This new place was going to take some getting used to. Tara had finished most of her unpacking into her new room--a dorm room. She'd gotten some unpleasant college days flashbacks (which really weren't that far behind her...) but the rest of her time here..? Had been rather... well. A blur. She'd started learning how to fight. Like. More than just kickboxing and basic concepts you toss around with people in the gym. Tara'd been taking her free time to explore the grounds, her attention riveted on the forest. Not venturing in too far, mind you. Just... well. It was right next to the Artemis dorms. It required investigating.

It was amazing as it was to be in such a place... Tara's head was still spinning from it all. Her cheeks ached from smiling so much, trying to keep up a show of chipper enthusiasm. She was enthusiastic to learn... so many new things. But jeeze. It took a toll after a bit.

Camera hanging from her neck, she snapped a few shots of the grounds, slowly making her way through. Resting her sore muscles after another round in the gym--that was definitely something she liked about the Prytaneum. The gym. Easy access and she had no excuse to not spend her time there.

But now as her legs stretched, she was finding herself by another part of the grounds. The studio. She really did need to see if they had any rooms there for developing photos... Really, had figured that's what she'd occupy herself with for the moment, little mini-quest. Sounds caught her attention though. Lured her into the building, she followed the notes--guitar, she was pretty sure. Was good, whoever was playing. Nervous about intruding, but immensely curious who was playing the melody, she peeked her head around the doorframe of one of the rooms--the only occupied one she'd seen with the door ajar.

There was a grin on her face as she listened, sneaker tapping lightly on the floor in time with the guitarist's work. Music wasn't her area of expertise, beyond the basic I generally know the kinds of music on my Pandora and Spotify lists. Judging by how the guy was playing though, she was guessing he was a bit more knowledgeable on the subject than that.

It had taken some doing, but Rob had finally been able to land a room at the Studios as practice space. He didn't care at this point that it wasn't soundproofed; he liked the cinderblock and cement acoustics better than the soundproofed rooms down in the basement. It was like playing on the streets or down in the BART tunnels, like he was used to back in San Francisco. He missed it, but he didn't -- he had a new life here, and new opportunities. A new reason for being.

His fingers moved effortlessly over the guitar's fretboard, idly playing one of his preferred English folk tunes as he allowed his mind to wander. He had so much to think about. He'd settled into his room in the Dionysus dorms and promptly celebrated with a bottle of wine from the amazing wine cooler, practiced with the greatsword enough that he wouldn't hurt himself should it come down to fighting, started working out in the Gym and decided he liked it (since he wasn't getting his exercise flailing out punk music any longer), and he'd talked with Max about what he wanted to accomplish here. That was a big one. He thought he wanted to put his band back together, but then he mentioned his love of beer and idle thoughts of brewing his own, and something pinged in his head. Somehow that just felt right, like it was what he was supposed to be doing.

Could he do it, though? Could he set himself apart enough from the thousands of other craft brewers out there to make a name for himself? Nevermind make something that was drinkable and tasty?

Rob was contemplating this when he finally noticed a head poking in through the open door out of the corner of his eye. Placing his palm on the strings of the guitar to stop them from ringing, he turned his attention to the doorway. "Hallo!" he smiled. "I'm sorry, am I disturbing you? I can close the door if you like…"

A little touch of pink went to her cheeks when the musician took notice of her intrusion, and she stepped out from somewhat hiding behind the doorframe. Giving a small wave, she smiled, shaking her head. "No, not at all! I'm the one who needs to apologize for interrupting." She motioned towards the direction down the hall she'd come from. "I was just kinda wandering around the area and heard you playing, so I stopped in to see. It was really good!"

Was that too generic to say? She shifted a bit where she should, forcing her smile to stay in place. She wasn't entirely over her awkward social anxiety days, but few things could put aside that horrible moment of wondering if you said something stupid. "That tune sounded kinda familiar... what was it? Or did you base it off anything, if it was original?" Her brow furrowed a bit, unsure if she was insulting him if it was original and not based on anything else... Her hands rested on her camera, nails clicking against it as she resisted fidgeting. Oh my god, Tara. He wasn't going to bite. At least, he didn't look the type. She noted the dreads and the piercing. Looked like a punk she'd sometimes see around campus, but from the way he spoke, didn't give her a better to avoid vibe.

Plus like. British accent. She really wasn't expecting that one.

"No need to apologize, I was just noodlin' about." Rob studied the woman who stood in the doorway. Small but curvy, with huge blue eyes and a camera slung around her neck, she looked about as harmless as a kitten. "And thank you. I haven't had much time to play since I got here, what with training and all. Me fingers are a bit rusty from not playing every day, but I'm glad you enjoyed it."

Reaching down from the stool he was perched on, he picked up his beer bottle and took a sip which he swallowed with a surprised gulp as she spoke. "You recognized what I was playing? Heh, not many people back home would even recognize it. It was an old English tune, Sheep-Crook and Black Dog, though that's just one of the names it's known by. As is typical," he chuckled, happy to have the chance to prattle on about a subject near and dear to his heart, almost as dear as beer. "I reckon you'd know it if I sang it, and if you listened to Steeleye Span or the likes."

He took a bigger swig from the bottle, then gestured with it, waving her in with a smile. "Come on in, love, I won't bite. Me name's Rob, Robin really, Robin Attewood. Chosen of Dionysus." With a wry nod he raised his beer bottle as if toasting her. Or his deity.

