After the disaster that called itself a meeting among what used to be his division, General Labyrinthite had decided that it was time for him to test his team's skills. He wanted them ready to prepare themselves for a potential uprising just in case. The generals that had been dismissed were strong in spirit, held together by a bond that had been developed by years of working together.
He did not know what might happen, but he wanted to prepare for the worst.
So, he took to the Dark Kingdom and focused on pulling a certain gray and pink clad captain into negaspace. He had, at least, the decency to inform her that he'd be calling upon her that evening and to be free.
It was a curtesy that he wouldn't have offered to Wolfeite, but he'd always favorite Tourmaline. She'd been a model recruit, blossoming beneath his direction.
"Somethings have happened," he stated, when she was before him with his head cocking. "I'd like to make sure you're fighting instincts are sharp."

Tourmaline had expected to be called for some sort of routine meeting; asked to report in on her energy gathering and anti-Order efforts, maybe. Grilled on any thoughts she might have had on the progress of the team members she had been spending more time with, perhaps... She hadn't expected the level of stern seriousness she heard in her commanding officer's voice. Curiosity urged her to question the 'things' that had happened, wanting more of an explanation. Duty reminded her that she wasn't owed an explanation at all and if her General wanted to make sure that she was up to the task of taking on whoever or whatever they might be up against because of these 'things' she would do her best not to let him down. "Yes, sir." She could ask for details later-- Sometime after he'd gotten what he wanted out of her from this training session. "With or without weapons, sir?"

Although he was fond of all of his recruits, Tourmaline was certainly one of his favorites. Her loyalty and respect for him was astounding and in the wake of troubling times, he greatly appreciated everything that she had to offer. Her presence even appeared to be turning Aluminite's involvement around.
Considering how long they'd struggled with that, he was appreciative.
Especially when she did not request an explanation. She knew her place and for that, he was proud. He did not worry about his wolves catching the attention of one of the general-sovereigns, outside of Wolfeite whom he'd already warned, because they were smart and he'd trained them well.
That, he thought, was the mark of a true leader.
"You may use your weapons. I'll refrain from using my own," he decided after a long pause. "I would rather you acquaint yourself with yours. I will use the scythe at a later time."

Tourmaline summoned her weapon once she had her general's permission to do so. She took a brief moment to pull her gloves on, twining her fingers together as she stretched her arms out to flex in front of her. While she wouldn't say so out loud she appreciated that he wasn't planning on using his scythe against her for the moment. His weapon was large and definitely better suited for keeping an opponent at a distance whereas her own was designed for close combat. One day she would like the challenge, though. Maybe if she could convince one of her pack mates that a two on one training session could be fun-- More likely one of the senshi than Aluminite, of course. He still seemed to prefer limiting his time spent around their general, even if work at the Negaverse school had drawn him in. "Ready whenever you are, sir." Unlike sparring against others, where she might have lunged without warning just to mix things up, she wasn't willing to make that first step towards a mistake when going against her General. Knowing him he'd expect it anyways and she'd find herself on her a** within seconds for being brash; not the best way to start out a fight.

His lips twisted into a half smile, feet shifting until he was in a more comfortable, combat-ready stance. His shoulders rolled back to loosen himself up and then, once Tourmaline announced her readiness he moved.
It was quick, agility granted to him both from years of training and enhancements of the magical sort.
Getting in her space was easy and he threw a punch to her gut and one towards her face.

One arm came up to defend herself from the punch to her face, deflecting the blow before attempting to spring back away from the blow directed at her abdomen. This was almost a routine way of starting skirmishes, intended to test her reflexes and her readiness more than hurt her, she was certain. Not that he wouldn't hurt her, of course. She knew that he would... It was only a matter of time before he did. "I've gotten faster." She made a simple statement, no pride or arrogance, just the facts. She'd been practicing. Making him proud was an important factor in things, but so was survival and determination.

Tourmaline reacted well and she was right, Labyrinthite was proud of that, but it didn't show on his face as he glanced at her, expression stoney. There would be time for praise later, afterwards, if it so fit. For now, he wanted to focus on the spar. Labyrinthite shifted his feet, heel coming to sweep at the captain's, at least to knock her off balance even if it didn't ground her, and he followed it up with a palm aimed to the chin.
"Are you always so talkative during fights?" He asked, voice a low hiss.
Some space was given, with the general stepping back and eyeing his young recruit. "Come now Tourmaline, I expect more than just evasion."

