Rose slipped out of the Hotel and nearly collided with a very solid force. Gripping the other's shirt, she lifted her blue eyes in surprise - up, he was tall - and met the familiar gaze of a man she was getting to know quite well. "Cas!" she breathed, a smile warming her face. She was a bit unkempt but it was nearly impossible to call her messy or out of place -- even with flyaways in her up-swept hair and the scratch on her cheek, she was ever a picture of poise. "Thank goodness." Lowering her hands, one of hers grasped his and immediately started to pull him away from the building, towards the lifts some distance away. "There were some people inside who are asking after missing family and friends - and kids. Cas, we have to help -- " She sucked in a sharp breath and dodged back against the man as a bird nearly took to her temple, holding his hand tighter. The songstress didn't dislike birds but that was possible to change in the next twenty four hours. Rose's Stats Hit Points: 47 Weapon: Bow (4 base, +1 dmg)

There was a certain sort of chaos reigning here that Cas wasn't terribly used to. It wasn't the external forces, it was more that, internally, it didn't seem like his side had much of a plan. Nor had they received much intel before being, both literally and figuratively, thrown into the fire. And Cas was used to something much more regimented. Set plans of attack, defense, retreat.
Here, there was nothing, and an odd dissonance rang in his ears even as he began to recognize Rose's voice and her grip on his hand.
Before he had had much time to regroup after his made dash through the birds, he found himself being led off again, though with little complaint on his part. Better to be doing something, regardless of what it was.
"Okay," he said finally, eyeing the flock of birds winging through the sky. "People trapped outside." He paused, looked at Rose, tightened his grip on her hand, and ran.

She nodded wordlessly at him when he looked at her. Ready. And they ran. But the birds - the metallic bastards were watching, and they weren't just your run-of-the-mill Hitchcock variety. Before Rose could even draw in a breath for a warning, the flock of metal wings descended upon them. She seized an arrow out of her quiver and slammed it up into one of the beasts as it razed her arm, retreating with a grip on Cas. Rose's Stats Hit Points: 47 - 3 = 44 Weapon: Bow (4 base, +1 dmg)

The grind of metal against metal sent a satisfying hum up Cas' arm as he lifted the sword and smashed it into a bird. Which was small consolation as a mob descended upon them and pushed them back. Evidently, getting out of the hotel would be just as hard, if not more so, than getting in.

The flock passed, and Rose took the opportunity to dart forward again. The knee-deep snow sure wasn't helping, but with Cas there, she felt like she could take on a battalion of the birds. Probably not, but she felt like it. Rose's Stats Hit Points: 44 Weapon: Bow (4 base, +1 dmg)

These damn things. Part of him felt like just ripping them out of the sky. Wondered how effective his bare hands would be, as opposed to the sword so sharp it could probably skin someone alive.
Didn't matter. He watched as the flock moved and snaked through the air, waited for an opening, and then ran.

They almost got to the lifts, and for a moment, Rose thought she saw a figure huddling inside the stand. It was impossible to tell with the broken window and tatters of what looked like blinds whisking back and forth in the unfriendly weather, but it was enough of a distraction that she didn't see the next pass of the flock. The birds caught her unaware, gripping her hair. It fell out of its bun, and with a sharp sound of anger more than pain, she darted back to safety. With her eyes taking on a more steely blue, she refastened her hair and set her jaw, touching Cas' elbow before she took off across the snow at a sprint. It seemed to work, her hands pressing up against the small booth that she'd thought she'd seen movement in. Looking back to make sure Cas was with her, she tilted her head towards the inside of the booth, and took the moment to search outside of it. Not that she thought anyone was insane enough to not hide, but in case someone was injured... Rose's Stats Hit Points: 44 - 3 = 41 Weapon: Bow (4 base, +1 dmg)

He saw Rose reach the booth and peer inside. He was several steps behind her, and as she began to search, he glanced up, saw the flying devils begin to descend.
"Damn it," he spat at the winged creatures even as he knocked some of the leaders away, catching scratches and pecks on his arms and shoulders as he ran to Rose.
He grabbed her by the shoulder as more of the flock began to descend. "Fall back!" he yelled, pointing his sword toward the hotel.

