The Artemis dorm sat on a cliff overlooking the ocean, on the edge of the forest -- and they also seemed rather aggressively anti-boys. Asher'd just been on a simple self-guided tour when he'd wandered in the doors, and had promptly been thrown out on his a**. Apparently, there was somewhere on grounds that he absolutely wasn't supposed to go. It left him more amused than annoyed, but also aimless --

So. He sat at the edge of the cliff, legs dangling fearlessly out over nothing, with a handful of rocks in one hand and a wind blowing hair back out of his face. One by one, he launched them as far as he could, and Asher didn't have a bad arm. Most skittered across the small stretch of beach below, but a few kept sailing, and he'd swear that several hit the water with an audible thunk.

With his supply exhausted, he sprawled backwards instead: grass and dirt under his back, dark hair a messy cushion around his face, and eyes narrowed to slits against fading summer sunlight.

Ed hadn't really cared to check out the other forms after the initial tour and settling into his own Ares room, but he had found himself eager get out and explore the space they'd all found themselves in. He'd never been to Michigan before, and while he'd heard that there were parts of it, a few, that were as densely populated and built up as the city he'd grown up in, the majority of the state was still fairly undeveloped and left to nature. The evidence of that seemed pretty clear here, situated on the northern coast of the lower peninsula.

The long expanse of blue stretching to the north was Lake Huron, though it was certainly bigger than any lake Edward had seen in his youth. Maybe the ocean. The place managed to remind him of home, while alternately being completely different, and that was ver interesting.

He was wandering when he stumbled(almost literally) upon the figure reclining at the edge of the cliff that rose up from the coast. "s**t." A careful side step kept him from trodding directly onto the young man's arm.

"Sorry." It was automatic, but sullen. Silently dividing up the blame. Who just lays out in the middle of a field next to a cliff, anyways?. "Didn't see you laying there." Never mind that Ed had been distracted. Clearly this was not his fault, no matter the apology. Oh hey, wasn't that the kid from the bonfire?

Asher had been nearly asleep: so much so that he didn't even twitch as he was almost trod upon, and only opened his eyes all the way again at the sound of someone's voice. For a moment, he looked lost, blurry and content -- then his pupils clicked into focus. He didn't sit up, but somehow his posture shifted all the same. His jaw jutted a bit more, his mouth quirked up at one corner, somehow easily teasing --

"Oh. Hey. Magic Mike." The smile spread, wider, his tone rumbling and comfortably mocking. "How's it hanging?"

Oh, that's original...

Edward barely contained the subtle curl of his lips, and instead of the sneer that had been threatening, he charged it into a smile that was only slightly strained. "Fine. Checking things out."

Pale brows arching along with a gentle tilt of his head, Edward flicked baby blues towards the edge of the cliff and the beach below. "Is it really wise to take a nap half hanging over a cliff?" Seemed a bit reckless.

"Didn't you hear? We're basically immortal now." It was easy, idle; Asher still didn't move, arms splayed out above his head and his t-shirt, vibrantly green with a bold splash across it, riding up to show just a faint, pale sliver of stomach. He was awake now, though, watching Ed in a sharp sort of way, unwavering focus. Asher looked lazy, sounded sarcastic, but there was substance behind his eyes.

"I don't actually remember your real name there, Channing Tatum."

Ed's gaze slid back to the reclining Hermes chosen, lips twitching incredulously to one side. "I heard, but doesn't seem worth risking it." Yes,a lot of very strange things had happened in the last week or so that suggested their new keepers weren't lying to them, but still. They'd only just met them, just arrived, and Edward was keen to reserve judgement for now.

The nickname, this one not much better than the last, seemed to make the blonde bristle, just a bit, before he released a quicker than normal breath and sank his hands further into the depths of his pockets. "Edward Hughes." If he wasn't certain he'd be seeing a lot more of all these people, he wouldn't bother to be half so nice, but...

"You're Asher, right?"

"The one and only." He moved, finally, to swipe hair back out of his face -- and then, sighing, gave up on his comfortable sprawl. He pushed himself slowly up to sit, woozy for just a moment, peering down at the beach below, and then pulled back away from the edge of the cliff to sit cross-legged on the sparse grass. He didn't stand. It'd only emphasise how much shorter he was than Ed.

