Dyakida relaxed in the warmth of the beach. The sun struck her skin in a delicious way, caressing it with a feeling of healthful comfort. Of course, she had put on the protective oils that her hosts had cautioned her to use. The sun could burn her, she'd been told. She was, unfortunately, familiar with burns, and they were not pleasant. But, indeed, how badly could the sun burn? She didn't think it was as bad as she was told, but the earnestness in their voices told her that, to assuage their worries, she should put it on herself. And, honestly, it wasn't that bad.
So she lay there, relaxing, listening to the water crash noisily against the rocks and swish against the soft sand. She would go for a swim later, but for now she stretched lazily, subsumed by warmth. She became aware of something touching her leg, something different. Before she could write it off as nothing, however, it moved. It scurried nimbly along her skin, making her twitch and sit up, startled.
”What...?” she reached down to brush off... whatever it was... only to meet something textured and wet and very tenacious. It moved again, dodging her questing hands. ”What is this?!” she demanded, as... whatever it was... scurried around her person. ”Gah!?” she yelped, half standing, as it took refuge under her top. ”Roots and stone!” she cursed, at the sudden slimy coolness of it, ”Get off of me!”

After what might as well have been an eternity, the small hybrid group made it out of Oba and into Matori. If Dravi could say one thing for certain, it was that at very least, Khalel was pleased with their progress. His lover dear practically glowed, and he had to admit to being quite thrilled to see her in such a way. For the most part, the beach nation suited them quite well. Except for one part. Despite raising a Matori-born critter for much of his life, the wildlife seemed to be taking rather poorly to Skadravi's attempts to mingle with and befriend it.
"C'mon, you dumb fish," he griped as he hovered in the shallows of the oceanfront, knife in hand. "If you stay still for just a moment, I can catch you and eat you, and we'll be one. Won't that be nice?"
The commentary did not make the small silvery fish any more receptive to his plight, and they continued to dart out of range for all the splashing, diving, and water-stabbing he did.
No good. Go figure.
With a sigh, the hybrid boy dragged himself from the water. Maybe there was something a little more land-based he could wrangle with some success. The thought occurred to him at the same time as a surprised yelp sounded from not especially far away, and Dravi turned to see a lone Alkidike woman scrambling to a stand and shouting at something unseen to 'get off of her.' Intriguing.
He approached devoid of caution, and from a short distance could actually see what was ailing the stranger. He blinked, and with the same lack of forethought that usually graced his person, reached to pluck a slimy writhing tail from the Alkidike's stomach. Unsurprisingly, the rest of the animal was still attached, and Dravi tugged it free of her top while tossing confused glares between the slimy Matori creature and the Alkidike female. he could've asked many things, and probably should have, but in the moment, only one question seemed pertinent.
"So... Are you gonna eat this?"

Too jostled and unsettled by the thing that was so rudely crawling on her, Dyakida couldn't sense the approach of someone new... until they touched her. ”Gah!” she scrabbled at the sensation, belatedly sensing that there was, indeed, something big in front of her. She pushed at it. ”Get away!” she threatened. She hadn't brought her dagger on the beach because she'd been told it was safe, and had experienced it as safe, and so, surely, it was safe. But right at that moment, she wished she had it in hand. ”Get away from...”Wait, where was the slimy thing? She waited a breathless moment, and realized that it was not moving. In fact, it was no longer on her at all. She waited another moment, just to be sure. His question confirmed that. ”What... No! Is it even...” her lip curled in disgust, ”Is it even edible?!” Something that wiggly and slimy and leg-y... ergh. Of course, she ate cooked bugs and grubs and other things, but those were different. Completely and totally different. ”What is it?” she asked in haughty indignation, touching her top to make sure it wasn't displaced in any way, ”And who are you?!”(442/1000)

The creature squirmed in his grasp, struggling to burrow its blunt, toothless mouth into Dravi's hand in an attempt to force him to release it's tail and give it freedom. The sensation was a peculiar, if not painful one, and Skadravi let out a half-cough, half-laugh at the almost ticklish feeling, before holding the thing more securely in both hands. Despite continued attempts to free itself, he was able to get a more proper look at it.
It was kind of cute, in the same amphibian-like way his bushi was, even if it was small and slimy. And he deduced that he had no idea what it was or if he could eat it. "It surely must be," Skadravi reasoned as he glanced back to the still-flustered female. "I think most things are, even if just a piece of it is."
Hopefully the woman would get a hold of herself and calm down in a moment or two. After all, it was just a little critter, whatever it was. Probably not capable of hurting anyone.
"I dunno what this thing is, really," Skadravi admitted with a shrug. "But it looks like a snack to me. Or, well... Hm. Either a snack, or poisonous... Poisonous things are brightly colored, aren't they? It is pretty bright..." He held it up to her face. "What do you think? You're from the jungle, you must know-" Dravi's eyes narrowed as his yellow gaze found the Alkidike's misty-white bug eyes. Peculiar. He'd been in Jauhar before. He'd never seen an Alk with eyes like that!
"Maybe it did do something to you, huh?" He questioned, leaning nearer to her face. "Y'don't quite look right. Feel okay?"

