This is a thread for discussing the wave of shootings by, and now of, police officers throughout the country. It is related to the Gun Control thread, but is a separate enough issue that it deserves it's own thread.

It is my personal belief that the police have brought this on themselves. They have Tasers, Pepper spray, and a host of other ways to disable or subdue a suspect, without drawing a firearm and shooting unarmed people in the back. Plus, even assuming that a gun IS necessary, why don't they all have guns loaded with rubber bullets? Deadly force should always be the LAST resort, yet it doesn't seem to take them all that long to reach for that weapon.
Also, whenever they DO get brought before a court to explain their actions, they appear to be little more than "show trials," in which the police are almost invariably aquitted. So, with cops apparently able to kill with impunity, some people have decided to fight back, targeting police officers in some sort of "kill or be killed" mindset. Now, cops have to worry that they might be the ones getting shot. (Though, to be fair, police are almost NEVER unarmed.) It is rapidly degenerating into a state of war, with no end to the bloodshed in sight.
In conclusion, if the police really want to put a stop to these shootings, they are going to have to put down their guns first, and try anything and everything to avoid using deadly force. It should be common sense, but apparently, its not.
