Mercy found herself charged [ more like she was asked ] with the task of fortifying the hotel with whatever she could find. While this would seem like it was something easy, she wanted to make sure that whatever she came up with would help the civilians defend the hotel nicely and safely, which meant that she had to make sure she didn’t make some sort of hazardous weapon. She took a look around, gathering anything she could grab and setting them down on the big mattress she found.
"Now let's see..."
Mercy sat down on the edge of the mattress, and grabbed the logs first, turning them over. What could she possibly do with some logs? "Well, I could use the Logs as stands to hold the mattress up?" That sounded like a good idea to start with! If she had an axe, she could use it to chop the wood down enough to turn it into spikes that could poke out of the mattress as it faces the window. Maybe she could use the knives instead? There was also some knives from the platter she found as well that would work too.
With her idea in mind, Mercy cut small holes in the mattress with one of the steak knives from the kitchen, inserting most of the silverware and other steak knife into them. Halfway through she decided to change tactics, breaking the plates so she could insert them into the mattress as well with the silver platter in the middle to reflect any light that may shine which would maybe hurt the metal eyes of the birds? She didn’t know for sure but it didn’t hurt to try. If there were any scavengers trying to take advantage of the disarray the hotel was in, then any light reflected off of the platter would wreck their eyes too at least.
Now that her mattress was all deadly and sharp, she lifted it up on the non-lethal side, pushing it up against an open window. The logs were set in place behind it to give some sort of support [ not that it was going to do much good since these birds were made of metal ], Mercy did the final inspection just to make sure she didn’t forget any of the items she brought with her. When she didn’t find anything else, she picked up her hammer and stood back to admire her handiwork, nodding with approval. It might not keep the birds out for too long, but at least it would give anyone standing by a heads up.
Hopefully there wouldn’t be any children around, she didn’t want to be responsible for any accidents or cases of the kid that wanted to play with the sharp stuff poking out from the mattress. An angry mob of parents was a force to be reckoned with and was ten times scarier than a flock of metal birds trying to rip your face off. There was also another plus [ not that hurt kids or an angry parent mob was a plus ]:
Any flying dung would be caught in the knives as well, which could poison any stupid bird willing to touch the mattress. Win Win!
