Quote: This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested! A small swarm of birds spot you and swoop in like they're of one mind to attack. Their bronze beaks glint wickedly, and their metallic feathers catch the sunlight. They attack by launching these feathers or by flinging their poisonous dung. Hit points: 60 Damage: 5 damage each time they are attacked. If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 15XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following: 1-60: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 61-75: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 76-90: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.

After she and Rob had finished as much of their barricading and fortification as they'd been able, with what supplies they'd found, Tara had considered going to try and help with more fortifying attempts. But it kept nagging her how little she knew about the creatures.
It was a horrible idea. She knew it was. Even as she grabbed her bow and arrows, braced herself against the snow, and trudged out of the hotel. She knew it was a horrible idea. But she... she did want to try and examine the creatures more closely. If they were being controlled by something, maybe she could examine one and get a clue?
Preferably without getting her fingers chopped off.
Didn't take long before some of the birds spotted her. Arrow at the ready, she paled a little, gulping, when she realized there were three birds, not just a single metallic bird heading her way. "One for the money, two for the show," she murmured, trying to keep her spirits up, adjusting the grip on her bow. Well. She wanted more experience with the creatures. She was going to get it.

Juliet was no stranger to cold - winters in New York could get absolutely frigid - but the Swiss Alps were something all new. That, and now there was the threat of magical monsters that wanted to, probably, make a meal of her. That was definitely very new.
She had trudged out into the snow alone, which was what one might call "very, very dumb," but she was still within sight of the hotel, so obviously it would be fine.
Obviously.
Still, when she spotted someone else carrying a weapon - a bow - she found herself letting out a slightly relieved breath and jogging over, even if the other woman was already getting attacked.
"Would you like some help with that?" Juliet asked, wringing her hands a little around her staff. She could do this. She could do this. She could do this.

When she heard the sound of footsteps through the high snow, Tara glanced only a second towards the source. She'd half-expected to see Rob again, but was surprised to instead see a woman she'd not met before. A Chosen, obviously--who else would be out here?--but not one she'd had the pleasure of conversing with. Till now.
"Yes, please," she grinned, focusing back on the incoming trio. "Careful, they're made of metal, fling poop and-- oh!"
One of the birds shot one of the sharp feathers her way, and though Tara ducked, it still sliced her cheek a little. "And do that!" Readying her arrow and taking aim, she fired back at the bird that had nicked her, and was rewarded with a pained screech from the metallic avian as her arrow sliced it's side. The bird wobbled on the wing, and it's two fellows screeched at her and the other woman, but Tara didn't flinch this time.
She just hoped she'd have the nerve to deal with... if they had to kill these birds...

"Fling..." Juliet wrinkled her nose and moved out of the way of one of the aforementioned flings, only to take a razor feather across her shoulder for the trouble. "...That's just disgusting." Still, she shifted her grip on her staff and leapt forward into the action, swinging it as hard as she could at the bird the other woman's arrow had clipped and contacting it center mass, practically knocking it out of the air - at least for a little. She hoped. These creatures had to go down, to protect the poor people out here and maybe, just maybe, stir up some of what was causing them to attack.
"You alright?" She asked her companion. Not that there was much to be worried about just yet, they were only barely getting started.

Yeah, no Tara hated the dung stuff, too. She let out a whoop, cheering her new teammate on when the other woman slammed her staff into the injured avian. It hit the ground, cawing and screeching. One of the others dove for Tara, and though she was able to knock it back with her bow, it scratched up her arm a bit for her trouble. Loosing another arrow into the fallen avian, she silenced its cries.
"Artemis, you and I are gonna need to have a talk about all this," she mumbled softly, before notching another arrow and looking at the two remaining, and circling, avians. "One down, two to go..."

Juliet was grinning brightly as she moved onto the next attack, whacking one of the other birds solidly with her staff. It got her a feather in the shoulder for her trouble, but she barely felt it - she was actually almost having fun, as much as she thought she wouldn't like having to hurt animals.
They were hurting people. And they were monsters with toxic crap and sharp feathers. These weren't her neighbor's cockatoo, or the pigeons she sometimes fed.
She could do this. She could fight them.
Especially with a maybe-future-friend at her back.
"We've got this!" She said, hoping to be encouraging.

