Only accessible via the Preparation Chambers, or a suicidal leap from the stands, the Arena Floor is the most dangerous place in Sedem Reges. A wide expanse of flat ground, the arena is covered with a thin layer of sand and gravel over a floor of stone. Various gates lead into the arena from the sides, the traditional entry points for warriors and gladiators, as well as animals and monsters released from the menagerie. Additional grates however can be found scattered around the floor, which are used at times to release monsters or new combatants from unexpected places, just to increase the thrill for the spectators. Normally a simple smooth floor as mentioned, occasionally the arena is reconfigured to keep things fresh, with barriers of different types being added to use as hiding places, or for the much stronger of warriors, weapons.
Battles in the arena can have many different rules and purposes, but one rule stands above all others. When you step out on the sands, you take your life in your own hands, because the arena holds only death for it's inhabitants.

 Standing in the exact center of the arena, S couldn't help but wonder just where things had gone wrong. Rubbing his chin with one hand, he looked to the sky, thinking back. He'd been wandering the streets, searching for any sign of Shiny, when some jerk had walked right into him!

”Oi! Watch where you're going you filthy animal!” the man snapped at him, shaking S from his thoughts and causing him to look up towards the voice with a frown. He'd been walking a perfect line, and this guy ran into him and started yelling at him? “Shut up fake hair.” he mumbled back, having noticed the man's hair slide a bit to the side during his yelling, and the fact it smelled different than his body. Deeming that enough interaction with the rude man, S continued to walk, only to stop short as his shoulder was grabbed by the now livid man. “Who do you think you are?” the man snarled. “Do you know who I am?!” “No.” the humanoid cat replied, turning his head to face the man directly, eyes cutting to slits. “But I think you should let go.”
The man scoffed at the boy's warning, and instead gave his shoulder a yank, spinning S around to face him directly, opening his mouth presumably to enlighten him on just who he was, but all that came out was a startled scream as S grasped at his arm with his free hand, dragging his claws down the length of it and leaving five inch deep gouges down the now badly bleeding limb. Needless to say, the man loosed S from his grip.
“Filthy beast! I'll see you dead! Guards!” the man shouted loudly enough to draw attention from all around them. Two guards quickly came over, and seeing the man, and obviously knowing themselves who he was, they grabbed hold of S, holding him tightly by the arms so he couldn't get away. “Take this animal to the arena! I'll see him dead on the floor!” he commanded, grasping his bleeding arm tightly. “Fine, I'll see you there!” S shot back. Here this guy attacked him for no reason and he was being dragged off for fighting back?

Okay, so it was actually fairly clear where things had gone wrong then. Maybe he shouldn't have reacted so badly, but the guy had been a jerk, and was keeping him from looking for Shiny! He deserved it! It was just too bad S couldn't figure out how to make his claws grow like he used to, guy wouldn't even have an arm anymore! But still, that didn't explain the current situation. S was in the middle of the arena floor, but the jerk wasn't down here with him, instead he was surrounded on all sides by other people he didn't recognize, and they didn't look too friendly.
“Attention!” a familiar voice called out, causing S to look up at the stands. The jerk who attacked him was up in some special seating area, and all the people around seemed to be watching him. S frowned. Why was he up there, when S was down here with these guys? “For today only, forget the rules! Whoever kills this animal child will have their freedom!” the man shouted, causing the men around S to cheer, and the audience to shout in some mixture of shock and to a lesser degree anger. “Hey, why are you up there? Shouldn't you be down here?” S called out, the comment resulting in silence all around, everyone apparently wanting to hear the reply. “Like I would fight a beast like you!” the man angrily retorted, before holding up some sort of cloth and waving it around like a lunatic.
