It had been a trying few weeks.

It had been nine days since Ofelia had been admitted to hospital, nine days in the ICU where doctors ran numerous tests no no avail. Finally, now her health had taken a turn for the better, she was allowed to leave - be told she would have to come back regularly to make sure her condition didn’t take a bad turn. The brunette was glad to be off of the ward, but since getting home felt very out of place. Elzo had not been around whilst she was in hospital and though she told herself he was probably busy she still felt an odd twinge of disappointment; he does not owe you anything, she told herself.

It had been two days since the Berserkir stepped through the mirror, two days since she lost her only link to her homeworld. Illusion, dream made real or not, it was the closest she was ever going to get of making a connection to the past. It had called for her in a way that triggered an instinct in her and her failure to protect it filled her with guilt. They were just shadows, she was told, just reflections; but she knew that was not true. It couldn’t be.

Kam was back to his old ways and Ofelia made herself sparse as she always did, taking to the streets to explore the city once more. She had probably covered every inch of it at one point or another, but today she found herself wandering to the scene of the battle that took place not too long ago. Now the scene was cleaned up, it was hard to believe that a Wraith had caused so much damage.

Golden eyes scanned the area, then caught sight of something glistening. The brunette investigated and picked up a shard of glass on the ground, the shard that Castor had cast on her feet when they had their confrontation. She held the piece in her hand and smiled; nothing made any sense anymore.

Ofelia jumped as a sharp pain ran up her arm, blood ran across her palm as she dropped the glass fragment and it shattered into dust with the impact.

To say he'd been worried about her was an understatement.

He knew he had hurt her with his abrupt vanishing, but with being taken captive, he couldn't have looked for her, even if he wished to be able to. Ofelia wasn't weak by any means, but she was someone who he know was connected to both as Castor and as Elzo. It complicated matters. It complicated them a lot. He mused sometimes how he never managed to find himself in anything short of complicated relationships and nearly always it was by his own doing and choice.
He was the cat that would come back and wouldn't stay away.

Elzo's worry only brewed thicker with added guilt when he found she'd been put in the hospital. Castor? Castor was only allowed to feel bitterness of not being able to protect her. But what good was a senshi royal who had been born for battle at a battle that could only be fought with medicine and sleep? Useless, even if he had been there.

However there were more important matters to think on. Such as recalling a lover from a life long dead and seeing something he'd known only in memories. Not to mention, he'd have to talk with Remarque about the development. If Mirror senshi were starting to have their pasts used as tools that was a big risk. More, it was a gamble at best. Castor could sympathize their plight, but sympathy only went so far.
No memory was worth a life. He knew that all too well.

Haunting the area where the mirror wrath had been, Castor wanted to see what remained. What he'd not expected however was- A smile tugged at his lips, despite it all. Then, his smile vanished as he noticed the drop of something and the few specks of blood.
He moved before he realized that he was being stupid, that she didn't need him probably but still, he was at her side quickly enough, wings fanned out to descend from the building he'd been on gently.

"Let me see." Not even a hello, he realized it was terribly cold of him. He wanted to make sure she was alright.
He cursed himself for caring this much about her.

”Oh my God, it’s you.” She almost jumped out of her skin.

Ofelia’s heart jumped into her throat as he landed next to her. Castor had always had a habit of falling from the sky but had made it clear during his last visit that he was no longer going to do that. So why was he here now? She asked herself, no longer shocked, Ofelia just found herself very confused. They had said their goodbye, they had drawn a line under that chapter after they lay next to each other under two suns, never again - he had said and then disappeared. However here he was and she low key hated herself for being so relieved to see him.

Still, she could not shake the memory of a few nights ago, in the midst of a confrontation that he was unaware they had. He talked of Mjolnir, he talked of the past, of memories that had been lost to her. She wanted to ask him so much but knew she couldn’t - not in this form. ”I thought you were that monster people are talking about.” She let a melancholy smile spread across her face, explaining her jumpiness and hopefully opening a dialog about recent events. Golden eyes finally raised to look at him properly, to find the deep blue of his own.

