Getting a chance to go anywhere by herself was rare, for Hayley, and she supposed that was because her parents were worried. With Cait, and now Alex, missing, it wasn't like they had no reason - but Hayley was twelve, going on thirteen, well and grown up enough to walk a few blocks to a convenience store and pick up some milk and a few other small things. She'd argued, wheedled, begged, and eventually promised to send a text when she got there and one when she left to let them know when to expect her home.
She was most of the way there when she spotted the cat, a big fluffy thing wearing a chef's hat.
There are things people are not meant to resist, and one of them, at least for Hayley, was definitely a big, fluffy, adorable cat in an adorable hat.
"Hey there, pretty kitty!" She said, walking over and bending down to extend her hand. "Aren't you gorgeous?"

Ah. Those were words that never ceased to make Julienne feel as though she was some gift from the cosmos itself. Aren’t you gorgeous? It was so funny how those three words, that simple question could make you feel warm inside, and make you feel ten feet tall. Yes. Yes she was gorgeous. She was indeed gorgeous. Thanks for noticing. But what part did you like best? Was it her baby blue eyes? Or her thick, rich brown fur?
Or her stylish hat, that was a wonderful thing too, after all.
Often times too much praise could go to your head, or make you do stupid things. This time it did both.
“Why yes! I am gorgeous, I am the most beautiful cat in the world, thanks for noticing!” The Siberian moved at once into the hand, nuzzling her head against it and emitting a loud purr. “It is very nice of you to say such things.”

Hayley made a noise of surprise, taking half a step back when she realized that the only place the voice she'd just heard could possibly be coming from was the cat.
A talking cat.
"Oh. You. You talk," she said, eyes wide. "I...how?" Still, she moved to pet the cat, because she was still a cat, talking or not, and she obviously desired the attention, and frankly it was either pet the cat or horribly panic. Something distinctly weird was happening, and her choices were "freak" or "roll with it."
She was choosing "roll with it."

“Oh, magic of course. I’m a special kind of cat. A cat with a mission, a cat sent to help guide those who can protect this world from the evil that inhabits it.” Julienne pushed herself closer to the gentle, petting fingers and continued her loud purring once her words were gone. Yes, yes this human was a good one. A nice human who didn’t jump or start screaming or anything.
Talking cats weren’t that rare at all around this city…honestly, it still surprised Julienne how few people really even bothered to know about them still. There were dozens upon dozens of senshi and knights…one of these days she was bound to run in to someone who would just know about guardian cats, even if they weren’t a senshi or a knight themselves…
The Siberian paused, taking a good look at Hayley. Well. She might not be a senshi yet…but she could be. She had the potential. How wonderful. Julienne had all the luck.

"You're a magic cat." Hayley said, slowly. Well, alright, that was. Something. She supposed she had to accept the reality of magic, because nothing else made more sense.
Actually, if magic was real, a lot of things made a lot of sense.
"That is something special," the girl said. "I'm Hayley. What's your name?" Best to be polite.

“My name is Julienne…tell me, Hayley…would you like to be magic too? You have the ability to be…and that’s pretty special, at least I think! The world doesn’t have that many people who have the ability of magic…Would you like me to unlock it for you? We could use a nice girl like you on our side of things!”
The cat hesitated and shook herself out, wiggling her butt for a moment before leaping into the air and doing a rather lopsided backflip. A henshin pen clattered to the ground by her feet when she landed and using a paw the guardian slid it towards the green haired girl. “Well, if you don’t want it, I understand. It’s a lot of responsibility, and well, I would understand…but if you want to give it a try, this is for you. All you have to do is think about the magic in you and say ‘Xenia Power, Make up!’. You have the power of the senshi of Etiquette! That is quite adorable, but it seems to fit what I’ve seen of you…but again, if you don’t want to get involved, I completely understand!”
This girl would be a chibi senshi, she could tell just by the power she felt coming from her. A lot of people resented those who awakened chibis but, after seeing how well her own Lenka had gone, and…
Lenka was always adamant that chibis were the ones who would take over eventually, and that was true. Everything was true. And somewhat sad.
With a sigh Julienne looked up at the girl. “So, what do you say, Hayley? Will you let me help you become magic, just like me? You can help save the world!”

