The wind blew through the trees in the park, as if a storm was about to blow in but no rain fell yet. Fortuna crossed through the park with a flurry of pent up energy as if the brewing storm outside reflected the one within.
She had argued with Kerri today and had to deal with normal teenage angst but it was still stressful, it was lot for one person to do on their own, to be sister and parents all at once. The girls had finally gone to sleep and Aubrey had to leave the house and blow off some steam, she didn't want to go to bed angry, especially at her sister.
So she found herself in the park, strolling around in her powered up state looking for something to take her mind off of her troubles, distract her from the dark thoughts brooding in her mind.
Fortuna did not pay as close attention to her surroundings as she probably should have but instead simply walked the length of the park waiting for something to happen.

Newgrange was out again, trying to push through the nervousness. It was getting hard to tell himself to go outside when he was so nervous that the Negaverse was going to do something foolish—and he wanted so desperately to go to his wonder, to seek guidance, to do something…
And yet, he was almost as afraid of his wonder as he was the Negaverse.
The fear of disappointment—or insulting the spirit that lived there—was enough to make him wary.
But he needed to get stronger. He couldn't stay weak if he wanted to protect this world, or the people close to him.
He was in his own little world so much that he didn't even feel the energy signature of the Dark Mirror Senshi until she was in his line of vision. He startled himself, worried at first it was one of the Negaverse Senshi, but immediately relaxed when he realized not only was it not someone from the Negaverse—but it was also someone he recognized. "Oh, Fortuna," he greeted, offering her a wave. "No youma tonight, I see? I hope you've been well since we last crossed paths?"

Fortuna turned sharply dropping into a fighting pose when she heard her name, but when she recognized the Knight she relaxed subtly, though not fully dropping her guard.
"Newgrange." she greeted and then nodded. "Not that I've seen, I have been... Well enough." Fortuna added, she couldn't bring up her personal life to him since he could never know her civilian identity, and it was hard to explain to someone you have only recently met about how your own magic made you go a little crazy and try to kill a teammate.
Finally, she really looked at him as she crossed over to him, he seemed to be upset too. "Is everything alright?" she questioned looking at him with concern. Even though they fought for different sides he seemed like a genuinely good person who didn't want to hurt her.

"Yes," he said, but faltered when he caught himself lying. Again.
"Well," he corrected a second later, exasperated with himself. "Yes, and no. No one's dying, so theoretically everything is fine. I suppose the issue is just, well," he drew in a breath and then finally exhaled. "Me."
He planted his hands on his hips and tried to take a more relaxed posture.
"Someone close to me recently had a…run-in with the Negaverse. And I'm concerned that while his mind was clouded, he might have gotten me involved. So I've been very worried that I'm going to have them coming after me. Not that I can't defend myself," he insisted, but once again he sighed.
"…I don't have a weapon, like they do. And I've barely used my magic. I have no idea how to control it." He held up one gloved hand and gestured to it with his other. "This is it. My weapon, and the source of my magic. And here I am, a Squire—for over a year, mind you—trying to figure out what I have to do to get stronger. I've always supposed it was experience in battle, but…When your life is on the line, you tend to fight a little differently. Not much time to learn how to improve, you know?"

She thought it was odd for Newgrange to reveal so much to a total stranger, but it was flattering in a way, that he felt he could be honest with her even with his shortcomings.
"I never had a direct run in with the Negaverse, only their pets." Fortuna responded with a sigh. She dropped her defensive pose slightly and leaned against a tree as she watched him.
"I don't know how knight weapons work, where did you get them to begin with?" she questioned with a shrug.
"I'm not sure what all I can do to help, but I'd like to."

Newgrange didn't seem to see the importance of keeping some secrets; there wasn't anything the Dark Mirror Court or anyone else could do to his weapon, he figured. "It just showed up one day," he said, shrugging. "And I touched it, and suddenly I was a Knight. That's...sort of it. My sister awakened as a Senshi, then. Only, she had a cat to talk her through things. And I'm still figuring things out. The Knights...really aren't organized. Or, if they are, they've done a very good job of hiding it from me. I don't know."
He reached up to comb his fingers through his hair; after a moment's hesitation, he glanced at her. "Fortuna," he said slowly, "Would you spar with me or is that asking too much? I understand that our respective groups might not see eye to eye--or, to be honest, I don't actually even know what the Dark Mirror Court wants, but...I don't know what the Knights as a whole want, either. But, I feel like I can trust you. At the very least, with our shared aversion to youma."

"I had a cat help me awaken... sort of, but my leader was there to walk me through everything... and welcome me back after I left for three years." when he asked for her help Fortuna nodded.
"I think I can do that, it would be interesting to find out what a knight can do." she added with a grin. "How do you want to do this?" she questioned pushing herself off of the tree to face him.
Really Fortuna could use all the help she could get.

His lips were pursed as he listened; he nodded, and seemed relieved when she agreed. In a way, he was a little jealous that she had someone there to help guide her through things--but he was happy for her. He could struggle through, but he couldn't help but worry about everyone else.
Apparently even the 'enemy'.
"Let's put a few rules? No lethal blows, no bone breaking, nothing to the face. If someone needs to stop, just say the word and we put it on hold. I don't want to hurt you," he insisted, "So if I do something too rough, tell me to stop."
Nothing about Newgrange seemed deceptive; he wasn't trying to set up a rigged fight. He just wanted to practice, and it's not like there were any Knights or Senshi lining up to help him.

