Lissa had little patience for her orientation--there was only so much to be learned on guided tours and paved walkways. She'd done her part to ask as many questions and generally be a nuisance to her poor guide, and had been left with her keys and a room assignment with hardly any pomp or celebration. She was used to the cold shoulder, but not the high ceilings or the vast collection of maps and images that greeted her inside the common area of the Hermes dorm.

Some of the pictures were places she'd seen, monuments and cities and landscapes, but even more were of places she hadn't, beaches and mountains and ruins in places she couldn't even imagine. She stepped into the main foyer and the floor didn't squeak--that was new for her. For all that the room was full of maps, the place didn't smell musty, except for perhaps the faintest trace of used books and spices, more pleasant than perturbing. That was new, too. All in all, it felt like somewhere she would run security for, not somewhere she would ever actually expect to live.

Despite the curious strangeness of the place, she wasted no time in making herself at home, draping herself across the fluffiest looking couch in the room with her limbs splayed wide. She had only a backpack and a single suitcase of personal articles, and let those drop to the floor beside her, taking in a deep breath of the clean smell of the cushions and letting out a satisfied sigh as she exhaled.

Oh yeah. She could get used to this.

Jan had enjoyed the tour for the most part, getting a look at all of the (free) things he'd get to take advantage of. He was less enthused about the idea of a dorm room given his usual very fancy standards of living and extensive savings. Still, it was something new, and in his feline way he couldn't help but make himself at home. The maps were a nice touch really, he thought, as someone who spent most of his life running from one situation to another.

He wasn't sure where to begin with decorating his room and while making a list of the things he would need in addition to the several suitcases he'd already brought with him and which now littered his room, he spotted Lissa on the couch. Sauntering over with a bright and enthusiastic smile the short and slender blonde man inclined his head in greeting.

"Am I safe to assume that Hermes invited you here also? Crazy, right?"

"I mean, invitation is kind of a broad term for what happened, but yeah," Lissa drawled sweetly, watching the man upside-down from her cushioned perch. "Crazy's a broad term for it, too, but hey, I can work with it." The man was lithe, delicate, and if she squinted she thought she could just make out the same silhouette her vision had worn. Hermes liked them thin, then, based on what she'd seen from the others with the winged pendant, which raised a question or two as to why the tan woman with a wrestler's build had been among those chosen.

"You ever been to summer camp before?" she asked, stretching her arms out in a yawn. "I feel a little old for it myself, but I'm all about campfires and arts n' crafts." It wasn't what they were here for, and she knew that, but it felt easier to say than 'learning how to fight monsters'. She still hadn't fully processed that one.

"True." he said, sitting himself down opposite. "I did get the feeling that saying no wasn't really on the table, or that if I did something unpleasant might happen. The whole thing felt a bit sinister if I'm honest but eh." he shrugged. "I was rather bored with my lot in life, everything felt like it had gone a little bit too easy, this is more of a challenge."

He shook his head regarding summer camp. "Can't say that I have. Grew up in Britain for the most part, generally when we were young we just stayed at home and got underfoot with our parents. Went to a music camp of sorts for a few days one summer but it was much too damp for campfires. Possibly why all of this seems so new to an old dog like me. The studios look very exciting I've got to admit, there's been a few things I've wanted to catch up on."

He smiled a little wryly. "Though I am wondering what the catch is, and if these monsters we keep hearing about are going to end up eating us. If that's the case I'd sooner be the first rat to leave the sinking ship, if you get my drift."

Lissa's eyes lit up at the mention of a challenge, and she rolled to face him with a curious grin. "Just moved in and you're already feeling challenged? Boy, I don't know if you're gonna last the week." The grin on her face was joking, but there was something predatory and self-satisfied in her eyes that gave her away.

"Britain sounds pretty fancy," she nodded, already building her profile of the man in her mind. Self-serving, upper class, but he was at least pragmatic about their situation, and it was a trait Lissa herself could respect.

She just wasn't going to be picking him for any group activities any time soon.

"Monsters can't be that bad," she shrugged, buffing her fingernails on one shoulder nonchalantly. She had yet to actually see any monsters, and just sort of assumed that it was slang for whatever enemy force they would be tackling. "But no, yeah, if this turns out to be the start of Hunger Games 5, then I'm out, because nah."

Jan laughed airily. "What can I say? I'm a bit of a hopeless case." He seemed to take a shine to her joking style.

"Oh and it can be. Quite fancy, not been back in a while." he said, preferring to paint a more old-world mental image of his upbringing, grand halls and castles, waited on hand and foot rather than dilapidated post-industrial council estates which ran closer to reality.

"And "monsters can't be that bad" has to be someone's last words." he said with a grin. "I used to frequent a lot of conspiracy forums and image boards about supernatural things. Part and parcel of the whole working as a psychic thing. Most of those guys used to act like monsters were everywhere and a horrible threat."

He toyed with one of the necklaces around his neck, a brilliant blue gem on a gold chain, his bracelets jangling. "But yes, I'd wager humans have always been much worse in their way."

"You'll have to show me how to make a spot o' tea sometime," she smirked, trying to take on the stereotypical British accent, but the words were clunky on her teeth, the sort of impression you picked up from watching Bond villains and not the BBC.

"So, wait...you're a psychic?" Lissa's eyebrows lifted, but her gaze remained steady--skeptic, but definitely interested. "You got a crystal ball or something? Palm reading and stuff? That's badass." Her eyes followed the way he twirled his necklace, and she couldn't help but feeling a bit cheated if they let a psychic come in here with all his toys--she wasn't permitted anything other than her pocket knife, and even that she felt like she'd had to smuggle in.