Tara yelped as the talons of one of the birds caught the back of her hand. Birds were god damn mean! Of course, they were all fighting for their lives, so Tara couldn't hold it against them. "If you weren't hurting people, we wouldn't have to do this," she snapped at one of the birds that screeched at her.
At least her companion was in optimistic spirits about their fight. The woman was holding her own against one of the birds, and Tara aimed her arrow for the other, catching one of it's wings. Some of the metal feathers fell from it's wing, and though it was still flying, it was clearly having a hard time of it. "You're really good with that staff," she called, trying to cheer the woman on. Tara at least could try to back up from the fight. Melee weapons like that? You were right in the fray.

"Thanks!" Juliet called back. "You're not bad yourself -- oops!" Another feather, this time directly across her cheek, but it really just stung - which was good, she kind of liked that so far it felt like she wasn't actually taking much damage.
Her next swing was a bit wide, just clipping one of the birds in the feathers. "Shoot!" She said, frowning and mentally berating herself. She would have to do better!

Tara would have called back a thanks! had one of the birds not chosen then to fling a disgusting round of dung her way. Though Tara managed to avoid most of it, some splattered onto her jacket, the smell making her gag. Giving the damn bird time to swoop in and hit her forehead with one of its sharp claws. Yelping, she managed to jab up with her arrow, landing a good hit on the bird.
It screamed and hit the snow, but managed to leap back into the air. Tara groaned and used a moment to pick up some snow, trying to pack it against her forehead to stop the bleeding, and also cleaning off the damn smelly s**t...
Literal. Ugh.

Juliet was beginning to hope they might actually be able to finish these creatures off -- even if her poor unfortunate companion got hit with some of that. Lovely. Bird s**t. It wasn't as if it was entirely unfamiliar to Juliet, but honestly, she would really do just about anything to avoid having an up-close-and-personal encounter with bird s**t.
Just. No.
Still, she jogged over closer to the other woman, so she could take a hard swing at the bird Tara had stabbed and knock it completely out of the air.
"Two down!" She said, hoping to sound as encouraging as possible, but then the third one swooped in and raked its talons across her head, and she swore loudly. "Ow! ******** - ow!"
She wasn't usually one to raise her voice or swear at all, but...well, pain, and angry birds, and this was not really in any way what one would consider a normal situation. She felt she was allowed a few f-bombs when she was under literal, actual attack by literal, actual monster birds.

"Almost there!" She was trying to keep her optimism here. They were doing pretty damn good against the birds, and Tara was more than happy at the general progress. And while meeting new people was always awesome, she definitely wished it was under better circumstances.
When the other woman came closer, Tara had by then managed to clean off the flung dung, and was doing ok (-ish...) at keeping the blood out of her eye. She'd been too late to notice the last bird swooping the woman, and with a cuss of her own, managed to fire a shot at it. The arrow nicked the bird's back, and it screamed, slicing her hand with another feather. Tara grit her teeth, but managed to get a look at her companion.
"You ok? Did it get you bad?" The protection offered by their deities did well to keep the injuries from becoming too severe, to a point, but Tara was noticing she was beginning to pant a bit more, feeling the stress of the fight, and the impact of the feathers, beginning to take its toll.

Juliet winced, feeling a little bit guilty for her outburst when really, she hadn't been hurt too terribly. "No, I'm alright, just -- surprised me!" She said, but she pushed a smile back onto her face. She would be fine, she was sure, she'd just maybe have to get it looked at to make sure the wound wasn't infected.
The bird came around for another sweep, and this time she managed to throw up her arm in time to protect her head, but the cuts there still stung even with the protection of whatever shields their Gods gave them. This time, when she moved her staff to attack, her grip was off and the bird was just too quick, and she missed it completely.
"Damn!"

The bird managed to shoot a feather at Tara, and she yelped as it sliced her leg a bit, through her jeans. "Damn it!" Though the other woman missed, her arrow managed to find it's way to nick the bird's back, making the thing cry out in it's own rage and pain.
"I'm thinking a long rest is in order after this... and after we make sure our injuries aren't too bad," she added with a wince.

"I agree," Juliet said, trying to rein in her own heavy breathing. This wasn't at all easy, and it was starting to make her a little less optimistic about the whole thing than she'd been previously. Still, surely they could manage just one more bird! They'd already taken down two - this last one would be no trouble at all.
She hoped.
She shifted her grip on her staff again, and swing, but once again the bird moved quicker than her and she earned a metal feather in her back for her trouble.
"Ow," she said, very quietly, wincing.