Her smile suddenly became more genuine. “I’m fine.” She shook her head and held her injured hand to her chest, the wound throbbed but was no need for concern. “... are you?” She had noticed his scars when he had approached her during the battle, but was too preoccupied to really process the information. But now, as Ofelia, she was able to find out if he really was okay.

”You… do not have to tell me. I just…” She was just worried. She just cared more than she was willing to admit.

He felt terrible.

"I-" Words died in his throat as he tried to speak, to say something to just make up for what he'd done to her. to them. His fault. His mistake. Moth to a flame, Castor cared too much, and it was his weakness. Would always be his weakness.

"I am a monster. Or did you forget?" He smiled, false and broken. "I devoured you, though, I like to think it was not entirely unwanted." Heat in his gaze, he hated how easy it came to him, to flirting, to honey words and wanting to just act, pretend he hadn't abandoned. her.
"But I jest, the monster here was-" He sighed. It was pain and memories from a stolen lifetime. It hurt someone whom he had no relationship with save from a life they couldn't even remember. Still, he cared.

"The monster here was one of anguish. I did what was my duty." He left it at that, brushing white hair from his eyes as he tried his best to stand tall, to be as if it did not dredge up unwanted thoughts.
As if his heart hurt at the thoughts of Saga, and knowing the woman he saw was not the same, and she'd never know him, remember him. Remember them.

But it wasn't Saga or Majolnir before him, it was Ofelia. Sweet, kind, brilliant and brave Ofelia.
"You are not fine. Let me see it." He held out his hand huffing at her like one might an errant child.
"And I'm healing from a battle. I survived. I'm a prince remember? We're tougher to kill than others." But they could still be killed. They could still die.

"If you want to kiss them better however, I wouldn't object." He chuckled, trying to make light of it in the only way he knew how.

“No, I didn’t.” Ofelia could not contain her sigh at his statement, he really shouldn’t call himself a monster, a lot of people looked up to him, looked towards him for guidance. “But I don’t think you mean it, you just like to call yourself a monster because it dissociates you with your actions and their consequences. You can not blame a monster for its nature, right?” She knew how easy it was to blame chaos, blame circumstance and duty to defend actions even though they did not align with your moral compass. How easy it was to ignore your heart when you were clad in celestial armour with an unrecognisable face.

Her face flushed at his statement, eyes drifting to the side in an attempt to hide her embarrassment. He knew how to get a reaction from her, she cursed him for it. ”None of it was unwanted, I treasure those memories. Did you think I would regret it? Do you?” Ofelia lived with enough regret, her relationship with Castor was one thing she thought she got right. It did not end as tragically as the Prince might think; she had forgiven him for leaving before he ever left. That was the way it had to be, he could never care for her the way she cared for him.

She didn’t think Castor was a monster, even now. She folded her arms and smiled, taking a few steps forward, her words might have been harsh but they were not said with malice. In fact, there was a rather playful ring to her tone, her eyes remaining optimistic. She was happy to see him again. “I know you survived, but I asked if you were okay? You look… beaten up. Prince’s are not immune to pain, right?” Of Course they did, but she was sure he would have her think he didn’t. She reached out to him, resting a hand on his arm and stroking the broken and scarred skin.

She placed her other hand in his, red palm facing upwards. The glass had cut deep but she would be lying if she said it hurt, her illness had left her numb.

“Maybe I would have done not too long ago.” She shrugged, disgusted that she felt her heart flutter with even this innocent contact. Despite everything, there were still feeling there. “But I am actually seeing someone.” She admitted, wondering if it would be enough to halt his flirtations. She wanted nothing more but to hold him, to offer him some comfort. She did not know Castor well, but well enough to know he did not seem himself. The last time he met they were both so carefree and now burden weighed in his eyes. It made her heart ache to see him like this.

