Alexandra liked swimming.

It was an all-body work out and a fantastic way to cool off after a sparring or training session. What she didn't like was how difficult it was to find a practical swimsuit because she swam more for sport than leisure and two pieces were incredibly frown upon by the dark haired woman, for herself.

She hardly cared what other women wore as long as they weren't more exposed than they would be in their underwear.

Normally, she preferred the lanes that indoor swimming pools provided but there was a lake. A lake that was specifically available for swimming and well -

Alexandra didn't allow herself too many simple pleasures so she sure wasn't going to pass up on this one. Not having to deal with chlorine hair was definitely worth the lack of consistency in depth and structure. So, the young woman trekked toward the lake.

The day was nice, not overly warm but the sun still bright and shining in the blue sky above. She'd brought a towel, a book, and was dressed in a tanktop and shorts over her swimsuit. It wasn't until she found an unoccupied spot, mostly away from anyone else that might've been at the lake, that she toed off her shoes and peeled off her clothing. Instinctively she folded the shirt and shorts neatly, setting the beside her towel and the water bottle she brought for hydration.

Then, she took to the water like a fish.

Theo told herself it was simple professional curiosity that drove her down to the lake. But she'd be lying to herself and she knew it. She simply wanted a swim and hey, if she got to quietly study the lake's little ecosystem, she was fine with that.

She was actually hoping to see some life that wasn't human in the water. And, really, the way she figured it, the gods would be pretty dumb to not take care of whatever land they claimed. She didn't think the gods were that dumb. At least, she really hoped they weren't.

When she arrived at the shore, she dropped her things near someone else's neatly folded clothing and peeled off her own long t-shirt, revealing a fairly sensible tankini. Leaving her things in a small pile, she pulled her swim goggles up from where they'd been dangling around her neck. Then, pulling her hair back into a ponytail, she ran for the water, heedless of whoever else might be in there.

Alex had dived beneath the lake surface when Theo had arrive and therefore missed her appearance on the lake shore. She didn't, however, miss the ripple in the water, body twisting instinctively and blue eyes darted about the dark water. Uncertain of whether it was a creature or another person, the brunette swam to the surface.

She burst through in a splash of waves, hand shifting in the water to keep her afloat as she spun herself in a slow circle.

Not too far from her, she spotted another woman had joined her. The mild panic that'd risen subsided quickly and Alex took a moment to watch the way the girl swam.

Enjoying the sun-warmed water, Theo swam until she reached a point where the water would be deep enough to dive. Treading water, she made sure her goggles were tight before giving herself a little jump and going under. She saw legs nearby and, for a moment, was tempted to swim over and tweak them. Just to see a reaction. But no. She had professional curiosity to satisfy first.

And given how, at first inspection, she couldn't see anything that could cause worry, she headed for the surface. As her head broke water she blew out and began laughing. Seeing the owner of the legs she'd spotted, Theo waved in a friendly, if slightly non-commital, manner.

"Yo."

The woman who'd joined her in the lake was infinitely more friendly that her, but that wasn't hard. Alexandra had never met a person who would have classified her as friendly or even pleasant. She wasn't rude, usually, but she was blunt, no-nonsense, and admittedly judgmental.

Still, she often tried to be polite for the most part depending on the circumstances and well - Theo was cheerfully greeting her.

It took longer than it should have for her to respond, blue eyes blinking slowly as she met the gaze of the other swimmer. There wasn't too much distance between them so she, thankfully, didn't need to raise her voice.

"Hello." Short and to the point, as Alex often was.

A beat and then -

"Alexandra, or Alex. Of Athena."

Treading water, Theo slid her goggles up onto her forehead and looked faintly amused by the pause before the other woman introduced herself. Of course, if she, herself, wasn't up to her neck in a lake, she'd probably be a bit hesitant to talk too.

"Theodosia, prefer Theo. Poseidon," she said, deciding that she appreciated Alex's short, sweet and to the point greeting. Still, she couldn't keep some of the glee out of her voice as she waved an arm around lazily. "Isn't this the greatest? I mean, the only thing better would be access to the Pacific. I've never seen such a clean lake before either."

Smiling, she leaned back until she was floating. She'd have to get out eventually, but she'd worry about that later.

"Athena, huh? That going to cause a problem with us interacting, d'you think? I don't exactly recall any stories where they didn't hate each other."

"Unique." She commented with a slight tilt of her head. "Do you know the origin?" Theodosia was not a name that Alex was familiar with and while there was a tugging feeling of familiarity with the name, she couldn't place it. Her own name was mundane both the first, Alexandra, and the middle, Victoria.

"Never had time to go to any of the lakes back home this is a nice alternative to swimming in the pool." The brunette agreed, casting blue eyes around the lake. The water was a nice color and she could see her legs as they kicked beneath her.

"I doubt who our patron gods are will effect how our relationships develop." Alex herself preferred to make her judgements based upon the person and not the god who had chosen them. "It appeared to be a relatively isolated event, revolving around Athens."

Her hands spread out before her as she treaded water, sending ripples towards her swimming companion. "Different deities suit different individuals." It was that simple to Alex, like the branches of military. Different ones suited different people.
