The garden of the new Penrose house was, by all accounts, just a bit overgrown. Okay, probably more than a bit - it still bore traces of having once been a landscaped beauty with a lovely winding path and sections of flower beds and colourful bushes, but time and neglect had taken its toll. Now, the garden was a bit of a mess; the last owners had given up, lacking the the interest in taking it on and the result had been that despite being a fairly spacious garden by city standards, it had not added as much to the selling price of the home as it might have had it been in a more manageable state.

Luckily for Isobel and her mum - well, mainly her mum because Tibbie hadn't really contributed to the buying of the house. She'd liked it, especially the garden, from the pictures she'd seen before moving but she didn't really have the economy to contribute to the move. And besides, the plan was that she'd be moving out sometime in the foreseeable future, so any extra money she had was being saved for that.

For now though, she was happy living at home and helping out as best she could! For example, by tackling the garden as best she could; her mum had talked about getting professionals in, but they didn't really have the money for it right now so the pinkhaired girl was going to start the work for now and then later someone more skilled might finish it. And possibly undo all the work she'd done because she was a complete novice with little to no idea what she was doing, but at least it was something to get busy with, right? And she'd always wanted a garden of her own, always loved the idea of plants but had never really gotten her fingers stuck in - before now, anyway.

Tibbie was nearly humming with excitement to get going and had borrowed three 'gardening for beginners'-books at the library to help her figure out how to do so. It'd been quite a daunting task, being her first jaunt to the library but she'd managed it by keeping the reward in mind. The reward being a gorgeous garden of her own making. Okay, somewhat own making.

The first job for it, weeding! She'd spent a fair amount of time googling local weeds just so she would know which ones to remove, but they didn't have a printer so she could bring the images with. It was a bit of a bummer but she'd just have to do her best to remember! Maybe next time she could make a few small sketches to bring with her.

But weeding was why she was heading out to the garden today, brand new tools and gloves stashed in her equally new bucket, her usual mori style foregone in favour of a top, a pair of old overall shorts and her hair messily gathered in a bun. She felt ready to dig in and she was going to start at the back of the garden, in the section that couldn't be seen from the house, and then work her way towards the back porch. It was going to be amazing.

Humming, she nearly skipped on her way there, swinging the pink bucket with flowers painted on and perhaps just a tiny bit too excited for the amount of work awaiting her.

In the back section of the garden was a very tall, very dark figure, one that seemed to be wearing a giant pair of antlers. But closer investigation revealed that the deer-creature--for that was what it was--was one hundred percent born that way, delicate little ears and moving green eyes and hooves and all. "You are growing so strong," said the creature seriously to a climbing weed. "I am proud of you. Yes, you are so good." The vine seemed to perk up beneath this attention, leaves uncurling just a tad at the edges. "Yes," repeated the creature; "That's right."

To say that Isobel was lost in her own thoughts as she first came before the unknown creature in her garden would be entirely true; if someone said that she got the worst fright of her life, that might also be very true.

As it was, Tibbie turned the bend in the path and promptly lost her s**t. "Motherf--uuudge-" the bucket went flying in one spastic movement, landing with a clunk in a nearby bush as the girl clutched her chest. "You scared the crap out of me! What are you-" 'doing here' died a soundless death as she took in the sight of the unexpected intruder. "Antlers?!" Her voice was strangled and oh, then she noticed all the other things. "You're..." In possession of entirely too many eyes and either in the best darn costume she'd ever seen or just slightly impossible? "Tall," she finished lamely.