Mouth opened, mouth closed. She was too smart for her own good. Too observant. "Maybe. In the end it doesn't change that I did not act as I should have. I acted without thought, I acted base." He swallowed, adam's apple bobbing as he eyed her and made no attempt to be discrete with his gaze. It was all he'd take from her without permission he told himself. Stolen glance. Looks of wanting. He could take nothing else. He deserved nothing else.

That is what he wanted to think, to hold himself to in any event.

"I do not regret them. Our memories." He breathed, cursing his own weakness. His own heart. Love was such an easy thing for him. To care was second nature. Emotional, his brother called him. Because he was emotional was why he made a good leader. It was also why he made a terrible one.

"I would repeat that night over and over until the stars burned away to darkness if I could." He spoke in a hushed tone, as if it were a secret. He cared for her, wanted her, and yet they both knew it would not be. It would not last as they were. Two different worlds. Senshi and human.

"But time pressed on like a phantom, and pulls me back to my duty and fate. Even if the wake of our passions, we survive don't we?" He asked, trying to resist reaching past the veil of their unspoken understanding. Together would end in tragedy. It would break their own hearts.

He hummed at her hand, taking it in his, smile pulling at him as he took sight of the difference in the size of their hands.
"I like a little bit of pain. Keeps things exciting." Gently, he took her hand up-
And swept his tongue across the wound. A low hum leaving him.

"Does he satisfy you?" Castor looked at her directly, making sure she'd see his pointed attraction, a possessive man facing a rival for her affections.
"Or is he as monstrous as I am, wanting so much more than he should have?" He liked what he had with her as Elzo. But he knew Elzo was a figure. A fling. But if she saw him as more- as if Elzo could be someone to her, for her-

Even he questioned if Elzo was good enough for Ofelia.

"Do not question your actions after the event. Own it. As either a lesson or your will. Your confidence should never falter, not if you are going to achieve all your heart desires." The damage had been done. It was too late for regret, too late for apologies. Ofelia wanted nothing more than to bestow onto Castor the gift of faith; the faith she herself had in him. Even though he had stolen her one window to the past she could not resent him. He did what he thought was right and given the chance she knew he would do the same again. It was never going to end any other way.

She wanted to ask him so much.

"Wouldn't that be grand?" She smiled, eyes drifting as her gaze caught his own. Butterflies took flight in her stomach; she knew that look. Once upon a time she wanted nothing more than for him to look at her like that, now she did not know how to react. She had longed to see him again, but the guilt bubbling in her gut was making her question her own feelings. She found herself thinking about Elzo.

"I guess that is one way to look at it, but your wish for me was to live - not to just survive?" She would happily trade a long life for a short burst of joy. If her journey had taught her anything it was the value of happiness. She wanted to hold onto it as long as she could. More so she wanted Castor's life to be filled with laughter. She wanted him to find his own peace, to allow himself to be truly happy.

She did not flinch when he held her hand in his own, trying her best to remain composed. Though when his tongue ran across her palm she could not help but tense, instinctively trying to pull her hand away as he held it there. Honey coloured eyes stared into his, she ran her fingers across his lips, smearing the warm liquid onto his chin and cheek. Breath caught in her chest as she was once again so easily caught in his web, would she ever be able to resist his charms?

She knew he liked pain. It showed in the way they played their game of cat and mouse. He was so sure it would end badly but pursued her none the less. She could not deny that she was happy that he questioned her relationship, she did not think it would phase him, that he would care that she had moved on. "He wakes up next to me in the morning, we walk down the streets together. He knows who my family were and the talents I hide. I do not know what he wants really, he has been hurt and I think he carries that with him, though he has never tried to hide the fact or be dishonest with his intentions. He is a good man, more than I deserve."

She sighed, she had convinced herself that she had moved on. That she had said her goodbye and let him go, but now he was here she knew that she had been lying to herself. She would never truly rid Castor from her heart, no matter how hard she tried.

"I am sorry I let you leave with such little resistance. You know I would have followed you anywhere if you allowed it."