Tara laughed a bit. Rusty? He called that rusty? "Really curious then what your playing sounds like when you're in full form then." She'd first figured he was a Chosen of Apollo--that was where her mind first went towards anyone with musical or artistic leanings. A concept that didn't change as he spoke, making her have to lift a hand to her lips to block a snicker at his surprise at her slight familiarity with the tune.

"I've heard Norma Waterson and Ewan MacColl's versions. Bit different from how you were playing, but makes sense now why I thought it was familiar." Folk music, particularly that from the British Isles, had a large soft spot in her heart, and that he clearly was familiar with actually playing the songs delighted her. "Not sure I could name many others though that aren't a bit more common."

Lips pressed together, her smile made her face all the rounder, nodding in acceptance of his invitation. Her lips popped open on an "Oh!" when he said he was a Chosen of Dionysus. Was the alcohol supposed to be that giveaway? "Really? I thought with the music you'd be chosen by Apollo," she hummed, before realizing that might be offensive somehow. Maybe. "I mean... uh. Ignore that? Restarting. Hi, I'm Tara O'Connell," she said with forced chipper enthusiasm, trying to push beyond that blunder. "Chosen of Artemis. It's a pleasure to meet you, Rob."

"Pleasure's all mine, Tara," Rob grinned at her, taking another swig of beer before putting the bottle down. "I'm impressed you know the song! Yeah, I play -- used to play trad stuff all punked out like --" He banged out some chords and belted out the first line of the chorus in a punk snarl. "Here's me sheep-crook, and me black dog, Iiiii give 'em ta yooooou!" Palming the strings of the guitar again to still them, he laughed, brown eyes crinkling almost shut. "Yeah, that was what I did. Not anymore, though, I don't think. Not with all this going on."

His expression grew soft and pensive. "You woulda thought I'd be chosen by Apollo, right? My best friend from when I was a kid's here -- huge bloody surprise, that was -- and she's an Apollo-Chosen. Took piano lessons from me mum. She's a DJ now." He shook his head, dreadlocks flying. "No, Dionysus chose me. I guess he liked the fact I'm a bit of a beer snob." He snorted. "A bit. No, I'm a helluva beer snob. Max thinks I should go into brewing, and it's actually an idea I've toyed with in past. I dunno, though."

With a laugh, he shook his head again. "Listen to me, prattlin' on and s**t. Music's what drew you in here." He let fly a casual solo riff on the acoustic guitar. "Would you like to hear anything in particular, love?"

Tara grinned at the little example, clapping a little before frowning a bit. "Seems a shame to put away something you clearly love." And was good at, to boot. But he kinda put a valid point on it: with all this going on. Her nails clicked against her camera, eyeing it. Wasn't like she'd done a heck of a lot of wildlife photography jobs since coming up here.

Looking back to Rob, she shrugged and smiled. "Well, you should at least try to keep practicing when you can. Never know what doors might open up for you down the line, or where all of.... this will lead you," she added, gesturing to the studio and, more than that, their being recruited.

Tara spotted an extra chair and took it, listening to his story about another Chosen with interest, eyes wide with equal amazement to hear his old friend was there. "Small world," she murmured, resting her chin in her palm as she leaned forward a bit in her seat, eyes wide, before making a face at the mention of beer. Someone could be a snob about it? All beer tasted horrible to her, so she tried to keep her opinions on that to herself. The idea of brewing some would be neat, though. "What would you want to make, if you could? Could be a pretty fun way to go. Lot of work, but worth it."

Tara shook her head, waving her free hand. "Oh, prattle on. You're fine. You've clearly got a few things on your mind right now. But if you feel like playing, what's your favorite song? Or second favorite, if Sheep-Crook and Black Dog was the first."

With a nod, Rob noodled around a bit on the guitar and thought about Tara's words. It did seem a shame to put away something he loved, something he was good at, that made people happy. He couldn't count all the faces of the people who'd stop to listen to him in the BART stations, listening and nodding along. Even if they ended up not putting anything in his guitar case, it was still gratifying to know his music had an impact on people, if just to brighten their day a little.

"Oh, I'll keep practicing," he agreed with a grin. "Can't keep me hands off my baby here." He patted the body of the guitar. Where all of this will lead? He had no idea. Maybe there was some way of combining brewing beer and music. Like a live music brewpub or something -- that would be a great way to combine the two. He could make beer and still play, and have other bands come and play too -- undiscovered bands, artists just getting started. Give others the chance to do what they love.

All kinds of music. But what kind of beer? Rob pondered her question. "Something unique, for sure. Something different. Something that people who say they don't like beer would enjoy." He thought about that beer he'd been given by Dionysus the night he'd been Chosen; heady, rich, fruity and sweet but not cloyingly so. Like a more full-bodied Belgian lambic mixed with mead, only more beer-like? "I'd like to try to find some old recipes for beer, you know? Like from the Middle Ages, or even older. It'd be a hunt for sure, but I think it would be worth it." With a laugh he picked up his beer. "I'd call it Nectar of the Gods," he grinned, taking a long drink and killing the bottle.

He started noodling on the guitar again, happy that Tara was indulging his mental ramblings. It was good to actually talk this stuff out; it was helping solidify things in his mind. "My favorite song, huh? Hmm. Well, Sheep-Crook is up there, but it ain't my favorite. I think that would have to be Boys of Bedlam. Or that's one of my favorites." He grinned at her and stilled the guitar's strings. "Would you like to hear my take on it?"
