Feng stood on the edge of the lake, his paws already submerged in the deceptive shallows. The lake's bed, much like the landscape around him, was obsidian. Unlike the terrain, it was a solid slab, hollowed out and bowled inward as if the Weaver himself had pressed his great finger down on earth to create a dip in the ground. It was smooth, black, and flawless. It was also slick and sloped ever towards the depths of the lake. Fire B'alam were not good swimmers...not at all. Feng still hadn't gone past the water against his chest, but it still terrified him.
Ren watched from its perch nearby, preening a wing casually without a thought or care about its companion's plight. Feng threw a short look back over his shoulder, assuring that both Ren and Volga were watching him as he inched his way into the water. He was to learn how to confront his fear- and learn how to over-come it - but it didn't help unwind his clenched gut or steady his trembling body. The water was...horrible. It gave life and shone like a perfect slice of the sky itself but it was mysterious and deceptive. What was in the depths? What would happen if he slid in? How could he over-come something that was liquid?
He raised his paw out of the water and pawed at its surface, spreading his toes wide and splashing the water in a pulling motion. He could create little waves and tug at it. He could feel drag but...how could he apply that to his body?
Taking a deep breath he dared a few more steps forward. The water lapped at his belly, cooling the slight burn that the reflective heat had left. It was refreshing as it was scary. With every step the fluid sky surrounded him more. He wouldn't go out too far- but today he wanted to get the water to the base of his shoulders- just enough so he could keep his paws on the ground but lower his head into the water. The thought sent ice into his gut and turned his bones to jelly. He couldn't do this!

After the meeting in the chamber Qiang Shu had taken the few days after to destroy his workshop. It was quite the difficult task as it was all he ever knew since awakening. Not long after had he awoken into this land had he became Forge's apprentice in the area of a blacksmith. Learning the craft and then making his own with it, he had done it all here. In this place, a place he rarely left, his home.
Now it was gone everything but the few essentials he needed to start a new. The question now was, where would he go? That was a question that he did not even know the answer of at the moment. All he knew is he needed to leave before his craft could be used for Shen's ideals. His ideals were something that he could not get behind. Despite his hesitation at first, leaving and destroying his life's work was the only choice he had.
A labored breath was drawn into his body as the exhausted Tah heaved his pack of belongings over his back and left only caves he ever knew. Qaing had spent some time outside of the caves, but it was mainly for gathering the materials he needed to craft the things he created. Other then that the Tah was quite the unsocial one, only interacting with those who sought him out for his craft only to refuse most of them.
This, this was the first time that he ever felt nervous or scared. To leave the only thing he ever knew behind in hopes to find someone or something that could help the only thing that he knew, the fire tribe. The first few steps were hard as he made his way from the fire capitol. Yes he had been out here before, but now he had no intention of returning, that was the part that scared him the most.
Everything he ever knew seemed to be destroyed within those words that Shen had spoken. His declaration and the strength he had shown in the chamber.
Paws padded on the ground below him. With each step he took it became a bit easier, as long as he did not look back. The heat upon his back added to the physical exhaustion his body held, and his mostly black coat did not help one bit. The radiating heat from the ground added to that. Yes he was part of the fire tribe, but with his mental exhaustion each passing moment seemed to wear him down.
The splash of water caught his attention, though at this point of his journey it could be a hallucination.

As usual, Volga watched the young Cub test his boundaries and explore the lake. It had become more of a home base for the two of them since he had first encountered the Cub. Today Feng seemed determined to conquer the water, something Volga himself had not cared to do. He could tolerate it past his paws, but beyond his neck was another story.
Even so, he had to be ready to try to drag the cub out if he lost his footing or something along the lines. The thought of having to put his face in the water sent his fur on end for a moment. Water was life giving and refreshing, but a hassle at the same time.
"hm.." He rose from his haunches and stood firmly on all fours as another spirit seemed to enter the area. Another Tah... older perhaps?
Volga's dark eyes scanned over the land until he saw the feint flickering of metal in the distance. His gaze narrowed. Not anyone he had remembered. This one could be good or bad. And could just be looking for a refreshing drink.
"Lost?" Volga called out to the other.