He watched her for a moment, thinking over her words. She didn't say Elzo, name her beau by name yet who else had she seen? Who else did she sleep besides? None that he knew of. God he-

He was toxic. Obsessive. He was baiting her as another man, another face. Why? So he could break things off as Elzo? Something he liked, enjoyed, could have? Sabotage his own love life. Gods above, he really was messed in the head.
He could really have a life with someone if only he was willing to give himself the chance.

She'd chastise him if she could hear his thoughts.

"Yes, I wanted you to do more than survive. It's a shell of existing, true enough. Still, I am greedy." He smiled, kissing bloody palm before setting it against his face like an affectionate cat.
"I'm full of sin and temptation. For myself, for you, for so many others. I want you even now. I want to submit to my weakness in my heart, to take you with me down this path of mutual destruction. I am not a good man. I pretend to be, but really, I'm not. Corruption is not always born of chaos." He whispered both at her and to no one.

"Your new lover is lucky to have you. I will envy him. But he is cruel to not tell you his wants. Or-" He chuckled, Elzo hadn't a clue what he wanted. He didn't know if he ever would and while the current situation suited just fine? It wouldn't last forever.
"-Have you not asked him?" A small mirth lit his tone.
"Loyalty is not a one way street. Your devotion deserves nothing but the same in kind. Not that I am an expert on such matters." He was more a snake.

"But your love life isn't all that's bothering you is it?" He could ask what Elzo could not. Why did she still wander, if she had the potential for peace and stability in front of her. He kissed her hand again, tongue sweeping the last of the red away before he brushed his fingers to his blood stained cheek.
"I mean, I can solve one need, and while I cannot fill another, the least I might do is listen. I owe you that much after all I've pressed upon you."

"No, I guess I haven't." Maybe she was afraid to ask Elzo what he wanted, that doing so would ruin what they had. She knew his boundaries and she always tried her best not to push him beyond the point he was comfortable. She would rather tread sensitively then ask too much of him. Ofelia did care for Elzo and knew he cared for her in his own way; if what they had now was all they would ever share, then she was happy with just that.

"I do not think that is true." She shook her head at his words. "If you only give what you receive then how will anything change? It is my prerogative how much I am willing to invest, what return I see as fair and how much value I put on people and relationships." Just because someone showed no mercy did not mean they did not deserve it, that someone cruel was not deserving of kindness. How was one to come and understand concepts like devotion and loyalty if they had not experienced it? If they did not see themselves as deserving of it. She wanted to scold him but held her tongue.

It was hard to concentrate on the conversation when he was pressing his lips against her hand, her heart jumping in her chest at the sudden affection. She had started her relationship with Elzo like she planned to carry on and she had never questioned that choice. She had told him once that if given the choice she would not revisit her past flame, now she was questioning if that was true.

She shook her head and stepped forward, reaching up to run her free hand through white strands, pressing her forehead against his own. It was true that something was bothering her but she could not share that burden with him, Mjolnir would have to walk that path alone. "You do not owe me anything. All I have ever wanted from you is that you find peace. For what it is worth I am fine, I am happy and for the first time in a long time; I am not alone. And it is all thanks to you." And she hoped that information would be enough to put his mind at ease, even just a little. He had always worried about her, always looked out for her like a guardian angel.

If anything it was she who owed him.

"I love you." She whispered, knowing that he deserved to know that much. Even though she knew he could not return those feelings; it did not mean he was undeserving of them. "But if this is really what you wish for me, let me go back to him. Don't make me betray my word. I know you are a good man and you wouldn't make me a liar." She would have given anything to be able to press her lips against his, but knew that their time had ended that night on Castor.

She would not lead him down the path of self-destruction, she would not let him go back on the promise he had made himself. She was bad for him and letting him give in to his temptations would only result in heartache. Result in everything that she wanted to protect him from. She was a creature of chaos, the true monster of the pair and she would not drag him further into the dark.

He could have wept of the irony of it all. She saw the worst of him and still saw his light. His hope that maybe he wasn't as awful or terrible as he thought of himself as. She was too good for him. Him as both Castor and as Elzo.

