■ PLUCKY Xia is incredibly determined and not easily dissuaded; when she knows what she wants she immediately goes about trying her very hardest to get it. She's also quite bold; Xia isn't one to be intimidated or pushed around, and even when things get hard she can usually be relied on to keep her chin up through it all. However, her persistence can annoy and exasperate those with more realistic perceptions around her, and when she is feeling downtrodden, she is absolutely crushed. ■ WARMHEARTED Taught to always be kind, even when it's difficult from a very young age, Xia is open and accepting of almost everyone, and genuinely cares about the people around her. She tends to be sympathetic to the extreme, always ready to hear the other side of the story, and she is typically very quick to forgive and forget. But when she loses trust for someone, they never gain back the same respect she had for them before. ■ INDUSTRIOUS Xia is extremely diligent and hardworking, and likes to take her time to make sure everything is done correctly. Rarely does she quit or give up. However, the nature of the work tends to affect just how industrious she is. If it's something she enjoys doing, she could happily spend hours at it. If it's something she finds boring or tiresome, she could spend hours dragging her feet. She also has a bad habit of waiting until the last minute to do things, even if she always gets them done. ■ SPOILED Despite her determination and work ethic, it's not unusual for Xia to expect things to just be handed to her. When not challenged to work for what she wants, she can be very lazy. As the baby of her family she received quite a bit of attention from everyone around her, and when not at the center of things she can act as if everyone hates her. Xia is used to, and enjoys the spotlight, and when it suddenly goes out she feels lost. ■ FLIPPANT Xia isn't a very serious or formal person; serious people baffle her. As a result, she rarely takes things as importantly as she should, and she can come off as borderline impudent or disrespectful because of her penchant for grinning and laughing almost all the time. Nearly everything amuses her to some degree, even when it shouldn't, which means she doesn't always make the best first impressions. ■ SELF-PITYING Xia has an unfortunate tendency to feel very sorry for herself, and it holds her back. She's not insecure or overly self conscious, per say, but she tends to focus too much on her own worries and troubles, despite her positive outlook and hopes for the future. Sometimes it's hard for her to drag herself out of this despondent state, but she always bounces back.

CHILDHOOD The pureblooded Wu family, that is, the newlywed husband and wife, expecting their first child, immigrated from southeastern China to Britain in the early 2000s. They named their first son Feng, and were very happy when he was joined a few years later by a younger brother, Chonglin. Unfortunately, Feng died at a very young age from a sudden, harsh bout of illness. The elder Wus were distraught, and focused all of their attention on their surviving son, who grew up feeling more than a little suffocated by all of their expectations. By the time he was Hogwarts-aged, Chonglin had little interest in being anything like his parents, whom he saw as outdated and traditional. Much to their displeasure, instead of marrying a nice, Chinese, pureblooded girl after graduating, he went cavorting off all around the world as a freelancing journalist. To their even further despair, on one of his rare stays back in England he met a muggle girl on a train named Elaine Hawke, and the two very quickly fell in love. They married as soon as possible, and Elaine soon thereafter realized she was pregnant. They named their daughter Xia when she was born, and for the first five years of her life Xia's best friend in the entire world was her mother.
Unbeknownst to her, her parents's marriage wasn't as happy as they made it out to be; Chonglin was always away, and Elaine felt as though she was a single parent, raising a child who barely knew their father. One night while Xia slept they argued, and her mother stormed out to take a walk; as she hurried across an intersection a drunk driver ran a red light, killing her instantly. Xia's father, guilt ridden and having no idea how to handle a grieving five year old, left her with his parents for the next six months, until they finally wrote him demanding he come home. When he reluctantly returned they presented him with an ultimatum; find someone to care for his daughter or put her up for adoption if he couldn't handle fatherhood. They were calling his bluff, and Chonglin gave in- besides, his parents had the seemingly perfect solution. Jingfei Li, a pureblooded widow with a preteen daughter, was looking to marry into money to provide some stability for her and her child after the death of her husband. Chonglin quietly married her; he could continue with his career, and Xia would have a mother and brand new sister to look after and raise her.
This could have ended very badly for Xia, had Jingfei not been an extremely caring woman who was immediately taken in by the little girl. Her daughter Jiayi was less eager to embrace her new stepsister at first, but she too eventually warmed to Xia, and the little girl found herself happy once more, although she was now old enough to begin questioning her father's long absences. When he was home, while he always brought back lavish presents and heaped attention upon her, he always seemed relieved to go, which struck Xia as very odd. She knew other children had fathers, and everyone else always stared at her when she said her father was really only home a few times a year. By the time she was old enough to attend Hogwarts, she had turned to lashing out against her father for always being gone, and occasionally against Jingfei as well, although the woman was the only real parent she had.
