Part 1 (Alarion Solo)
She wondered if she really should continue on to go seek out her father? There was much to catch up on with him. If he was still alive… No! No there was no room for thoughts like that. Of course he was alive. Her father was strong and stubborn. The fires wouldn’t have been able to beat him. More than likely, he hadn’t been around them. Her father did love the desert. But she hadn’t seen him since the great fire blazed and destroyed so much of the land. Part of her was fearful to go and find him. That ever present sliver of doubt was growing. But at least she had someplace to stay that was safe. A small smile crept along her features as she nestled into the nook she had chosen to sleep in.
The orange mare that had promised to help her was so kind for giving her a place of refuge. Even if the others around were a little… strange. Al cracked her eyes open to glance around. Something about the others made her uneasy. But she wouldn’t dare say something! That would be rude. And Lux Flamma had been so gracious. Not to mention excited to have Al come join her little herd.
Or what she assumed was her herd? Al had never actually gotten around to asking. Just having a place with other horses around was good enough for her. Movement under her wing drew her gaze down. Shalira was curled up beside her, large ears constantly on the alert. Why didn’t her familiar companion appreciate the assistance of the half-suti mare? The fox had tried desperately to get Al to reconsider, but her reasoning had just been so silly! Lux had simply been trying to help them. Why would there be any other reasons? Wouldn’t she have said as much if there were other motives?
Shifting herself slightly, Al curled more comfortably with her familiar, eyes starting to drift close again. Shalira was just being overprotective like usual. There was nothing to fear! So there were a few others here that kept watching her strangely. And another couple that gave her pitiful looks. There had just been the fire. They all probably felt lost. Lux really was an amazing mare, giving them all sanctuary and protection. Alarion wished there were more creatures like the half-suti in the world. Like her father.
Sighing heavily and covering herself and Shalira with her wings like a blanket, Al made her mind up. They would stay with Lux for a few days, helping the mare however they could to repay her kindness. Then they would need to start seeking out her father again. Or at least trying to send a message to him, letting him know she was alive. The fires hadn’t managed to get her! Strange how the fire could ignite such fear and fascination in its brutality. Yet wasn’t the desert just as brutal? And she was beginning to understand why her father loved it so much. Maybe she would head that way first? See if he was in one of the small merchant herds there. Yes. That was the perfect course of action. Once she had stayed a respectful amount of time here with Lux, she would head for the desert. With her plan of action determined, Al finally began to drift asleep, unaware of the brooding eyes that watched over her.