She tugged her top down, ensuring that her physical modesty (such as it was in Alkidike terms) was maintained. The male probably had a point – you could eat just about anything if you knew how – but that wasn't the real question here. In fact, he hadn't answered any of her questions, which was infuriating. ”They typically are.” she said curtly. Her nose crinkled as a wierdly cool, earthy smell appeared A tentative hand revealed that... yes. He'd just shoved whatever it was at her. ”I have no idea.” she said, perhaps a little too harshly. Goddess's leaves, she'd really needed that rest. She only got snippy like this after a nap when she'd really needed it. That meant that this vacation was very likely a good idea... slimy scurrying things aside. ”Wait, what?” Dyakida paled. She was all too familiar with topical poisons and what they could do. ”What? What do you see? Did it do something? Is there...” she touched her leg, where the thing had first crawled onto her. ”Is there a mark here, or anywhere?” Already, she was starting to wonder if she needed to jump into the nearby ocean and scrub herself down – modesty be damned to the shore, one did not mess with poison. Well, if it was poisonous, he certainly didn't want to be holding it, and the small creature was just so desperate for freedom, anyway. Quite unceremoniously, Dravi dropped it to the ground, and the small amphibian scuttled off through the sand to meet with a small cluster of other colorful, aquatic specimens. The hybrid boy squinted after them. "Ah, they're all like that, hm...?"
Maybe that was irrelevant at the moment. For now, this Alkidike woman really could be in trouble. He bent double, scoping the high spot on her leg where she touched. "Nnno, it looks all good down here," Dravi decided at length. Or as normal as he expected any Alkidike skin to look.
With that said, he glanced at his own hands. He'd held the thing. If it was poisonous, it should affect him too. Or maybe it wouldn't. He did have Matori blood, so maybe that offered some form of immunity. Or more than any jungle bug-woman would have, anyway. "I think I'm okay too, if you were wondering. But, ahhh-" His gaze fell back to her face. "It's your eyes I'm worried about. That's what looks off to me. How long was that thing on you? Long enough to do that? Do I look normal?"

Oh good. She trusted his assessment of her skin. Since that area didn't feel odd to the touch and wasn't itching so there was a good chance that, well, nothing had happened. “Is it only my eyes?” she asked, a little flatly, “If they are merely pale and clouded, then there is nothing to worry about. That was already done. Consequently, I really wouldn't know if you looked normal or not.” Unidentified creature crisis out of the way, she crossed her arms over her chest. “And you didn't answer my question. Who are you?” (748/1000)

Well, her eyes did look peculiar. It wasn't as if he could be blamed for thinking that weird little fish nugget had done something that could've made that happen. Skadravi was still new to Matori, after all. He wasn't yet familiar with all the beasties' capabilities. Regardless, if she already knew her eyes were strange, that meant they weren't worth worrying over.
"Ahhh..." He straightened once more, and crossed his arms over his chest. "So you can't see, huh? That's pretty unfortunate..." Really unfortunate, if he was being honest. How could you even enjoy life if you couldn't see? How could an Alkidike be a warrior if she was blind? Did her people hate her? How could they not? Did she hate herself? Not that Dravi knew much about it, but he suspected he wouldn't be especially pleased if it was him in that situation. He hummed softly. "Hey, are you even allowed out on your own? How did you get here?"
But right. She'd asked her own question. He was still skeptical about sharing any information with this strange woman. It wasn't as if she'd offered the same courtesy, but since she'd asked twice and he'd had his face fairly close to her thighs when she had, maybe that merited an answer. "Name's Dravi. I'm not from around these parts. Afraid I'm probably not much help with your lizard problem 'cause of that."

"Yes. It is unfortunate." she agreed snidely. She tood a deep, hopefully quiet breath so as not to snap at him any more. Slimy small creatures aside, she needed to be diplomatic, especially since he could see the beasts. "Yes. I can be out on my own." she said a little imperiously, glowering in his general direction, "I can take care of myself." Lizard incident aside and... oh, mother's roots, who was she kidding? "My gracious hosts live nearby and said that this beach was safe and very nice to relax on. They are merely busy at the moment." She added. "I-I'm sure they will be back soon." There. If he meant her harm, she had effectively told him that she wasn't alone. Truth was, she wasn't sure how soon they would be back... But if needed she did have her knife. "Dravi... Dyakida. That is my name." Not around these parts? Hmm. Well. "I think you've helped enough. Thank you." she said, a little forcefully, hoping he would go away now that the lizard thing was resolved... Was it just him, or did her tone seem a little more... clipped than it had previously? He hadn't been trying to be rude (though in retrospect, he supposed he could understand how it might have come off as such), but Skadravi was genuinely curious of the situation. It wasn't something he'd ever had the opportunity to understand. And it sounded quite terrifying to him. Terrifying and impossible. He wouldn't be able to function without his eyes. Surely, surely that type of handicap was burdensome...
"Really?" He asked curiously after her assertions that she could 'take care of herself.' "How do you manage?" But she wasn't an Earthling. Dravi peered into her whited out bug eyes. How well could Alkidike see to begin with? Maybe blindness wasn't such a curse for him. "Is it your antenna? Do they help? Can I touch-"
He didn't make it farther than that. It sounded like the Alkidike woman, Dyakida, as she was called, had had quite enough of him. Skadravi didn't claim to be the smartest, but he knew a dismissal when he heard one. Still, leaving her alone gave him pause. "Oh, ah, I get it, but, well, are you sure you don't want me to stick around until your friends- er, hosts come back for you?"

Dyakida had been about to tell him to please not touch thank you very much in no uncertain terms, and possibly try to get at her dagger, when he appeared to get the picture. She hesitated, realizing that maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea to be alone on the beach with animals about. Then again, she still wasn't sure if he would cause her harm. "... I'll be fine, thank you." she said, thinking strongly about making her way back to the hut and just... relaxing there. Where she would be safer, presumably. Then again, was she sure of the direction? Had she gotten turned around? She could hear the ocean, and presumably that meant that the village was in the opposite direction and... No, she would be fine. "Thank you again for helping me before." she said, backing away carefully, "And for the offer, but I will be fine.Little did she know that, in her bag, was a little scaly, slimy stowaway...
