((I am assuming this is backdated a bit))

Things were still new. There was a lot to learn both physically, mentally, and politically being a part of this new faction she had been embraced in. As a whole though, Violane was finding it to her liking. These people were people she could, for the most part, feel like herself around. Mind, she was still in the market to meet more people and form some sort of relationships, but so far, all was good. So, when General Cinnabar had indicated it was time for her to get some training in, Violane was more than ready to jump in. After all, the sooner she learned the ropes the sooner she could begin to work her way up the ladder.

Being summoned by her General was an interesting experience, but certainly convenient; For General Cinnabar anyway. Still, Violane could appreciate the power that held for newbies and the fact that they couldn't ever truly run away.

"Evening, General." The room she was summoned to looked like it may have been a living quarters at one point but had been converted to a training room of sorts. "This your personal gym?" She questioned as she eyed some of the training equipment. She had to admit, having a personal training area sounded like a sweet deal. Mind, she had never been one for physical exercise outside of whatever scuffles she had gotten into, but maybe with something like this she'd actually want to work out more?

Yea, let me squeeze that in my busy schedule. She mused. After all, with her new dual life, school looming ahead, and the need to practice her violin religiously, time was very sparse.

Reaching out and plucking someone out of empty air was something of a novel experience. One of the powers her rank afforded her, but not something she had made a lot of use of. At least, before she had subordinates of her own that needed hauling about. It was easier than going to get them herself, which would require at least two teleportations. Strong as she was, Cin could not teleport at will as the Sovereigns could, to her eternal disappointment. It made life in the Citadel just a bit inconvenient at times.

The girl that appeared before her was pale haired and dark skinned, her uniform dark greys with a pleasing edge of dark red. A flattering touch, considering who her general was and her own color scheme. It was a far better match than the soft pinks her first lieutenant had worn.

"Hello, Violane." She said as she dropped the hand she'd lifted for the summoning. Cin reached up to shrug her heavy coat from her bare shoulders and toss it over one of the sparse metal folding chairs in a rattle of chains. She swung her arms around her as she paced to the center of the room, loosening her arms and shoulders as muscle rippled under her skin. Her tail swung lazily, lacking the usual flick it got when she was irritated.

"Gym, training room, whatever you want to call it." She turned about to face her lieutenant, her hands settling on her hips. "My constant energy signature is always a risk when I'm in the city, as is yours when you're powered up. Its better to have a safe, controlled environment to work in when I'm doing maintenance or basic training. We'll do trips into the city in the future to find opponents for you and do our work, and into the Rift at some point to get you acquainted with the youma that supplement our forces."

The room was mostly open space, the floor covered with foam mats to cushion the stone floor. There was some weights against a wall, a punching bag and an actual human-shaped training dummy, all showing signs of being well used. A trash-find table held bottles of water and a couple of salvaged towels as it stood beside the pair of folding chairs, another few against the wall. Over all, the place spoke of function and utility prized over looks or even price point.

Cin waved a hand, beckoning her lieutenant closer.

"What sort of training have you had in anything combat related? Martial arts? Any kinds of weapons?"

Violane watched as Cinnabar slipped the long coat from her shoulders to free up her movement. For Violane to say she wasn't interested in the woman's physical appearance would be an outright lie. The young woman was all for giving credit where credit was due, and really, even with her extra appendage, horns, and scaled appearance, Cinnabar was very becoming. Maybe it was the exotic look or perhaps it was the sheer confidence the other woman exuded, but Violane did not avert her eyes in apology as she took in her General.

"Right, so here is the best place for training purposes." She could get that. It was a safe zone for them. No need to worry about anyone coming in to wreck your s**t while being focuses on training.

Really, this was a good first step. "Besides just some pesky fights I've gotten into I've got no training what-so-ever." She shrugged casually. "I can't say it's ever been anything my parents were ever interested in me learning about." Then again, she had never really been their number one either so asking for any sort of lessons outside of her usual ones would probably have been too much.