The stranger would have gone unnoticed if not for Volga's single word having broken the silence around them. Quietly reprimanding himself for his lack of awareness, Feng swiveled his head around and tossed his ears upwards towards where he heard his instructor's voice. One of his paws slipped- a near thing - but he managed to catch himself by scraping his claws against the deceptively smooth stone below his paws. It was bad enough that someone had taken him by surprise, adding drowning to the regimen of the day would have left his mentor beyond disgraced.
Knowing Volga was on high alert, and capable of handling any hostilities, Feng carefully turned himself about to face the stranger and began picking his way back to the safety of the shoreline. One paw at a time- the obsidian bowl was slick, uneven, and unpredictable. One wrong move and he could slide into the depths of the lake and join the shale and debris at the bottom of it.
The stranger, for he was just that, had armor ...and something else. Volga's attire covered more of his body but this one seemed confident enough in his own gear. Fascinating...they came in different shapes.
"Were we expecting someone?"

Ears flicking as the words of the other reached them. Real, it was real, the water was real. Although the face of the adult who spoke was unfamiliar to him, he was at least glad to have found someone. Someone who would at least listen to what he had to say, to tell what he had witnessed. Maybe he could help.
It was the brief hope that had quickened his paced, despite how exhausted his entire being was. Days he had been out traversing these mountains lugging his tools about. The effort along with the heat had put quite the toll on the blacksmith's mind and body. There were times were he had wanted to give up. But it was his desire to change the things that were happening in the Fire tribe that kept him going at the pace he was pushing himself at.
His tongue licked his dry lips, wetting his mouth before he spoke. "Not exactly." Qaing Shu responded, though it took him some time to notice the defensive position the armored one took. "I am on a quest to find help. The fire tribe has fallen into the wrong paws." he explained. Of course it was only his opinion, as many had made their own opinions about Shen who had during the meeting.
He had hoped his words would ease the others defenses a bit. Then the cub came into view speaking to the adult. Were was its parents? It was quite obvious that the adult and the cub did not look anything alike. Was it too displaced by Shen's ideals?
Many more questions began to form in the blacksmith's mind, but he held his tongue. He'd ask later

"No, but it still might be a boon..." Volga whispered to Feng before turning all his attention to the Tah.
Volga's eyes narrowed on the newcomer. 'the fire tribe as fallen...' cut like sharp blades into his very soul. It was further a reminder of Volga's failure, and his loss of a very dear friend of his.
He would have gladly stormed the nation and taken it back, only proving himself to be a tyrant like the current occupant. Besides, that task was not his to take. The cub... Volga drew in a heated breath. The weaver had other plans.
"Clearly, why do you think we are out here and not within the walls?" Volga stated with a grin forming on his maw.
This had to have been a new woven if he had not recognized him. Volga had held such a high status before... Perhaps it was for the best.
"But you, why do you say 'fallen into the wrong paws'?" Volga inquired with an upward tilt of his head.

Feng acknowledged his master's words with a subtle nod before turning his attention to the stranger. There was an odd smell hanging on the new tah's fur, something he couldn't quite place. It wasn't like the cool air around them, dry and almost salty from the eastern winds blowing off of the nearby ocean. It was...hot, earthy, and thick. He must have come from the lands Volga had not long ago. So he too was from the Fire Tribe's capital- a place Feng had never seen for himself but was growing more familiar with through here-say. Apparently, the place had fallen into some sort of turmoil. Their Magi, both of them, had gone missing. While Feng wasn't quite familiar with the idea of the Magi, magic itself, or the weight of authority that they carried, the pain in the voices of those that had spoken of the incident was genuine enough to merit a good deal of sympathy for their plight.
Now... "fallen into the wrong paws"? Had another Magus come along to provide leadership?
He made a small, thoughtful sound and rolled his ears back slightly. "You've found peaceful company, traveler." He spoke, quietly but firmly. "We would hear of what you have seen, if you would share it. We have little to offer, however. Water, if you are thirsty, and a safe place to rest if you are weary."