Fortuna grinned slightly. "What's the safe word, rutabaga?" Fortuna laughed slightly and then shook her head. "No that sounds good, we don't want anything to get out of hand. I don't want to hurt you either." She added with a grin. She may not have been a senshi for very long, but she had martial arts training for many years.
She fell into a defensive stance and raised her hand towards him matrix style with the hand flex wave. "Bring it on Knight, Lets see what you got." Fortuna told him with a grin, she seemed more in her element with the preparing to fight rather than chit chatting.

Newgrange looked a bit flushed at her comment. "Well," he sputtered, "It's not like we're roleplaying, I think a 'stop' would work just fine."
He seemed a bit flustered still, and his cheeks seemed to have turned a bit pink but he quickly shook his head as if to dispel the thoughts. He took a stance of his own, drew in a breath and then charged towards her. It looked as though he were going to throw a punch at her but at the last second he seemed to divert his path and instead slammed his fist into the ground.
There must have been some strength behind it because the ground ruptured when he hit it--and all of a sudden, tremors seemed to erupt from around where he hit. It seemed like the impact had triggered a small earthquake, and the ground within roughly five feed seemed to ripple from the contact.Quote: When using his magic, he has the ability to create tremors within a five foot range of wherever his fist makes contact with the ground. The tremors are localized with the epicenter where his fist makes contact with the ground and pulse out until the magic is expended. The magic is best used to stall or disorient an opponent, as the tremors don’t cause any sort of physical damage and just serves the purpose to knock off balance for the twenty seconds it is used.

"Fair enough," Fortuna murmured as Newgrange charged towards her she held herself in a defensive stance ready to deflect his attack, when suddenly he changed his momentum and hit the ground instead. Fortuna attempted to jump out of the way but she lost her footing and fell, she kept the momentum moving forward and rolled away from him trying to get out of the earthquake radius. She pushed herself up and moved out of the circumference of the attack and stood for a moment grinning at him.
"Nice, straight to the magic then?" she questioned cheerily as she lifted her hands above her head, when she brought them down she shouted the name of her attack. "Loaded dice" (rolling odd, target opponent ) She cast her magic out towards Newgrange, if it landed it would fill him with a feeling of overconfidence and invulnerability causing him to attack her wildly. She fell back into her fighting stance and waited.

Newgrange stopped channeling his magic almost as soon as she fell; he was in the process of reaching out a hand to help her up when he remembered that they were in a battle—and she was casting her magic on him.
Hers wasn't entirely obvious; he didn't know what he'd been affected with, but he suddenly felt on top of the world. This wasn't so hard, was it? They were just fighting. He outmatched her, sure, but he was a stronger rank than she had been—and he'd probably been at this for a while. He rose taller, no longer worried about helping her up.
His mind was all on the fight, observing her movements and acting swiftly.
He wasn't pulling his punches anymore; he was a rank above her and had unlocked a strength and speed she didn’t yet have available to her. Without restraint, he charged towards her, arching back his fist and aiming for her stomach.

Maybe her magic wasn't the best thing to use on someone of a higher rank... She shrugged it off and waited for the opportune moment when his fist was about to connect. However she misjudged the speed and strength of the knight so she felt the blow connect, she turned her body to diminish the blow and she stepped slightly to the side and grabbed his wrist and knelt slightly, helping him to carry forward his momentum, over her hip and away from her.
Fortuna back peddled a couple of steps to try and get away from the Knight, now that he wasn't fully in charge of himself, she remembered the feeling, and she knew she needed a distraction. As Ptolemaeus had done, she fished out her mirror shard while the knight was still recovering and summoned her wraith, maybe with two targets he would be less focused on her.
She backed up one more step, pressing her hand to her stomach with a slight wince before she fell back into her defensive pose hoping she could keep up with him.

Ordinarily, Newgrange would have been quick to check on her, but her magic was still affecting his judgment. Her movement sent him sprawling through the air, but he managed to catch his footing and seemed relatively unharmed. By the time he had turned to face her, she had already summoned a wraith—only, he didn't see it at first. His eyes were focused on her, not the ghost-like wraith.
He was preparing to charge when the wraith made its first run through of him, and it was only after a few seconds that he even realized that the wraith had been collecting energy. It seemed to be enough to slow him down for a second and he lowered his hand, trying to take a few steps backwards to avoid it. It seemed his logic was returning to him and he tried to side step the creature and avoid it darting through him to gather any more energy. "Oh—can you call this thing off?" he asked quickly; he held his hands up to signal that he was done fighting, and added, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to go so hard. I don’t know what came over me, are you okay?"

Fortuna was still backing up cautiously when Newgrange spoke to her, it seemed her magic had worn off enough that he was once more in control. She held up her mirror shard and ordered the wraith back inside. It hesitated, seeming to like the energy it was getting from Newgrange, It tried to make another pass through the Knight but Fortuna once again firmly ordered it back. Finally it reluctantly returned to the shard and passed through.
"That wasn't your fault, It was mine. That's just the effect my magic has when my opponent is targeted... I can't control it, its sort of all random chance." She sighed slightly and rubbed her stomach again.
"You pack quite the punch, now I know I should avoid using that magic when I'm fighting someone of higher skill than I." She added with a small sheepish grin. "Good thing we are friendly and you weren't actually wanting to kill me, otherwise that could have been messy."