"Anything I know is self taught. I tend to not pick fights if there's any doubt in my mind that I may loose." She wasn't one to put her neck out. If the odds weren't in her favor, ******** that.

"The only thing I am good at is brawls, sex, and playing the violin. All could be weapons in some sense, I suppose."

The General grimaced as she looked her lieutenant over, though her gaze wasn't lecherous in return. Focused in on the job at hand, there was not time to let thoughts like that intruded.

Violin? s**t. That meant focus would have to be away from hands as the main means of offense and defense, and that was not Cin's forte, especially now that her fingers sported razor blades. Still, there were a lot of moves in Krav Maga that didn't necessarily put the hands in harms way.

"In that case, we're going to make your focus your legs. Unless you want to risk doing something that ruins your ability to play, you're going to use your legs and feet to attack and defend when possible." Cin said as she waved a hand at them. "If you're used to punching things, we're going to have to unlearn some habits and start up new ones. Now, stand across from me and mimic my stance."

She dropped into something that looked defensive, fists between her face and her opponent while her boots spaced wide. For all that her body suit was revealing, it also gave her full range of movement, which meant nothing to hold her back.

"This style was developed to be extremely efficient and brutal, with a focus on real world fighting and self defense. It's about moves that are both offensive and defensive and it's aggressive. It's not for everyone, but it gets the job done and in this war, that's all that matters." She said. "Put aside morals or thoughts of mercy. Anything is 'fair', if it gets you to your goal. Neutralize your opponent, defend yourself and your team mates, and move on. Be aware of your surroundings even as you fight, because there is always a chance someone could rush in from the side or behind to join the fight. Now. This how you block a basic punch..."

Training began in earnest as soon as Violane was in position and Cinnabar was a demanding trainer. Moves were demonstrated and then repeated over and over until she could perform them to the general's standards. Most of it was defensive, at first... how to react to various situations from punches to kicks, to holds. Hit and disengage was emphasized. Don't get tangled up with someone. You leave yourself vulnerable. Hit and retreat to your stance. Look for escape routes, weapons and other opponents. She was emphatic that fights be finished as quickly as possible, aiming for vulnerable parts of the body.

It wasn't until Violane was looking winded that she called a break. She paced to the water bottles and lobbed one underhanded at her lieutenant.

"It's a good start. You're going to need to practice this stuff on your own too. Do it a hundred times, two hundred, until your muscles remember it without your mind chiming in." She said as she twisted her cap open and lifted it to her mouth.

Fighting and avoiding using her hands? Well that certainly was a new one for Violane. Everything she’d done so far was very punchy, grabby, and...well, whatever else she could utilize against someone. If there was one thing that she appreciated out of what Cin was saying, was the fact that anything goes as long as it reached the desired outcome. That was something Violane could understand and fully intended to run with.

Still, how much time and work was this going to take? Apparently a lot, by her General’s standards. Damn. More things to take up what little time I have for myself. Quickly, Violane could see her social time whittling away to nothing. If it wasn’t school work, violin practice, and now fighting practice she was sure something else would pop up.

Oh wait, don’t forget about those patrols. Great.

Still, Violane wasn’t opposed to hard work. She wanted to prove herself to those who said she’d become nothing. So, if this is what it would all take, so be it. There was no reason she had to be happy about it though.

Like an apt student, Violane focused in on what she was being taught. She studied Cin’s stance, utilized what she was told, took the hard knocks as they came and tried to learn from them. But, damn if it wasn’t hard to not want to use her hands. Violin was her life, well...her ‘normal’ life and she really had no interest in sacrificing that. So, this was all going to be one damn hell lesson to learn. By the time Cin had finally pulled away, Violane could feel the sweat soaking her uniform and her breathing was far from easy.

“It’s so hard.” She said between breaths. “Not using my hands like I am use to.” She joined Cin in getting a drink. The liquid quenched her thirst and cooled her down some in the process. Wiping the back of her hand across her mouth to catch a droplet that dared to drip from her lips, she twisted the cap back onto the bottle.

“Are fights a normal thing?” She questioned curiously. She didn’t care either way. “Is it something I can expect to deal with often, that is?”