Although Qiang was still weary from his journey across the obsidian field, but the words of the cub eased his mind slightly. Tiredly he lifted his pack of tools off of his back and set it upon the ground, deciding that he would tell these two what he had witnessed in the throne room that day.
Qiang nodded to Volga. Although it was a matter of opinion on how wrong of paws Shen Lung's was, still he was not the only one who had this opinion. Many on that day had voiced their concern and objection to Shen's rise to the throne.
"A Tah named Shen Lung has taken claim to the throne." he began his explanation. "He called a meeting in the throne room and voiced his claim to it as well as how he felt The Weaver to be irresponsible, and instead of waiting for The Weaver to fix the disappearance of the Magi he decided to take matters into his own paws."
Of course this was all Qiang's interpretation of how the meeting in the throne room went down. But the events were true enough as it was. "Many had voiced their concerns, a few others rose to fight against it, only to be met with defeat. Shen took the eyes of one pale Tah, where another had stepped up to defend this Tah. He ended up breaking the leg of another in a duel."
Although recalling what he had witness was quite upsetting he tried not to let it get to him now. "I deemed him unworthy of my craft and so I set out and left the only home I ever knew."

Volga's grin vanished at the news of this newcomer to the title his lost best friend had once held. His brow furrowed from under his helmet. This happened because he had left, because he had failed at his task of being the personal bodyguard to the emperor.
"Shen Lung..." He repeated the name as if it were a vile taste on his tongue. The nerve.
He could go back and re-claim the throne. Just as soon as the thought crossed his mind his eyes caught Feng in a side glance. No. That was not his task to accomplish. What he needed to do was protect Feng.
"If the young lord Feng welcomes you, so do I. There will be no problems so long as you wish no harm to him. Regain your strength and than we can continue this discussion. Unless you have information we need to know immediately..."
Despite wanting to continue to question the odd traveler and know more about this "craft", Feng's sense of compassion was not forgotten. He was, after all, in charge. Volga was only there for his protection.

Feng's ears slowly rolled back and his shoulders tensed as the strange Tah went on to describe the events that had brought him here. The magi had gone missing- and rather than wait for the Weaver's answer to their prayers, one among them had taken it upon himself to fill the role. It had...some sense perhaps. The Weaver provided, but as Feng had come to know- nothing came without great effort. If one didn't hunt, they didn't eat. If they didn't seek out water, they would go thirsty. The Weaver was a provider, but he wasn't a charity. Whatever this "Shen Lung"'s intentions were, his methods were far from good.
Of course, he only knew one side of it. Still... a b'alam was now blinded by the paw of another, a second was crippled. How could a b'alam raise paw to another without provocation? Were his ideals that important to him? There were too many questions brought on by the tah's answer, questions that would go unanswered for some time yet.
"I thank you for your cander." Feng said cautiously, not openly rebuking or approving of the actions of the ursuper. "You are welcome here among us, for as long as you need or desire."
He shifted a glance to Volga. "We should see if there is a way to learn more. If there are those that oppose this tah, they may pass through our lands. I would like an active effort made to seek them out and learn what we can from them."

The make nodded tiredly at the other's words, he indeed was tired crossing the obsidian fields under the hot sun with all of his luggage for his craft was quite the truck. "I only know what untold you as I did not stick around any longer then it was needed." He spoke on reply to Volga.
Lifting a paw upon the pack he had placed on the ground earlier the tah leaned his mass against it. "Thank you little one." He spoke to Feng with great appreciation on his voice. He would take the two up on their offer to rest here as he was quite curious about the relation of these two. After all the older one called the smaller one lord, perhaps this too was a sign. However Qiang Shu would need more time for observation before he would make an official judgement, just like he had when Shen Lung had called forth the meeting with in the heart of the fire tribe.

Volga nodded. There was nothing more that could be done. Feng had spoken, and there was clearly no more this tah could offer in ways of information.
"It would be wise to do so, but we should allow time for trust to settle. We do not want Shen to catch wind or plant a traitorous seed in our midst."
Volga knew he was stating the obvious, but his tone suggested that the seed, should it be present, would be dealt with accordingly. That was an unspoken promise.

"True...", Feng's brow creased. Volga's statement brought forth another unfortunate reality- if there were those willing to turn on Shen, there could very well be those willing to do the same for him. Trust was fragile- and blind. They were too few here yet and few even knew eachother's names.
"Volga-", He piped up, lifting a paw, "Could..I go close to the border and observe for myself? I'm sure that our friend here could give me the directions that I need." He glanced to the stranger for varification.Of course, it was a very long shot. The territory beyond the mountains sounded like they were full of danger, but he had to get more information. To go into those lands blind would be as wise as leaping into the lake with a boulder tied to his horns.
"My face isn't known there-"
