Marisol entered the gymnasium, determined to get a handle on this whole fighting business that had been dropped on them all like a bombshell. She had spent the morning stretching and inquiring about the weapons available to her. Of all the options, only four had been of interest: a dagger, a crossbow, a whip, and the throwing stars. For reasons not quite known, she'd chosen to try out the throwing stars on a beginner dummy. With a breath, she aimed and managed to make contact. The dulled edge (as she'd learned, the practice weapons were all padded for everyone's safety) had managed to hit the dummy before falling to the ground. This was going to take a lot of practice. Marisol's Health: 50 - 3 (Ranged Weapon) = 47 HP
Dummy's Health: 25 HP - (4 x 100%) = 21 HP

She let out a breath as her elbow pointed at the target dummy, pinching the star between her thumb and index finger as she'd been instructed. When she felt ready, she let loose and felt the weapon leave her hand. Once again the throwing star hit the target, this time slightly closer to where she'd aimed. Marisol's Health: 47 HP

This time she bent her knees a little more, rotating her hips as she shifted forward and lent more force to the throw. There was a resounding smack as the weapon hit the dummy. She grinned; that was a direct hit to the chest. Marisol's Health: 47 HP

Now she was getting it! There was the very briefest similarity to doing a pirouette. Or at least setting up for one, as she shifted until her hips aligned and gave her throw momentum. Marisol's Health: 47 HP

Or maybe not. She covered her face, wincing, as the throwing star veered sharply to the left, marginally connecting with the dummy before bouncing off and thudding to the ground. At least this was practice. Otherwise the monsters and chosen would have broken into gut wrenching laughter at such a pathetic shot. And yet her previous shots had done enough damage that the paltry damage from this shot toppled it down. Marisol's Health: 47 HP

After the success with the previous dummy, Marisol went back to look over the weapons available to her. She wanted to be proficient in as many weapons as possible and that meant trying out new ones. Practice seemed to be the most logical time to do so; eventually, she pulled a whip into her hands. The flexible leather cord moved akin to waves rolling onto the beach, as graceful as herself, she thought. Deciding it was time to up the ante, she approached an intermediate dummy. Inhaling, she positioned herself and flung out her arm to send the whip tip out. It thudded loudly against the foe as the dummy tossed a hacky sack at her. She grimaced, slightly; it stung, not unlike a stray tennis ball. Marisol's Health: 50 - 3 (Ranged Weapon) - 3 (Attack) = 44 HP
Dummy's Health: 40 - (4 x 100%) = 36 HP

The whip's movement, she found, was an extension of herself. Where the throwing stars had been all about her movement before and up until the exact second she let go, this was all about every motion she telegraphed. She found that if she felt her aim had been off, she could nearly pull it in any direction she pleased. Even backwards, if she so desired. It was almost like a dance as she twisted to her left and pulled the whip's tip into contact with the dummy once more. Against her side the dummy's counter attack was sharp but ignored. She shifted right and began to plot her next maneuver. Marisol's Health: 44 - 3 = 41 HP
Dummy's Health: 36 - (4 x 200%) = 28 HP

Finding the rhythm, she flicked her arm out and twisted her wrist as she leapt up. The whip responded to her body's trajectory and at the last second smacked into the dummy's nondescript face. This, this she could do. She even chuckled when her practice foe's attack hit her square in the chest. Marisol's Health: 41 - 3 = 38 HP
Dummy's Health: 28 - (4 x 200%) = 20 HP

Again she experimented with how the whip followed her movements. She dropped into a crouch and lashed out as she jumped upward, causing the whip to follow. The leather hit the dummy before crashing back down and whacking it again. Marisol's Health: 38 - 3 = 35 HP

She wondered if she could get the tip to wrap around a foe. There was no knowledge on how to do so or if it was even possible but she set out to attempt it anyway. It failed, as she expected, instead cracking against the dummy. She winced in sympathy at the sound -- she wouldn't want that happening to her. Marisol's Health: 35 HP - 3 = 32 HP

One last attack, that's all she needed. She threw her weight back the thin leather cord as it struck true and the dummy toppled in defeat. Another foe down. Marisol's Health: 29 - 3 = 26 HP

With two dummies down, she considered the other two weapons. The dagger was sleek and fit nicely within her palm. Yet it left her exposed as she would have to be no more than an arm's length away to use it. She'd need a full belt of daggers to use them as she had the throwing stars. Setting it down, she moved to the crossbow. It was lighter than she expected and she lifted it up in her arms easily, once she came before the second intermediate dummy. She closed one eye and tilted her head to use the sight to aim. The bolt flew through the air and smashed into the dummy. She was so surprised by the ease of it that she barely noticed the dummy's counter attack. Marisol's Health: 50 - 3 (Ranged Weapon) - 3 (Attack) = 44 HP
Dummy's Health: 40 - (4 x 200%) = 32 HP

A bolt held between her fingers, she loaded the crossbow. She pressed her fingers against the trigger and pulled, watching as the bolt hit. This weapon seemed easier, almost, and yet... she felt disconnected from it. Marisol's Health: 44 - 3 = 41 HP

With a frown, she lifted her head. Something was missing. Point and shoot wasn't bad nor easy for everyone. Yet it seemed the crossbow held nothing to learn; it just responded as if she'd done this before. She didn't even bother to aim as she loaded the bolt and pulled the trigger. The arrow still hit the target, granted it wasn't at all a good shot, and she felt all the more annoyed when the hacky sack crashed into her thigh. Marisol's Health: 41 - 3 = 38 HP