She deserved better than him.
He should have tried harder to be better for her.

But- As their foreheads touched he whispered his own confession to her.
"I loved a woman once, and when I let her go to fulfill her destiny, I wept in solitude, because our fates could not be changed. I wept because we could have been great. She was a king, and she was for a time, the only one who saw me as more than a prince who was born to serve his people."

He leaned into her touch, eyes closing as he tried to remember what had happened here.
"And now she lives again but will never remember me. She will never remember my love for her. I do not fear the loss of someone in my life- I fear my love forgotten, that those I love with suffer for my love of them. It is my curse."

Kyra.
Saga.
Lina.

And now Ofelia.

"Do not say you love me. Do not tell me that truth. Love this other man. Love him, ask him for his heart in kind. I was the death of the woman I loved once already in this life." He sank to his knees before her, wanting to hear something unkind. Something so he might let go. Turn away.

"I know the man you love and he would love you if you asked it of him. He would devote his heart to you. Go to him, be with him. Kiss him and confess to him and demand his answer of heart. Castor, if my name be Leonis, Galenos, Apollon, E-" He choked on his own voice.

It had been so long. So long since he'd said his own name while powered. To when he'd admitted who he was to someone.
He loved her.
He loved this woman and wanted to see her thrive and grow and smile and be happy and he was afraid. Afraid because he had never known a love who's heart he hadn't broken in some way.

"I would not have you be my second Saga. Go to the man you love and would give you his love if you asked it of him. I will always watch over you and pine for what I cannot have. But if you love him, if he makes you happy, then I will not ask for stolen touches or kisses. I will not ask for midnight trysts. If you must love me, then run from me and my shadow. Go to his arms and demand his love. Let him embrace you and love you and find your destiny."
He hated himself. His heart.

"I love you Ofelia, and I wish I could give you all you deserve and more."

She did not understand why he was telling her this. He had called her the Berserker king, he had called her Saga and now he was confessing his love for her without knowing that she was stood before him. She could not remember him, nor the time they had spent together, but just knowing that they once existed was cruel. She wanted to tell him everything, ask him to help her, but doing so would mean losing everything he had given her. It meant giving up Elzo in the process.

Purify me. The words were stuck on her lips. Help me remember.

As he spoke she would feel a burn in her throat, fighting back tears that she refused to let fall. Still, her eyes shone unnaturally under the moist veil that covered them. He talked of the people he had lost, the woman who he had loved in this life and she wanted nothing more but to comfort him. To hold him close and take the pain away, but maybe doing so would be the cruellest thing she could do. He fell before her and she did not look down to him in case it made her will falter.

A string of names, a string of names that had her pressing her hands to her ears and shaking her head. No, she could not know his names. He could not trust her with that because knowing it would mean he would disappear. He would end up with nothing like she once had. Leonis and Galenos were the only names she heard with any clarity.

She would never be his second Saga, but she was his first. Another reason why this was wrong. If she was just human she would stay with him, if danger was the only thing separating them she would accept it. But there was more, so much that put a wedge between them and he did not know the half of it. She would not allow herself to be with him if it meant lying to him. She could not burden him with Mjolnir.

She took a deep breath to steady herself. She was good at it, putting on a blank expression and fighting back bubbling emotions. Pretending she was okay when she was anything but. The Ice Queen of Crystal Academy did not earn her title without reason. Her aura had been cold for as long as she could remember and now she had to wear that armour in front of the person who had helped her break it down.

She did not touch him, she did not utter a word in case it would be her undoing. In case that the words would not stop if they started, in case she reached out to him and found it impossible to let go. This was for the best. She did not tell him that a Prince should not kneel, she did not scold him for being unfair and talking badly about himself, she did not argue that it was she who did not deserve him. Though she wanted to.

She took a step backwards with unsteady legs, trying to concentrate on nothing more than putting one foot in front of the other.

And it was not long before it turned into a sprint.
