Strange but very interesting news had reached the ears of the blind sage, the news that someone had spotted some some of the very rare and beautiful Suhurama near to the inn. While the sight of them was something that would definitely be lost on Makani there was still a reason to go to where they had been seen. That thing was the feathers of the Suhurama. His older sister was always fawning over the giant birds, talking about how beautiful they were, and how much she wanted one of their feathers. He felt that if he were able to do so that he'd love to be able to fetch her one of the feathers from the great birds. While their brilliant plumage would be lost on someone like him he knew his sister would appreciate it.
He found himself wondering as he gathered his things if he should also get one for Sin'qua? Would she want something so flashy as a firebird's father? He couldn't say that he knew if it was something that she would be interested in. At the same time couldn't feathers be used as quills? He knew that she used quills a lot in her writing so maybe if he got her a feather as well and had it made into a quill by someone that might be capable of such a feat? That might be a gift that she would enjoy, right? He hoped so. He was still pretty new at all of this dating stuff and he wanted to do his best by Sin'qua, which meant doing things that were outside of his realm of knowledge. First had been the flowers and now it was feathers, what sort of gift would he come up with next?
After making sure that there was plenty of water in the barrels he headed out of the inn, going in the direction that he was told the birds had been spotted in. From what he was told there were a trio of them flying around. It made him wondering if perhaps they were younger Suhurama? It would make sense if they were sticking together while they were younger and until they felt that they were ready to split up? It was mostly a guess on his part since he really didn't know all that much about the birds. It was Eira that knew more about them but if he were to ask her about it then his plan wouldn't end up as much of a surprise now would it? As he walked along he found himself thinking that maybe he should have brought someone else along to help him since he couldn't see the birds. He could have brought along Gyuri or Borra, perhaps? Maybe even Li if the boy had been feeling up to it.
Too late to think about it now to think about it he supposed. He'd just have to figure it out on his own and hope that he was able to find them. If they were low enough maybe he'd be able to sense their energy? That seemed as though it would be his best bet when it came to finding the trio of rare birds.
Makani had left the inn in the morning and it wasn't until into the afternoon when he first sensed the energy that was that of the birds. It was unlike any energy that he'd sensed before, one that was powerful in nature, and from a lot closer then he'd of expected. So they weren't flying at the moment? That meant that he had a chance to get a feather then.
Gathering power into his hands he sent a strong wind forward toward where he sensed the birds at. He had no plans on actually hurting the birds, seeing absolutely no reason to harm them. He just figured that the best way to go about gathering feathers then was to use the wind to hopefully knock some of them loose from the birds without harming them. The birds were a rare, beautiful group of beasts after all so best that he went about the gathering of feathers in a manner that would be cautious and careful. If he actually harmed a firebird his sister would harm him in return... which was all the more reason to be careful.
There was a squawking sound from the birds, the three of them sounding as though they weren't all that amused by the sudden gust of wind, and one of them was soon taking to the air. It wasn't long before it was high enough up that he couldn't sense it, leaning him with two more birds to try to get feathers from.

After the first of the birds retreated, possibly flying overhead since the other two hadn't instantly fled, Makani had stood stock still and used his magic to search the area around himself to see if any feathers had fallen as he'd been hoping they would. It took a moment to seeking and he found the feathers, each of them marked by the very modest bit of energy that still clung to them. It was a fading power so he was lucky to have even found them. Picking them up one by one he set to inspecting them. There were three of them, one of them was a very long feather that he'd guess was a primary feather from the wing. The other two were smaller, somewhat softer, so maybe chest feathers? What he knew about feathers was what he'd learned from Rae who had feathers herself.
The feathers were tucked carefully into his pack after he wrapped them in cloth, hoping that would protect the precious feathers until he got back home to the inn. Now he found himself debating if he should go after more feathers from the other two birds since he could still sense them. He had a trio of feathers which was enough to give two to his sister and see that one was made into a quill... but at the same time when would he have such an opportunity again? It was fairly likely that the birds would leave and not return here any time soon. As such shouldn't he at least make the attempt to get more of the Suhurama feathers? After a moment of thoughtful humming he decided that he'd make the attempt. Best to have more feathers, right? So long as the spell was cast in a careful manner so that he wouldn't risk the birds.
Once he got to where he hoped was close enough another wind spell was sent forward to swirl around the remaining birds. Once the winds had died down the birds were already on their way away from Makani. As he stood there, alone now, he found himself thinking on how regrettable it was that he wasn't able to actually see the birds. It wasn't that often that he thought in such a manner, never wanting to complain over his lack of sight. It was just a moment that he'd of liked to have seen in the manner that everyone was able to see. What exactly did the birds that his sister was so obsessed with look like exactly? It had to be something amazing for Eira to like them, that much he knew for certain.
Giving a little shake of his head he started forward in search of of any feathers had had fallen after his second wind spell. There was no reason for him to worry too much over being unable to see them. He wasn't here for sight seeing after all, he'd come to find feathers for those back at the inn. If he were lucky maybe he'd have enough that he could give one of the to his nephew too? That thought in mind he sought out more of the feathers, hoping luck was with him.