Rose rounded the booth and was immediately met by a very angry murder of metal birds. She barely managed to cry out a warning of "Cas!" before she ran back around the building. Unfortunately, they followed. She barely made it back to the hotel before the birds gave up the chase. "We're going to have chicken marsala at some point just for me to feel like I'm higher on the food chain again," she murmured under her breath, partially to Cas, partially to herself. And she ran. "How about a whole roasted chicken," he suggested grimly. "Or a freaking turkey."
Cas eyed the birds again, feeling determination rise up in him. The soldier in him kept him calm. The rower in him refused to lose to these metal death contraptions. He wasn't about to let them beat him back one more time.
"Ready?" he said, looking over at Rose. "Let's go."

She ran, filled with something between anger and heated resolve. There was someone that needed them out there, and seeing the hell they were going through, she could only imagine how a civilian had to feel - a child, trapped out here for days -- The self-righteous upset of it all was enough to spur her back to the booth, this time not moving until Cas reached her. Rose held onto his arm for a moment, watching the flock circle, and once it had moved on, she nodded to him with a grim smile. "Turkey it is," she replied before sliding around the building once more. Rose's Stats Hit Points: 41 Weapon: Bow (4 base, +1 dmg)

He all but dragged them through the snow and the flock, driven more by sheer force of will than any real efforts to knock the birds away. They ran until the flock quit chasing, and then, breath frosting in the cold mountain air, Cas slowed and found himself look around, studying the snow in search of clues.
"Who are we looking for?" he said finally, eyes glancing this way and that. "Anyone in particular?" Then again, he thought grimly, there were probably dozens of people trapped outside with no way to defend themselves and clothes that wouldn't necessarily keep them warm enough for long enough.
What footsteps remained undisturbed in the snow weren't easy to track, but there was a trail nonetheless. He pointed. "That way?"

"A boy," she answered softly, following his indication. "His father is injured and his mother begged me to look around here if we came out this way." Her blue eyes flit back to Cas. "So I made sure to come out this way." Dropping the bow off her shoulder, she knocked an arrow into place - just in case. "I'll cover you." Rose slid up behind Cas, looking up to cover their tail, just in case. Rose's Stats Hit Points: 41 Weapon: Bow (4 base, +1 dmg)

A kid. Cas bent to take a closer look at the tracks, using what tracking skills he'd acquired as best he could. It wasn't the same though - snow and sand didn't imprint the same way. Still, he could tell the trail led to a row of low bushes.
With a nod, he sheathed his sword and moved forward, half crouched, balancing on the balls of his feet. He followed the steps until they reached the bush, and then he sank even lower and pushed some of the branches away.
The boy cowered inside, surrounded by leaves and twigs, shivering.
"Hey," Cas said gently. "You're alright. We're here to bring you back." The kid didn't move for a moment, and Cas waved him over. "Come on, champ, we gotta go."
The child crawled forward and into his outstretched arms. "Yea, it's cold out here, isn't it?" he said, wrapping one arm around the kid. "You're alright."

An arrow fired off, knocking a feather loose from a bird that thought it would try to lead a charge. It squawked angrily and circled back, buying them just a little more time. Glancing over her shoulder, Rose couldn't repress the smile that formed at the sight of the cold child, relief escaping her in a soft sigh that crystallized in front of her lips. "That's it sweetheart. Your mom is worried sick, we're getting you back to your parents now."
Another arrow was put in place, her eyes - now a bit more bright than steely - fixing on Cas. "Let's run, my savior, and make it one piece. We've a turkey date to uphold." She flashed him a smile as she set her bow in place, and took up pace right behind the man and the boy.
Nothing was going to touch them, not on her watch.
