She'd started going back to the shelter more after her first visit, and was slowly learning to relax around the animals and understand why they did certain things. It was something to do, especially now that she was out of school and had nothing but time on her hands. "Morning, Alexis," she said, and she entered the building lobby. Usually she would have asked about the animals, but today she hesitated. There was something else on her mind. "Say, can I ask you a few questions? About... well, that time a few months ago when we went to the otherworld and met that... deer? Pax?"

Alexis looked like they'd just walked in from a personal one-man raincloud, given the water working its way out of their hair - this was despite the fact it was sunny and dry outside, of course - but Alexis did a good job, and they were a volunteer, and people didn't ask too many questions here. "Uh, one second -- Price, right?" They quirked an eyebrow, leaning back so that she was at a better angle. "...yeah, what about that? 's a few months ago, yeah? Kinda forgot you'd been there, honestly." To be fair, they'd forgotten about most of the quiet people.

Ves nodded, more used now to Alexis' sometimes eccentric behavior than she had been the first time she'd been to the shelter. "Yea. Well, I was hoping to keep it that way to begin with," she said. Part of her had thought that maybe if she forgot about it and other people forgot she'd been there, she'd have an excuse to retreat from all of those shenanigans entirely. But maybe that wasn't the best idea. "But now I'm more curious. I figured I'd ask... getting frozen. What was that like?"

Alexis grimaced, sucking in a cold breath between their teeth. "...fine. Y'ever dunked your hand into freezing cold water? It was like that. Except it was all across my legs, n' felt like I was being ******** -" a stop to rephrase - "felt like my legs just kept throbbing. But I was wearin' jeans, anyways, it wasn't so bad." They shrugged, again. "Why? You want to get frozen? I'm sure the deer'd do it if you asked real nice."

"Oh, no," Ves said, smiling as she shook her head. "I just wanted to figure out what you thought about that whole scene." It was hardly the sort of thing one could call normal, after all, and she'd come away from it all feeling like she hardly understood what was happening. And maybe, with some answers from others who'd been present, she'd have a better idea. "Did you understand? What all that was about?" she continued. "Heliodora has been there for thousands of years, but why? Why did we have to 'come and see'?"

"Why would I know," Alexis snorted, with a grunt of exertion as they stretched their arms out behind their head. (It looked painful.) "I haven't seen the Winters chick since we all got dumped into the forest together. I've only seen other people like --" they jerked their head towards Vespertine -- "us. Or things that I can't get a good look at."

"Have you been back since?" Ves asked curiously, watching Alexis stretch in a way that looked anything but comfortable. She figured the answer might be yes, even if it was just a dream-like capacity like herself. But she wouldn't have been surprised if Alexis had wound up back in Other Ashdown in a more involved way as well. "Or, I don't know, seen anything else?" Then again, maybe hearing second-hand wouldn't be as helpful as just finding a way back voluntarily. But Ves didn't know how to begin to find a way back. For now, gathering information could only help. Daekie no worries! i poofed over the weekend too xD

Alexis went through their stretches (not enough routine to be a routine, but if they hurt when they did it, that was probably fine) in their chair, keeping a keen eye on Vespertine the entire time. "'Course I've been back. Place dragged me in a few times; I got chased for my life once, couple months ago a load of us had to go rescue Smith...I saw a kid get eaten by a spider, that was kinda awful." They shrugged. "But I got out of it fine." "I'd tell you if I'd seen anythin'. Well, there is one thing, I guess -- I can sorta figure out where passageways are. I'll be off shift in a few hours - if you're still hangin' around then, I can take you in, if you're up for it."

Curiosity lit up her eyes then. A way to figure out where the passageways are? It intrigued her. And much as she felt unprepared to return to Other Ashdown - and voluntarily, at that - it felt like a rare moment of impulsiveness. She nodded, more eagerly than she would have expected of herself. "I'd appreciate that, yea," she said. "Anything to learn a little more."

"I'll be hangin' around the exits when my shift gets off," Alexis shrugged. "Not really in the front, but more towards the back door in the dog area. You want to head to Other Ashdown? Be there in three hours or whatever." They leaned back in their chair again, running one hand through their untamed bangs. "By the way, we can always use people t'take the dogs for walks." It wasn't a question.

Three hours later, Ves had put some freshly walked dogs back in their kennels and was waiting by the exits to meet Alexis. The walking had given her some time to think, to wonder what exactly this trip into Other Ashdown might show them. Nothing as jarring as a severed foot again, she hoped, although by now Ves understood that this otherplace was far from predictable. If it wanted to show them a foot, it would show them a foot. Wrapping her mind around that had been the hard part. Now, she felt... at least somewhat ready.

Alexis looked considerably more tired than they had -- but given their permanent dark circles (more prominent in direct sunlight), that really didn't mean anything too impressive. An annoying customer, perhaps. Or just the fact they wished they got paid to do this. (Probably the latter. Everything cycled back to legal money eventually.) They extended a hand with a huffy sigh, looking around. "Come on. We'll be there in five or less." MoonRazor aaaand fade to black on yrs? :3 also can you tag me back on that old ves/alexis rp, i wanna use it towards powers
