They were lost. That was the only explanation as she not longer felt Desher's vibrations near her. Now she was starting to panic a little. Although she could travel by herself and did so just fine she was never too far from the tawny male. Now she had no clue as to where he was. His scent blared out by all the other scents she was getting. The sound almost too much for her as she tried to focus.
"Oh Desher. Where are you?" She felt hopeless. How in the world had they gotten so seperated anyway. He was the one with the eyes!
She smelt something familiar, was that Desher? "Desher!?" She called out. The blind leading the seeing... That way she had said. Should have been just a straight shot really.

They had started out on their journey to find a new home. Desher had walked beside his mate, letting her guide where they went, since she knew where she wanted to go and he'd simply kept her from stumbling into any hazards. Like the thorny bush, or the crack that could trip the unwary.
It had been a single moment of inattention on his part, and Desher knew it. Something had distracted him and when he turned back his beautiful mate was gone. They were no longer in familiar territory where he could relax and know Lani would show back up when she was ready. This was serious!
"Lani! Lani!" He tried calling for her several times. Her hearing was quite excellent. If she was nearby she'd have heard him. Without a forthcoming reply, Desher started to desperately track his mate.

Did she hear the faintest sound of his voice? She swore she did heading towards the direction of her mate then stopped and turned around back towards the direction they should be going. No he'd have to come to her or else she'd lose the direction she was going and then all of this would be one giant wild chase.
"Desher! This way. Come to my voice!" She yelled, trying to catch the attention of her wandering mate. "I'm over here!" Males sometimes. Distracted by new things. Although she couldn't completely blame him, this was new for him. This area felt new to her too. She could have passed through this way once but she couldn't quite remember. It had been so long since she had come back this way that things changed and evolved.

Tracking was something he knew well. It was much harder in the desert with the shifting sands that made it hard to hold prints and scents. Here it was fairly easy. A toe print there, her scent on a leaf. Desher was positive he could find his mate. Nose to the ground he followed the clues. After a short time he thought he heard her calling. It was wise of her to stand still and let him come to her! Who knew what she could run into out here.
"I'm coming Lani! Keep talking!" Able to hear her now, he picked up his pace, not having to rely on scents or paw prints in the ground. Unfortunately sound could bounce and lead him away too. He still kept his eye out for traces of her passing, a scuffed patch or broken twig.

She could hear him now. "Desher over here!" She called out to him. He should be able to track her now. "Desher!" How was it that they had gotten so lost, she was only somewhat grumpy at her mate for having disappeared on her. Though this was all new for him, as a lion who grew up in the sand she couldn't be that angry at him.
The female could sense he was getting closer now. Her mate senses were tingly. "Desher?" She asked, curious if her senses were right. "That you?"

With relief he could hear her voice growing louder. He was heading in the right direction! "Don't move! I'm coming to you. Keep talking Lani!" If she stopped, he could loose her again! "What's your favorite sound?" Anything to keep her going. Desher shoulder through the bush determined to reach her sooner rather than later.
Not long after he heard her call his name just to his right. "Lani!" He bounded through the last few brushes to land beside her. "Lani!" Desher clamped his jaws on the words he was about to say. Telling his blind mate to 'watch where she was going' was not a good idea. "Are you ok?" He asked lamely instead.

"You big oaf." Though the words came out with fits of laughter to show she really wasn't all that angry at him for losing her. "I can't believe you got lost! I was going in the right direction the whole time and you got lost. You have the eyes!" Lovingly chiding the other even though she wasn't all that angry. "Did you at least see anything good while you were bumbling around for me?" As she came up to him and nuzzled his body. They probably had another day or so before they reached where they were going. They had already trekked quite a long distance from the desert.
"Also my favorite sound is your voice." She added as she stepped away from him and padded a bit further in the direction they were to be going. "I think maybe if you just keep heading in this direction a bit in front of me we won't get lost. Then you can be my eyes up front and I won't have to strain my senses to much."

The tan male puffed up pretend indignation. "Lost? I didn't get lost. I looked away for just a second and you left me. Left me!" Desher was very much relieved to find her whole and hale. He pretended to pause to consider if he'd seen anything good. "Weeeeeeell, maybe I did." He teased her. He rested his head over her shoulders and purred.
Desher cleared his throat a couple times. She liked his voice? He felt hot under his pelt, and was glad she couldn't see the flush that probably covered his face. Hopefully she wouldn't sense it by the other means she had. "How about we stop early for the night?" The male moved hesitantly up. "Only problem with this is I can't see you. How will I know your behind me?" He didn't mind watching out for hazards, but he didn't want to lose her again.

She might have left him? Now she was doubting herself but she shook her head to clear the thoughts. Night would fall on them and with her dark pelt, she knew it was a dark pelt, she would be camouflaged. She could tell even her little words had caused the male to flush, how funny that he still did that despite them being together. It was good though.
"How about if I hold your tail fluff in my maw." She said. It was a decent idea and she would be careful not to bite down to hard. And he could lead her.

"How do I know you won't try to nibble on that tail?" He teased her. "At least it might work until we find a good spot to rest." Bemusedly he brushed his tail against her and waited until she had a fair grip. Then he set out with an eye for a spot they could bed down for the night. It said something that she was willing to allow herself to be led by him. Never had he been so grateful she was his mate.

Making a scoffing she took the tail in her mouth and allowed him to lead her like such. The dark female thought about possibly munching down just for the heck of it but he was right they would need to find safety and making him stop for any reason was a bad idea. So she just graciously let him lead her about by tail. This might make for an interesting tale as well one day.