"If you were going to check out the Artemis dorm, don't. The girls there aren't open to visitors of our ilk." It was a funny word. maybe he was quoting.

They might have been relative strangers, but Asher moving away from the edge was still a relief. An small nod of approval, features softening a touch, and the larger of the two sank down to claim a patch of thin grass more or less beside the other man. It was a beautiful spot, and Asher seemed an okay guy. He might as well stick around and enjoy the cool breeze rising up from the beach below them.

"I wasn't, having heard something to that effect during the tour." Hand listing, he scratched at the stubble coming in along the edge of his jaw. "Seems a little unfair, though. Doesn't it? There isn't a males only dormitory." It wasn't really among his more pressing concerns, but since that was where the conversation had been heading.

Asher snorted at that, watching Ed with his elbows on his knees -- maybe trying to figure out if the guy was serious or not. He didn't scratch, but he did fidget -- one toe tapping idly into space, like sitting still in this way was simply too much effort.

"There's like twice as many guys as girls here, from what I could see, right. Like, if you turned around and squinted at the crowd. So maybe it's not really that unfair." His tone still had that edge to it; lilting, a little, like everything he said was just that obvious and he couldn't believe everyone else hadn't picked up on it.

"Anyway, that place seems boring. Hermes dorm is way more interesting."

Ed hadn't noticed the division of gender, but then he also hadn't been looking for it. So he shrugged, conceding the point. "I guess." It was a sign that maybe he should try to pay a little more attention to those that had been brought here with him. As of yet he really hadn't been doing a good job of it. "My roommate's a girl."

He glanced back at the dorm in question as it was mentioned, and then past it towards the other dorms. "I haven't checked out any of the others yet. There's an armory right next to Ares' dorms. Hell, the dorm itself seems like an extension of the armory. There's weapons all over." He waved a hand vaguely.

"What's Hermes' like?" He seemed genuinely curious.

"Maps and s**t and pictures from all over the world, it's pretty badass." Asher scraped both hands through his hair and, somehow, with that gesture, he turned it from a tangled mess to an artful mess. He tipped his head to peer down his nose at Ed.

"But it's got this awesome arch over one of the paths, windows on either side, you can just sit there and watch people walking around campus. Not bad at all. Plus, you know, the only-one-roommate thing is pretty sweet."

A flick of pale eyes, barely preceptable, at the smoothing of dark hair, and then back on the other man's face again. He shifted, one long leg drawn back close to his body, so he could drape an arm across his knee.

"That does sound pretty interesting." More so, perhaps, because until now Ed hadn't done a great deal of traveling outside of Seattle.

"So how'd it happen for you? Being chosen?" A few people had shared their experiences already, but the bouncer was having trouble remembering who. Not Asher. At least he was fairly certain the smaller man hadn't.

The question made him smile, though, the expression sliding across his face slowly. He tapped fingers next to his mouth, watching Ed in a more slantwise kind of way now. Testing, perhaps.

"I was high as hell, so I don't know how clearly I remember it all." A strum against his lower lip. tap tap tap from pinky to pointer. "But it was cartoons. Complete with the winged sandals and everything else. And then the girl with the pink hair, I can't remember her name..."

"Brynn?" He provided helpfully. She was the only girl that he'd sen with pink hair. Or mostly pink, anyways. Sidney had a little pink in her's, but Ed was pretty certain that wasn't who Asher was talking about.

"So Hermes spoke to you out of a cartoon?" He gave a small, amused huff, lips ticking in a very small smile as pale eyes twitched off to the lake beside them. "I'd say that seems different, but given the nature of all this..." Another vague gesture of his free hand.

Everything seemed different.

"You're overthinking it there, Chippendale." Asher fought down a yawn as he said it, stretching his back out slowly -- and then leaning back on his hands. It had been a nice nap, and while he was away now, part of him wanted to go back to it. Especially if Edward were going to be all awed and inspired by the whole situation.

He shook his head. "You've got room and board and all kinds of crazy s**t you can use. Just do whatever is it you're good at that got you picked."

But this statement, finally made him go just a hair thoughtful, frowning.