Tourmaline almost parted her lips to say 'yes', to toss some sort of quip back at her General. If this were a normal fight against anyone else she would have because it would have been the truth of it all. She chattered to distract her opponents, or to egg them on into making a careless mistake out of irritation. That tactic wouldn't work against him, though, and she kept her mouth shut. The sweeping kick caught her heel, knocking her leg out from under her. She stumbled, but didn't fall, heart thundering in her chest as she caught her balance just in time to duck his palm. Spring green eyes narrowed in on him as he stepped back, wild in the way she watched him before unsheathing her claws and springing forward to take a swipe at him. [[ Magic Add On: A scratch from Tourmaline's 'claws' stings; more than just an average scratch would, this sting feels like burning (think hand sanitizer on a paper cut) around the location of the scratch and lasts for the duration of one post before the stinging sensation begins to fade. ]] Nuxaz I am sorry this has taken me so long. ;; Tourma's been a pain for too long.

Labyrinthite half expected some sort of snippy retort, but was pleased when it didn't came. It meant that either she took the criticism for what it was or she had come to the conclusion that it was an ineffective tactic against him. Reason didn't matter, in the end, because the fight was moving forward.
While his expression didn't shift from the stoic concentration, he was inwardly proud that she didn't fall when he knocked her off balance. The dodging would have been applauded too, because his palm caught nothing but air.
Her claws caught his arm before he could draw back in time and reformulate his plan or properly adjust his position. The metal claws tore through the fabric of his sleeve, cutting into the now exposed flesh of his arms and leaving a burning sensation in it's wake. A hiss ground out between clenched teeth and something about Labyrinthite seemed to sharpen in the wake of the lingering pain and burn left behind by her claws.
One hand went up to grab at the offending arm and the other reached for her neck or shoulder, hoping to throw her with the right momentum if he could catch her properly.
skye starrfyre as this is so old, i would prefer to wrap it sooner, rather than later if we could.

There was a brief moment of excitement that flowed through her as her claws made contact, followed by arrogance and then sudden regret as his hand snatched her arm. His grasp was firm and she could feel the pressure of his fingers gripping through the duster that provided little protection against sheer strength. Her breath hitched as his other hand caught her neck, the wild fury in her eyes turning to fear. She knew better than to get cocky in a fight against him and yet she'd let herself go enough to do it anyways-- too playful and not nearly serious enough. Learn from this. It's going to hurt. Nuxaz Fine by me! I'm on lunch at the moment for the next few minutes, so I won't be on for long until later on this evening, but I'd love to get caught up to present time too. heart

The movement were smooth and automatic, a disciplined follow through that had him forcing the captured hand down until it pressed against her body in some manner and he forced her neck down. His primary advantage over her was his rank, but his experience came a close second along with all of the hours and years he put into training.
Tourmaline had endless potential in Labyrinthite's eyes, if utilized right, and he was proud of what she had managed in their spar.
The hand trapping her arm lifted upward and if she didn't do something, he was going to send her right into the ground.
Motion completed, Labyrinthite removed his hands from her completely, putting distance between them as harsh whiskey eyes watched her, gloved hand pressing against the wound that had stopped burning, rotating the shoulder backwards.
"Not bad. Go for a more vital area when you claw next time." It would be a larger distraction if something like the face or neck had been caught by her claws.

Tourmaline's knees hit the stone as he drove her down to it, unable to think of any way to twist out of his grasp save for clawing him again. At this range she risked a stern backhand for doing so and she didn't want to risk anything that would make her head spin-- Not on top of the pain, at the very least. He backed away as she hit the ground, palms pressed against the stone as she stayed in a low crouch while trying to catch her breath. Tourmaline didn't look at him at first, eyes rising to meet his only as he began to talk. She confirmed that she'd heard his words with a quick, curt nod. Don't play with your food if you intend to eat it. "Understood, sir."

Picking at his cuffs, General Labyrinthite looked bored. It was a careful mask to ensure that his dear captain didn't realize how highly he thought of her, lest it go to her head. He knew Tourmaline was smarter than that, but he'd expected more from others and had been disappointed before.
"Come on, we'll go over technique and opportunities over a meal." He adjusted the singular glove before offering her his hand accompanied by an arched brow.
"Unless you have other places to be." He offered an out, that he didn't think she'd take, just in case.skye starrfyre we can wrap in your next post, or mine if you prefer

"You told me to clear my schedule and I did-- I'm yours for the night." Tourmaline slid her palm against his, taking the offered hand to pull herself up to her feet, flashing him a grin as the last lingering traces of wariness faded away. She'd let him pick the place-- his tastes were more refined and she generally got a better meal out of it anyways.

Labyrinthite seemed to hum in approval, fingers wrapping around the hand in his palm as he studied the captain's face. "Very well," he said after an extended pause. The last thing Tourmaline would see before he teleported them out of subspace was the flash of teeth.
