from their “minor” color range, but cannot have a menehune color from their “major” range and a kaha’iko color from their “major” range (etc). || The above also applies to hair, ie: a kaha’iko/hapuna hybrid can have “main” hair from the kaha’iko and “ombre” hair from the hapuna, but cannot have “ombre” hair from the kaha’iko and “ombre” hair from the hapuna (etc). || Scale patterns must be from one parent or the other, patterns cannot mix. || Scale location must be from one parent or the other, locations cannot mix. || Unique species traits are limited to one per character, ie: a character cannot have barbels and fins, they have to choose one or the other. || Alterations to traits such as heterochromia are event only traits! In order to keep things fair and keep these traits rare, staff will release altered traits only through events (heterochromia, albinism, melanism, etc).
Kaha’iko Hybrids (River) || Kaha’iko hybrids with menehune can have the hair color from the menehune or a kaha’iko color from the “main” color range if they don't have a full ombre.
Menehune Hybrids (Swamp) || Menehune hybrids may have barbels that differ in numbers from their menehune parent. || Menehune hybrids with races of multi-colored hair can use the menehune color as a “main” color only, ie: hair cannot ombre to brown at the tips.
Hapuna Hybrids (Reef) || Hapuna hybrids with menehune can have the hair color from the menehune or a hapuna color from the “main” color range if they don't have a full ombre. || Hapuna hybrids with moakai must have their hair colors match their scale colors, ie: a character can have moakai "main" colors for hair and scales, and hapuna "minor" colors for hair and scales but cannot have moakai dark ombre with hapuna light scales.
Moakai Hybrids (Deep Sea) || Moakai hybrids may have a forehead lure in a different size than their moakai parent. || Moakai hybrids with menehune can have the hair color from the menehune or a moakai color from the “main” color range if they don't have a full ombre. || Moakai hybrids with hapuna must have their hair colors match their scale colors, ie: a character can have moakai "main" colors for hair and scales, and hapuna "minor" colors for hair and scales but cannot have moakai dark ombre with hapuna light scales.