Hayley's entire face lit up. She might not have been a little kid anymore, at twelve-almost-thirteen, but magic still had a powerful allure, and so did the promise of being special. She had potential, and Julienne was saying it in a way that was wonderfully different from the sighing implications of parents and teachers. This was potential that Julienne seemed to 100% believe Hayley could achieve.
"Yes, please, yes," she said, eyes wide and excited, watching as the cat did her little flip and produced the magic pen. As soon as it was presented in front of her, she reached down to take it, turning it over in her hands.
Yes, this was it, this was right, it was awesome. This was what she needed to fight back, to stop her family from getting hurt - to keep whatever had happened to Alex and Cait from happening to Lila or Thali or her parents or, she guessed, herself.
"I say," she grinned, and then twirled the pen, "Xenia power, make up!'
And in a flash of sparkles and a ballet twirl, the new Chibi stood proud and bright-eyed, magically transformed.

Julienne watched the transformation and purred loudly at its conclusion. “You did it! Xenia, you did it! Welcome! You are now Chibi Sailor Xenia, Senshi of Etiquette.” She studied the chibi’s fuku and nodded to herself. “You have magic now, and in order to access it…call out the words ‘ask nicely’, that should be what calls your power to you. You’re stronger now, and faster, and since you’re a chibi senshi…which is basically a senshi in training, you are faster than most. It is a great skill to have which will keep you safe.”
The guardian moved closer to the new senshi, rubbing her furry body against the young girl’s legs, continuing to purr. “No matter what people may say, there is nothing wrong with being a chibi. My senshi, her name is Lenka…she was a chibi senshi for years, but she worked very hard and now she is one of the strongest people I know. If you would like to meet her, I know she can help you become even stronger than you can imagine. You see…”
She hesitated and finally decided to go on. Perhaps this was saying too much, but she had already started so. “People think since you’re younger, you’re not as strong, and you shouldn’t have been brought into the fight. Lenka and I disagree, and we will do whatever we can to make sure you stay safe, as well as all of the other chibi senshi in the city. You are able to be as strong as the other senshi, you just have to work a little harder for it, but I believe in you!”

Xenia nodded along with the directions the cat gave her, bouncing a little in her new high-heeled boots. (She'd never worn heels before; that was sort of exciting in and of itself.) She couldn't keep a grin off her face, and she bent a little to stroke Julienne's fur, excitement thrumming through her.
Of course, it was tempered a little by Julienne explaining that there would be people who would judge her for her age, but...there were always people like that. People who didn't want to believe that she was as capable and smart as anyone older than her, just because she was a kid.
"I'm not going to let anyone tell me I'm less, I promise you that!" She said, firmly, standing back up tall and putting her hands on her hips. "I'll work as hard as I need to, so I can be the best Senshi ever!"

Julienne purred, both at Xenia’s words and the petting she was receiving. If only every senshi was this excited to be awakened…that would make life much better and not to mention easier…people who were excited about things soaked up information like sponges, and that was so important if they were going to overthrow the Negaverse one day…because they were.
One day.
“Very good! Because you’re not less, Xenia, you are not less by any means. She let out a little laugh at the girls pose, shaking her head and wondering how far this chibi would go. “Now, to go back to your civilian form, all you have to do is think of it, and you’re powered form will melt away. It’s not safe to power up too close to home, so be careful of that, all right? I’ll let Lenka know about you and perhaps she can start you up with a training routine…I know she had one that worked for her, and it involved…the jungle gym over at the park…of course, this was before I met her, but still…it worked!”
It wasn’t often that Julienne felt so…proud of someone she had awoken, sure she always felt a sense of pride from them…but it just felt good to be wanted in the awakening process.
“Do you have any questions, Xenia?” It was getting quite late, after all.

It was all the encouragement the new Chibi needed, really, to hear that she could be just as good and just as smart and just as strong as anyone else, because he knew she was. It only made sense. She could do just as much good as anyone else.
She nodded along with the explanation of how to power down, though she wasn't quite feeling very ready to let go of this yet. Still, if it really wasn't safe...she sighed and thought of Hayley, and in a moment, she was Hayley again.
"I'd love to get a training routine going," she said, still sounding determined and sure. She would be the best Senshi ever - there was no way she could be anything but.
"I think I've got it all, though. I..." She considered. "Are there baddies out there?" It sounded like a dumb way to phrase it, even to her. "You know, villains,. I mean, if I've got magic and there are sides and I'm protecting people from evil, we're obviously the good guys. So who are the bad guys?"

Julienne stretched, and then nuzzled against Hayley’s leg. “How about…you take me home and feed me something wonderful, and I’ll spend the rest of the night explaining everything.” It seemed to be a fair trade, food and a warm bed in exchange for magic powers and knowledge, at least it seemed to be a fair trade to her mind.
This chibi was going to go far, she really could tell that. But, really, Julienne figured that all of her senshi would go far, they just needed to get there. That was all.
“I really, really like salmon, so if you have any of that, I would be most appreciative.”
