HIT POINTS

All heros start with 50 HP.

ATTACK

To attack an opponent, everyone rolls 1d6, and multiplies their base damage [determined by your weapon] according to the following attack rolls:
1 - miss
2 - 50% damage
3 - 50% damage
4 - 100% damage
5 - 100% damage
6+ - 200% damage

DEFENSE

You can defend yourself or another player by giving up your attack roll and instead rolling 1d4.
The result determines how much of the final damage of the next attack against that target is taken

1 - Failure. They take 100% damage.
2 - Mild success. They take 50% damage.
3-4 - Success. They take no damage.

Each of you can pick up one practice weapon of any type for the purpose of your spar. You can switch weapons between spars; there's a wide array of options for your character to play with.

Advanced Dummy - Advanced dummies have 75 HP. They also launch small bolts that hit you for 5 HP every time you attack them. They should be fought at least in pairs.

Lawrence was not a fighter. He'd spent a great deal of his life avoiding it in fact, not a creature of physical exertion but of luxury and hedonism instead. He'd avoided fighting as a child, even in the playground, preferring a drama or music room to the course scuffles of his peers. As a vet he'd had to deal with a little more unruly things and a bit of getting scratched and bitten, but nothing like a fight. He intended to continue on in the same rather avoidant vein even in his present line of work, but still was not one to pass up learning important skills going forward, he was proud but not so proud as to cripple himself.

So he texted the only person here who he knew in any way at all, however faintly, and waited by the dummies to see if he'd arrive, slipping on a set of cat-like claws onto his hands with a pleased grin. He liked these.

Monsters were real.

Rodney knew that. He believed in demons. He thought some cryptozoology had merit. Most of all, he knew that people were capable of much worse than an animal with one set of teeth. But here, they meant it in...he was sure, the classical sense. Was that it? Swept into a world of...hydras, and minotaurs, and sirens. Those who were cast out in defiance of the gods...demons by another name? Or...just...people. By another name. A name that made it easy to...

Rodney swallowed as he approached the training fields, giving Jan a shy, "Hi." He knew him from online, although they'd often argue.

Jan already had a weapon in hand.

"The greeks believed in sacrifice," Rodney said, approaching the rack of rows and rows of weapons. All he felt was fear. Not of the field. The strange effigy on the field wasn't afraid. It wouldn't bleed. He could barely bring himself to touch the sharp edges, or even the brutally flat ones. He unhooked a monstrous shield from the wall instead, arms straining, but bringing it down with surprising control. "They said they'd give us gifts. Do you think...they called us here to die?"

There was a zap of electricity in response, and Rodney barely had enough time to haul the shield around in front of Lawrence.

"It's always death with you lately." he said with a splayed hand gesture. "Look, no one is going to die, not if I have any say in it. I haven't died till now and I intend to have at least another good fifty years in me, probably more. I just talk to spirits, I'm not going to become one right now and they'd warn me if it was on the cards. The greeks believed in a lot nicer things too than just sacrifice."

It almost annoyed him how morbid the other man was, and he had to put it down to the effect of religion on a psyche over time. "If they want me to die, I'm out of here."

For someone who bordered on the bumbling and ponderous most of the time in his movements, it was startling how fast Jan rounded on the dummy as it sparked him with electricity. It was almost feline the way he shifted from a slightly confused man with a set of awkward claws to a very intent and precise focus which just so happened to have razor talons.

Moving behind Rodney's shield as much as he could, he raked the talons with sharp intent across the surface of the training dummy.

"What...what was that? It's shooting at us," Rodney whispered urgently as another loud crack of energy burst from the dummy.

He cuddled closer to the back of the shield.

"We sh-should back off the field- Jan, be careful!"

His heart was beating like a cornered rabbit.

"A training dummy I think." the pale man said, every swipe of the new claws accompanied by a clatter of bangles. "It didn't hurt all that much. Like...never mind what it is like." He wasn't about to try and explain something to Rodney that both belonged in the bedroom and was very specialist in nature.

At least the shield Rodney was hiding behind was useful even if he wasn't so much and Jan nimbly used it to duck behind and avoid taking another hit from a spark.

"It's not even alive, what are you afraid of?"

And then he hissed with pain as the dummy caught his arm, the one that wasn't behind the shield and made him flinch with surprise.

"Being electrocuted?!" Rodney said in a normal tone of voice, which was basically a shout.

"You...you know those cartoons. Of knights fighting dragons. And the knight holds up a shield, but, a knight can't actually...fight a flamethrower, so he just cooks inside his armor? They show a funny black pile of ash. That's us. If this is training then that's us."

Rodney got a very very flat look from Jan for his comment. "I'm not afraid of a bit of electricity." he said, "It wasn't that bad when it hit me a minute ago, hardly a tazer sting. You are so pessimistic, I'm always concerned it's contagious." he shook his head.

"And I'm not a knight, I'm not wearing armour, you aren't either, nor is this a cartoon so we are all completely safe. If it was a a cartoon and something was going to kill us whatever "god" brought us here would interrupt with some sort of intervention. If you want to apply ridiculous rules to one thing, you might as well apply them to all of them. "

He sunk his claws into the dummy again with a slight furrowing of his brows.

"I'm not that bad at this." he protested. "No one is dying, I'm fine."

"...P-protected by god," This seemed to sober Rodney some.

"I mean. Maybe, if all this...I mean, that could be us. But. I haven't seen anyone on the grounds shooting fireballs."

He leaned against the enormous shield.

"Y-yet."
