Anga stomped a bit as she walked away from the place that she was currently calling “home”. It had been a while but unfortunately she had not been able to get back with her sisters yet and couldn’t get in contact with them. By the time she had come back from her latest outing, which took a couple of days, they had moved on and left her. She wasn’t sure what had happened, but surmised that perhaps they felt as though she left too much or she didn’t care about them, but they could have at least let her know that they were leaving! As of right now, all she could do was guess what her sisters were up to and vent out her frustrations a little bit.

Themba was much better off. Currently he had just woken up so he was feeling nice and rested. He had managed to catch a meal pretty quickly too so he wasn’t even hungry anymore. And he had round a great place to just rest, relax, and enjoy. So, that is what he was currently doing as he lazily surveyed the landscape and whatever moved. That is when he managed to see the light colored female. She didn’t blend too well into the landscape and so was quite easy to spot. Though she didn’t seem to be trying to blend in either. She had quite the frown on her face as she moved around and looked like she was ready to kill anything that got in her way.

How could they just leave me! And I don’t think they were killed or anything, there weren’t any signs of a struggle, so they must have just left! Why would they do that? Anga couldn’t stop these angry thoughts from staying in her head and felt as though she needed to get some anger out of her. She wasn’t that hungry right now, but perhaps killing something might bring her hunger about and make her feel a bit better about being left behind. Luckily though, there seemed to be some gazelle nonchalantly grazing a bit a-ways that hadn’t spotted her yet. Those would do, they were fast so they would at least make her get a workout.

Themba watched, interested, because the lioness seemed to be focusing on the gazelle near the small watering hole that had gathered again after he had killed his prey. They were quite trusting weren’t they? Though perhaps they thought that since he had gotten his food that they were now safe since he wouldn’t be eating again for a while. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case as the lioness was now on the scene, so they would have to be ready again to get away from her. He continued to watch from his spot to see how the female did as she ducked into the grass a bit, trying to hide as much as she could.

Anga lowered herself as much as she could to the ground while still keeping an eye on all of the gazelle. She would try to find one that would make the best target, perhaps the one that looked the oldest or seemed to be the slowest. She took a minute to study her prey before she started to move, ever so slowly toward her prey. She wanted to get close enough so that if she did manage to spook them before she was ready to jump, she would perhaps be able to catch up with them still. She continued to move as slowly as she could, but just before she was ready to jump and attack, they all lifted their heads, and swiveled their ears trying to listen for something.

Themba was surprised when he saw the gazelle go on the alert. He assumed they hadn’t heard the lioness as of yet and so wondered what could possibly have them on edge. Or perhaps the lioness was just that loud. The gazelle suddenly turned their head in the same direction and he saw what had spooked them. A hyena had entered the area looking for a meal. Themba felt kind of bad as he figured that the hyena had probably been attracted to his recent kill, smelling the carcass and figuring it would be a free meal. He really should have kept an eye on it, but he tended not to once he was full. He figured scavengers would just get to the body so he felt no need to protect it. He could just go out and hunt for something else if he got hungry again.

Anga wondered if she would still be able to catch something now that the attention of the gazelle was now on something else. She took a chance to lift her head a bit and saw that a hyena had entered the area. Well, perhaps he would count as a good distraction. She readied herself, before quickly darting out. The gazelle were caught by surprise as the lioness jumped out at them and it took a second or two for them to start running. The hyena seemed surprised too as it scampered away a bit, making sure to stay out of the lioness’s way.

Well, it seems like they’re both getting a meal after all. Themba thought to himself as he saw the lioness jump out and chase some of the gazelle for a bit before managing to catch one that had been lagging behind. And while the hyena had been scared for a bit, he seemed to shake it off and turn his attention to what had caught his sense of smell before, that of Themba’s recent meal. At least the lioness wouldn’t have to deal with the scavenger then, or else he might have seen quite a bloody fight between her and something else. He considered her lucky.

Anga sighed in contentment as she feasted on her meal. Since the hyena was alone it wouldn’t be going anywhere near the lioness while she had her meal. Though she wouldn’t be surprised if the hyena tried to catch a bite after she was done with it, but oh well. She wouldn’t mind. She needed to let her anger out a little more and if she had to kill a few gazelles or zebras or whatever else for prey then she would. She would deal with sneaky scavengers after she was feeling better.