A shrug met the almost-whine, and while it wasn't disgusted or deprecating, it wasn't terribly sympathetic either.

"Nothing that's worth anything is easy to do, Violane." She said as she pressed a hand towel to her face, wiping the sweat from her face. She downed half the water bottle in a few large gulps and it seemed to re-energize her. "But by all means. We can have you fighting with your fists and when you break a few fingers, you just won't be able to play any more. No skin off my nose."

A chuckle followed her as she closed up her bottle, putting it and the towel back on the table she'd gotten them from. The question prompted raised eyebrows and there was a small smirk as she turned back.

"You're part of a war now, Sweetheart. What do you think? Any time you're out in the city while powered, there is a chance an enemy will sense your power signature and hunt you down. Some of them won't wait to talk and they'll hit you hard. Which brings up something else we'll need to practice... sensing auras. With some practice, you can sense enemies and friends, and you can tell what rank they are, what faction they are from. Its ******** useful and if you learn it early, you'll have a step up on other people your rank."

She waved a hand to beckon the girl closer again, falling into the defensive stance again.

"Lets run through everything again. I want to see what you remember."

Broken fingers were not something she wanted to deal with, for multiple reason, the foremost being the outcome that Cinnabar mentioned. The last thing she wanted was to loose one of the few things that brought her joy in life and give her parents another reason to force their control over her. Without the ability to play they'd certainly step in and push her towards something she had no interest in. She never could make them proud of her for just being her. It was always on their terms.

That train of thought was going to lead her into a dark corner of her mind though and she quickly switched it off. There were more pressing matters at hand, like this Auras stuff and the fact that Cinnabar looked ready for round 2.

Great.

She stepped forward when beckoned and lowered into her stance. Hands rose up as a means to balance herself as she ran through the techniques and moves that her General had taught her. It certainly wasn't perfect, far from, but the rough shape of it was there. For the most part though, she remember the majority that they had originally gone through.

When their round two bout was over, Violane was breathing heavily once again, sweat running from her brow. She wasn't use to this sort of physical activity, not for such a long period. She turned to grab her water, draining another large portion of it before turning back the General. "So, these Aura things. How does it work?"

Cinnabar might have looked well worked by the time she finished off the second half of her bottle, but her energy seemed boundless. The exercise just seemed to loosen her muscles and make her move with ease, taking on a slink that was something not-quite human. She turned as she tossed the bottle into a bin for that purpose and considered, her lieutenant. Finally she shrugged.

It wasn’t going to be that intensive. They could at least make a start on it.

“Its not something I can really describe in a way that someone who’s never done it would understand, but if its helpful… its like… feeling heat.” She said as she lifted a hand, showing Violane her palm as she spread her fingers. “You can feel where it’s coming from, and how strong it is… and it feels different depending on the source. Its not a physical thing though… and you won’t be able to do it when you’re powered down.”

Stepping close, she took hold of the smaller woman’s elbow and steered her towards the center of the room, settling her in one spot.

“Close your eyes and… open yourself up. Try to feel... that’s the closest I can describe it. I have a strong signature, as a general. In a room like this, it shouldn’t be hard. I’m going to move around… track it. When you think you’ve got me, point. I’ll let you know if you’re right. Got it?” She backed away slowly, her tail swinging behind her, and spread her arms in invitation. “Everyone sort of has to figure it out for themselves, but we’ll try to make this easy on you for the start. I’ll take you out later to feel some of the other power signatures out there, so you can learn the differences.”

[Violane was tired. She hadn't actually expected her question to turn into a training exercise. She had just been hoping for a good 'ol explanation of what it was and that was it, but it seemed her General was ready to dive right in. Great. Well, she had opened her big mouth, she'd have to deal with it.

And so she let Cinnabar lead her to the center of the room. She listened carefully to the instructions and attempt at explaining what it was she was suppose to find...er...feel. Whatever. "Alright, then." She affirmed she got the instructions before closing her eyes.

