I hope you all finished your homework sheet. Please leave them all on my desk.Dude Food had not completed his homework sheet. His homework sheet had never left his school bag. Now he pulled it out and stared at all the empty spaces. It was a math sheet and at a quick glance it didn’t seem too hard, he just didn’t want to do it. That would mean thinking and he really could not be bothered right now. He’d had too many waffles that morning to want to think about mathematics. Maybe he could ask Iron Chef? No, she would never give him the answers. There had to be some other way...

Labyrinth trotted in, tossed her bag into her chair. She waved and nodded at various foals as they passed her, opening her bag and putting all her homework and pencil case on her desk. "Ah, there it is.." she pulled out a sheet of paper with signatures all over it. She'd been caught digging up school property and as such both her mothers had to sign a paper stating Labyrinth would start staying after school to help replant the grass. She sighed, lesson learned, as she trudged up to Miss Glory's desk.

Dude Food was watching as Labyrinth entered the classroom, put her back down on the desk beside his and then left her homework unattended in full view. He sat rigidly for a long moment as she spoke to Miss. Glory. Nobody was watching him, nobody cared, if he just... Before he could think twice about it he snatched her homework and hurriedly began copying the answers down onto his own sheet. Wait, that didn’t look right... there was no way that multiplied into the hundreds... oh well. Everything was back in place and Dude Food was sitting nonchalantly in his seat by the time Labyrinth finished talking to the teacher.

"Hey Dude." Labyrinth greeted her classmate glumly as she trudged back to her desk and flopped into the seat. It was going to take at least two weeks of after school time to properly undo the damage apparently. So much time was going to be wasted when she could be doing other, more fun things. Morning Glory asked for the last of the homework sheets and the little brown unicorn passed hers off on the first foal that went past her to turn theirs in. It wasn't even the start of day yet and she was already over the whole day. She rested her head in her forelegs and stared blankly at the front of the classroom.

“L-labyrinth,” he replied, stumbling over her name slightly and hoping she didn’t notice. It was cool, be cool, don’t worry, it’s not a big deal. He sunk down in his seat, holding out his paper for one of his siblings to take when they walked past. There. It was done. Damn, he really needed something fortifying. A piece of cheesecake would do the trick.

The day passed pretty normally. While foals were off eating lunch and playing tag, Miss Glory graded homework sheets. Labyrinth didn't enjoy her lunch or recess very much. She spent a lot of it looking forlornly at the taped off area where she would be spending every afternoon for awhile. Stupid teachers, stupid school rules. Where did it say you couldn't dig around the playground?! Nowhere, that's where! It wasn't much of a surprise to her when she returned to her desk after the bell rang to find her homework with a big, fat, red F on the top of it. Of course there was. She would admit to half assing the work, math being her worst subject to begin with. She'd just wrote down answers, stuffed it in her bag and considered it done.

Dude Food was slower to return to the classroom because he was in a crisis. His lunch, which had been lovingly prepared and packed that morning, had hardly been touched. He hadn’t been able to eat anything at all and he knew why. It was the guilt. Instead of facing up to his own laziness, he’d abused the trust of someone who hadn’t thought twice about leaving her work on her desk. When he finally trudged into the room, he went straight over to Labyrinth. He’d rather confess and have Labyrinth hate him, then never be able to eat food again. There wasn't any preamble. He got straight to the point, putting himself at her mercy. “Labyrinth. I need to apologize. I copied your homework this morning because I didn’t do my own. I’m really sorry. It was a terrible thing to do.”

The confession was so sudden, Labyrinth was completely taken aback. She blinked at Dude, confused. "Wha..?" The unicorn heard the words but the gears in her head hadn't turned yet. "You..copied me? Why??" She frowned, perplexed.

"Well," he was blushing from guilty embarrassment but he powered on, "I was too lazy to do it last night and I thought it would be easier to just copy yours instead of get in trouble for not doing it. I am super sorry."

It took a second or two more before it started. The corners of her mouth curved up and her golden eyes began to sparkle. "Oh..oh man..man Dude I am so..so sorry.." she started to giggle. "I...I totally understand how you feel but.." She started to laugh harder. "Oh man Dude, you picked the wrong phony to copy from!" Her hoof shaking a little as she tried to hold back her snickers, she passed her homework sheet with it's big, fat, red F on the top to the colt. "Math is the subject I hate most so I just wrote down numbers for answers, I didn't even try. Oh Dude!" She began to laugh again.

“Ummm,” he said because she was laughing and he wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing. “Wait, I did?” Then she was handing him the sheet and he stared at that big red F before walking to his desk and putting it beside him out which had an equally large red F. Oh. Well, of course. “Wow, I guess I deserved that then.” Dude Food burst into laughter.

After a few long minutes of laughter, Lab wiped a few giggle tears out of her eyes. With a last chuckle, she smiled. "Sorry to cause you to fail your homework, but it's kinda funny you picked me of all phony. Didn't you noticed my answers were really bad?" She stifled another giggle. "But hey, you're good at math right? Why don't we team up? You can solve the problems and I'll do all the writing." She grinned her fangy grin. "That way you do the least amount of work and I still pass, it's good for both of us!" Ruriska I think one or two more posts and done!

"Well, I did kinda," he admitted. "I mean, 6 multiplied by 4 definitely doesn't equal 248. But I didn't care, as long I handed something in and didn't actually have to do the work." Which was stupid because he was good at math. He never needed the help of a calculator when he was changing measurements for cooking. Dude Food handed her back her homework. Working together was a great plan and might actually help him enjoy getting it done. "Deal."

"Awesome." Labyrinth high hoofed with Dude. Ok so maybe the day wasn't so bad. With her new friends' help, she was sure to pass math and finally graduate. As class let out, the filly made plans with the colt to meet up for homework and snacks later in the week. With a wave, she started towards home before her heard her name called and turned. The teacher was outside the building, a big bag of grass seed held up by magic. Oh. Right. Under Miss Glory's guidance, she started sowing the grass seeds over the large patches of dirt. She grumbled when her teacher made her go back and sow more over the areas she didn't cover enough. Ok so, maybe today was just a wash. Ruriska The end! Dun dun dun, another one bites the dust!
