Blade opened up a large bag and carefully pulled his fencing foil from it. It was recess and he was sitting at at the boundaries of the playground. He hadn't been able to prepare his practice sword the night before due to some sort of silly fight with his sister over a hair brush and how she had to have their parents search his and Rogue's room for it before finding it under the same sister's pillow. He was still annoyed about it and yawned as he took out his cleaning tools, beginning to shine the sword's hilt.

Foundry was sketching his latest shield design on the playground in a small sketchbook he usually kept on hoof in a small pouch tied to one of his legs. The shield has a basic shape, but it was the proposed engraving upon it that made it unique. The little colt had sketched a wolf mid pounce as if it was about to come off of the paper. With pursed lips, Foundry tapped his pencil against the corner of the paper. While the focal point of the shield was perfect, he wasn't quite sure what to do for the border.
With a sigh the little pegasus looked up from his work and his eyes were quickly greeted by the familiar flash of metal in the sunlight. Mouth agape he stumbled across the playground towards the weapon. How the other colt had snuck a sword into school he'd never know. He was sure the teacher would never allow something so dangerous, but there it was in all it's glory. The blade shone brilliantly, but as Foundry gazed upon it he noted that it was rather plain looking in appearance.
"He-hey. Is that yours?"

"Hm?" Blade looked up at the blue and purple colt who seemed to be in awe of his weapon. His wings puffed up proudly. "Yes, this is my foil, her name is Fiora." He offered his weapon to the other. "Here, be careful though. The blade isn't sharp but it's sort of delicate." Blade bit his bottom lip a little nervously like a mother who just offered her newborn child to be held by someone else for the first time.

Foundry accepted the blade, looking at it with interest. He turned it over in his hooves, inspecting the simple hilt, then held it out to check the balance and the detailing on the cross guard. It was a decent blade, although given it was a fencing foil meant the blade was too thin to engrave any designs on. Anything put on them would simply weaken the metal and go unnoticed due to the small size.
"She's well made," he murmured, less concerned about safety now that he new the edges were dull. "Is there a reason you don't have a design on the hilt?"

Blade's nose crinkled. "I've..never thought about it before honestly.." He looked at his weapon in the other's hooves thoughtfully. "I wonder what sort of design would look best.."

"Ah, well..." He gulped, "I could maybe help with that?" He pulled out his sketchbook and thrust it towards the other colt. Maybe, just maybe the other boy would like his designs and let him actually carve for someone other than himself for once. Plus it was a real weapon! Not something made entirely of cheap wood or foam. He ducked his head, giving the other foal a bashful look. Maybe. Maybe he would say yes.

"Hmmm.." Blade took his time, flipping through the book and looking at each design a long moment before going to the next. "These are..pretty good actually." He handed the book back to the other colt and clutched his sword tightly. He was nervous, no one had really laid hoof on Fiora cept for himself and his coach. "Well..your designs are good but..." stood, foil clutched to his chest. "If..if you're going to do this I want brand new never used design before..something you make that reflects my spirit. If..if you can do that..." with a waver in his leg, he held his precious weapon out towards Foundry.

"R-really?" Foundry flushed with excitement, wings flapping with joy. The other colt was going to let him do it! His first commission! The pegasus was practically beaming. Oh he could just picture the final product now, something elegant to match the sleek form of the blade. It was going to be perfect.
"A new design? Yeah! Sure!" One that reflected the other colt's spirit though... The foal chewed on the inside of his cheek. He didn't really know the other foal well, but he'd definitely try his best. He already had so many ideas, surely one of them would match the aura of a phony cool enough to fence.
"Uh, I can have it back to you at the end of the week if that's ok?"

It was a Monday already..a week without Fiora?! The very notion nearly made him change his mind. "Y..yes. End of the week sounds fine." He tried keep a confident look on his face even though he felt like crying. "Take good care of her please."

The week had passed by quickly and Foundry had drawn up and trashed many designs before he finally settled on one he liked for the blade. His finally designs was a floral motif inspired by the sword's own name, Fiora, rather than by the personality of the owner like Blade had asked. The little pegasus had bitten his hooves anxiously as he struggled to capture the colt's essence, but he just simply didn't know the other child well enough. So, instead he'd carved vines wrapping around the handle with thorns and small blossoms.
And now it was the time of reckoning. Maybe Blade would like it, but, Foundry feared, probably he would hate it.

The week had been equally terrifying for Blade. Practicing with the provided practice swords and not his beloved Fiora made him feel scandalous and like he was committing infidelity. At night before bed, he wondered if Foundry was taking good care of his foil and if she was polished properly and worried if she'd been bent in some way. The day of reckoning came, and Blade arrived early, sword case and cleaning instruments in hoof. His heart was hammering in his chest and anxiously walked in circles.

It didn't take long for Foundry to spot the other colt on the playground. With a gulp he watched the other boy's nervous pacing and he could feel his chest tighten with anxiety. Here was the moment of truth. There was no turning back. What was done was done and as far as Foundry knew there was no way to uncarve wood.
Squeezing his eyes shut, he held out the fencing foil to it's proper owner with two hooves. "Here Blade," he squeaked.

Blade snatched Fiora from Foundry and clutched her to his chest. Ahh he felt complete again. After a few long moments of quality time, the colt extended his blade out and began to examine the engraving on the hilt. "Hmm..hmm.." he examined the work done. "It's well done but....flowers and vines? Do I really exude such a spirit? Seems more fitting for one of my sisters.." he frowned a little.

Foundry was just about to let out a sigh of relief until Blade commented on how his personality wasn't particularly flowery.
"Yes, err... Ummm" The pegasus fidgeted nervously and stared down at his hooves. Well, he had to admit it. He had to admit his cowardice and his failure to comply with the other foal's request. "Well, no. I'm sorry, but i don't really know you well enough, so i based the design on the it's name, Fiora. I know that's not what you wanted. Do you hate it?"

Blade examined the patterning. He took out his polishing kit and after a few moments work, shined the hilt up to a mirror finish. Looking at the work again, he turned to Foundry. "I won't lie, this isn't what I wanted.." he looked at his foil. "But, this, this is just perfect for Fiora." He smirked. "Good job Foundry. And hey, thanks for being honest.."