She felt absolutely silly as she attempted to 'feel' her General. It wasn't something that felt natural to do and at first, she found herself trying to listen for Cinnabar, but was having practically no luck. Out of frustration she pointed in a random direction that she had thought she had heard the General but was an affirmed negative.

Heat. Like feeling heat.

She heaved a sigh, trying to relinquish all the pent up frustrations and weariness. She needed to focus. Out of habit, she let herself relax as if she were preparing for a performance. There was always an over stimulation when waiting to go out on stage with her violin. Maybe that would help her?

Finger twitched, and brows furrowed when she thought she had felt something. She turned her head in the direction, but didn't point yet. She wanted to be sure this time.

There! Yes! Was that it? It had to be. Like a welcoming darkness.

Violane lifted her hand and pointed in the direction she thought her General was in before opening her eyes to check for herself.

It was fairly obvious Violane found the continued training taxing and the concept of feeling a signature preposterous. Cinnabar didn’t blame her. If you grew up disillusioned with magic, it was hard to accept the concept that it might be real when someone tried to convince you of it. She fully expected the disbelief, but at least Violane was game to try. There wasn’t much more you could ask from a new recruit, in her mind.

The half youma smirked as she stalked around the edges of the room, trying to keep her heeled boots from making noise. When that proved harder than she liked on stone floors, she simply teleported herself to the other side of the room and tried again, red-black eyes trained on her lieutenant. Frustration was evident when a hand was wildly flung out… in the wrong direction. Cin clucked her tongue.

“Stop guessing, and stop trying to listen for me. Shut it down; sight, hearing… they’re in the way. Feel it. Like sunlight on your skin. Look for something different than everything else and follow it.” She said as she teleported again, landing down the wall from where she had been. She circled slowly again, watching the emotions chase themselves over Violane’s face. She drew in a deep breath and then seemed to… relax, perking up Cin’s interest.

Suddenly a hand swung up and the general grinned as she froze in place, staring down the length of her arm as purple eyes opened.

“Good job.” She hummed as she straightened up, a hand landing on her hip. “I think that’s enough for today, huh? I’ll take you home to rest. Just make sure you stretch as you cool down, or its going to hurt like hell tomorrow.”

She waved for the lieutenant to follow her and headed to the table for her coat, saving a little energy by not simply summoning it back onto her body.

Her gaze found her General immediately upon opening her eyes. Pleased to find herself pointing directly at Cinnabar. A self satisfying grin spread across her face before she dropped her arm and sighed, leaning back on her hands from her position on the floor. "That was...very strange and odd." In fact, she wasn't sure hoe quickly she could do it again despite having a vague sense of what she should be looking for now.

It seemed Cinnabar was content with the progress Violane had made for the day though. At the offer of going home, the young woman practically leapt to her feet. She wanted to curl up in bed for some decent sleep considering she had s**t to get done and needed to be somewhat alert to do it. "Right. Stretching." She made mental note to do that, though knowing Violane, she wouldn't dedicate too much time to the procedure. She counted on her youth to allow her to do things that maybe her older General couldn't. After all, she'd never felt too terribly sore after a scuffle either. Not unless she got her a** handed to her on a silver platter that was.

But, she'd humor Cinn to a point. A little stretching wouldn't hurt. It just...wouldn't take long.

Violane followed Cinnabar as the woman retrieved her coat and awaited eagerly to be transported back home. "It'll be terribly useful when I can go home myself." She remarked as she swiped sweaty hair from her face in annoyance.

Cinnabar grinned as she shrugged into her coat with a rattle, amused by the eagerness of her Lieutenant now that the work out was over. She pulled her hair out of her coat and flicked it free before she reached to settle a heavy hand on the young woman's shoulder.

She caught the dismissive tone, but let it pass without comment. It was a typical tone from people who didn't train seriously. Warm ups and cool downs were important, but she'd figure that out on her own when she finally did it and realized how much it improved things.

"Work hard and you'll get there. They like to promote people who do a good job." She said before she ripped the pair of them out of reality. They disappeared from the training room, leaving it silent and empty in the strange light of the Citadel.
