Baba was standing over her cauldron and taking in the fragrance of the bubbling brew. The pot was full and she was thinking about the last time she had a guest. "I wonder if someone will stop by for dinner.." she said to herself. She normally had her spitorog to talk to and eat meals with, but Hemlock had been missing for a month. If he had finally 'croaked' it might be time to look for a new familiar. She didn't have the time to tame another, so she would probably have to buy one. Baba kicked a pile of soot onto the fire to reduce intensity of the flames. She pushed out one of the coals and dropped it into a little metal cup. She gathered some dried herbs and supplies from the shelf and went outside.
The snow was not as deep as it was a few weeks ago. The sun had been adding some much needed warmth to the wintry landscape. With some of the snow melted, things could be seen poking through the yard. Bones, posts, and other curious structures could start to be identified. Baba had remembered her mother was busiest this time of year. The melt made it easier for people to access the hut. This was why it was so important to gather and resupply the stockpile of potions, charms, and medicines in the earlier months.
Baba walked the perimeter of the fence and every ten feet she attached an incense to a post and lit it. By the time she ran out of supplies there were twenty of these smoking fragrant totems. The smoke carried on the wind worked like a signal or a lure to the people in the area. It let the locals know Baba was open for business, and all they had to do was follow their nose to find her. It also doubled as a way to cover up the smell of death that plagued the property. Countess animals were buried in the yard, and many still unburied and frozen in the snow. Heras Box Hope you feel better soon!

After speaking to several locals about this Baba witch he had been pointed in the right direction. Of course that was after several curses and prayers made to Chi. Huyana sighed and shook his head but walked onward. He didn't have to go too far before he smelled the perfume in the air.
A tingle went down his spine as he had to pause for a second or two. If his brother was sending him to his death then he would haunt the wretch for the rest of his life. After taking a deep breath Huy continued on. If he could hurry up and get this fertility potion then he could return to Eirlys. Hopefully in time to see his child born.
As he rounded a gathering of snow topped trees he saw the house. As well as the smoke that rose up from the perimeter. Well at least that part was true, he thought to himself. Made it easier to know that he was at the right place. Steeling himself for what was to come he straightened his shoulders and took a deep breath. Now he just needed to stick to the plan. Be firm. Get what he wanted. And leave. Hopefully with no curse or hex to follow him home. With a small nod of his head he walked to the fence, his eyes landing on the bones, for a moment he thought of simply leaving and getting his brother a fake. Knowing that wouldn't work he forced his eyes away from the bones and called out, "Baba?"

Baba was behind the house gathering some logs. After she had an armful she paused to shift her weight and thought she heard something. "Is that a someone I hear? Perhaps my prince has finally come to rescue me from this temple of death?" She mused as she walked around to the front of the house to identify a possible visitor. Her amused expression changed to disappointment when she saw the villager on the perimeter. "Oh look, mother's tactics prove effective. Now I am summoned to save their dying cattle." she grumbled to herself. She hoped her first customer of the season wouldn't be a complete bore; she would just have to wait and see.
"You there!" she shouted "You call me by name, come and tell me yours." She made a gesture with her head as a signal for him to approach. She then carried the logs in the house and dropped them on the floor. She returned to the doorway and crossed her arms as she awaited him to approach.

When he saw the wild haired woman come from around the house he was instantly thinking that she had been back there slaughtering something. However, he couldn't turn tail and run away. That wouldn't help his brother. So he took a deep breath and did as she told him. Huyana got closer, and while the yard was more than frightening he wasn't so sure he wanted to go inside. What if it was worse?
So he stopped at the doorway and cleared his throat as she stood before him. "My name is Huyana Zaltana." With the introduction out of the way he didn't waste any time in letting her know what it was he was there for. "I was told that you can make a fertility potion so that is why I'm here." At this point he didn't care if the witch thought he was the one that needed it. His man pride would simply have to take a back seat on this ride. Staying longer than was needed didn't seem like a good idea.

With her arms still crossed, Baba looked the man up and down. She had a quizzical look on her face. "What would ye need one of those for? It seems obvious to me that you are quite fertile." She said as she raised her tangled brow. She leaned forward and squinted her eyes at him as if she was deciphering an ancient text.
"Say I have a fertility potion," she mused, "what would you offer in return."
Baba liked this part of the barter game. This question often revealed much about the type of person they were. A smile almost curled her lip as she pressed her shoulder into the doorway.

He let it slide over him that Baba had just complimented his manhood. No point in letting his pride show at that, the witch might call him cocky. And then the bartering came up. Huyana was good at that. So he smiled at the woman as she leaned in her doorway. "I can give you furs or herbs." Thankfully he had had the foresight to gain a lot of herbs for his trip south, while he intended to sell them he was willing to lose a bit of coin in order to help his brother.
"If need be I can throw in some fresh fruit." That was his starting offer. For now he would keep the other valuables to himself unless he really needed to bring them out. He had jewelry and the like in his caravan that he could use.

Baba rolled her eyes dramatically. Did he really think she wanted his animal skins and lettuce? The fruit was mildly tempting but not enough on its own. She let out a long sigh to express her disdain.
"Is that all a new life is worth to you? A child worth only a few pelts and some fruit wont be healthy enough to make it through winter."
She needed Huyana Zaltana to realize that her trade was more than just an exchange of items, or monetary goods. She was not the every day farmers market and she would ask more of her clients than anyone else. She let them decide what her goods were worth to them. It was only fair that the potency of the item reflect the need of the client.

So his offer was not enough huh? Huyana smiled at her in a charming manner. "Is not the joy of knowing you helped a new life come to be enough for you?" He had to try.
Though, he had enough common sense to bring some trinkets with him. But he still wanted to keep those for later. Rocking back on his heels he gave a thoughtful expression. "Fruit and a roati familiar perhaps?" Huy wanted to get a feel for what this woman had in mind. Of course it only worked if she countered his offer or even said that she was interested in one of of the things he listed.

Her twisted brow furrowed and Baba examined his charming smile suspiciously. "New life is a powerful thing, as powerful as death. I do not aid these forces for the sake of Joy" her voice was cold and un-amused. She found his attempt to sway her insulting. If he thought fruit and a new familiar would be enough to-! Her train of thought paused. A familiar, she was needing one. Her expression softened as she contemplated the items offered.
"I am considering." she said slowly, "I will need to see the health of the roati before I can make you an offer."

Clearly this woman was not sentimental. Not that Huyana really expected her to be, the bone yard basically attested to that. However, when her tone seemed to change and she mentioned the Roati he gave a nod of his head. "Fair enough." The young man brought his fingers to his lips and whistled. With a happy bleat the familiar came prancing out of the trees to go to Huy's side.
He had been told to acquire something to sacrifice but he was hoping this adorable thing wouldn't be killed. Who could hate such a cute little Roati enough to harm it? On the plus side, it did have a lot of black coloring. Though it was broken up by lines of white. "He's perfectly healthy and rather hyper." His point proven by the fact that the little beast couldn't keep still. The Roati was busy hopping in the snow and baa-ing.
