[Happening during Careful Analysis]

As another day passed her by, Paige had decided to wander just a little further than she had wandered before. Not too much outside of the grounds of Sanctuary, in fact she was still within sight of the main gate, but was still outside of the grounds themselves. Humming a quiet tune to herself as her thoughts prattled on in her head, doing her best to ignore them with the strange tune, the small child was kneeling on the ground at the base of a tree. With the sun setting behind her, Paige had been ignoring the fact that she needed to be heading home so she could dig the hole between the roots of the tree she needed to dig. With her hands covered in dirt and grime and her small body surrounded by several small jars, she wiped her brow - only to wipe a smear of dirt across her forehead. Taking in a breath and letting it go, she looked down at the hole before she started to put some of the jars and bottles into the hole that she had dug.

Kioki walked with a certain grace about her, as though she were literal royalty, even with a slight bounce to her stride. A calm but jovial smile on her face as she hummed and twirled the umbrella that rested on her shoulder. Her head was hurting from the sun still being up, but she wasn't going to let that get her down. She was almost to Sanctuary. The fabled place she had been told about where Metas like herself could be safe and accepted. She had quite the difficulty doing most things in cities since she still appeared as a child even after almost twenty years of existence. Her adopted father had urged her to go there and make friends, and that was just what she would do. Even if she had to force them, they would become her friend one way or another. She laughed. Okay, maybe she wouldn't force them. That would be rude. But she certainly try very hard to be at least a bit sociable. It's what her father would have wanted. A pair of glowing yellow eyes gazed out from beneath the umbrella as she surveyed the area just before the gate. Pausing, she seemed just a little hesitant. Maybe scared.

'What, getting cold feet... Hurry up and fail so we can go home... Because we both know you're going to fail at the single thing that's easy for everyone... probably run home crying to daddy...'

She laughed, "Oh Benoni,.... You're funny..."

'I'm not kidding. You're worthless...'

"And you're a grumpypants, but I still love you none the less..."

'..Please die..'

"I've already done that, silly..." she giggled then smiled, staring at the gates then looked along the edges of the walls that surrounded the grounds. Oh, but something was moving over near the trees. "Oh look, Benoni.. a girl.. Maybe I can be friends with her..." she whispered excitedly. There was an annoyed grunt of frustration in mind from the male voice as she gave the umbrella one last twirl before stepping off the paved path towards the girl. "Hellooo..." she called out softly.

Being completely unaware that someone was coming closer, Paige had continued digging her little hole and placing the bottles and jars inside of it, having to stop every so often to rub her face. Not even paying attention to the fact she could sense that someone, or something, was nearby, when the voice called out, she made quite the startled sound as she turned around quickly - causing her own braid to whip around as she moved and smack her in the side of the chest. Seeing a strange child, someone older than her clearly, she slowly stood up from her kneeling position and started to dust herself off, trying to get the dust off of the deep purple pleated skirt she was wearing, as the blouse she had on was a dark reddish brown. Looking up to the child, she bowed deeply and looked at them with a rather dead look in her eyes. She had started to sign out of habit, but slowly put her hands down, realizing that she had left her notebook at home for the day, as she hadn't been expecting to see someone else, more so this late in the day.

Taking in a breath, she seemed to sigh, but held it in, before just waving at them, the dead look and straight face seemingly stuck on the small child's face.

Kioko titled her head ever so slightly as she approached the deadpan little girl. She looked from her face down to the hole in the ground with jars. She didn't understand what she was doing but she couldn't even feel any emotions from the little girl. Something that concerned her and drove her to want to make her laugh or anything. Something to make her feel something. She had a sense of determination behind a big smile. "Hello there, small one... My name is Kioko and came to Sanctuary to make friends!" she announced, with a grandiose wave of her hand and a slight bow.

'Idiot! Look at her hair!!'

Kioki blinked, looking at Paige's hair, her eyes widening in awe. "Wow! Your hair is very beautiful!! I'm very jealous." she commented, reaching her free hand to her own hair to play with the black strip of hair within a sea of white before shifting her piercing yellow eyes back to Paige. "Do you want to play? You look so lonely out here by yourself..." she looked at the hole again and blinked. ".......what are those?..."

Paige hesitantly stood in front of the hole where she had been putting the labeled jars into, looking as if she didn't want the strange girl to see what they were labeled with. If the other did see them, she'd notice that they were labeled for a variety of emotions, the words written cleanly in her own handwriting. Squinting when she realized that it'd be pointless to try and sign at the stranger, she walked over to grab a stick and started to write in the dirt near the tree.

I am Paige. she waited for a moment for Kioki to read it before she ran her hand over it to write again.I am sorry that my hair makes you jealous, would you like it? there was still the dead look in her eyes as she finished writing, looking far too serious for a toddler. Waiting again, she wiped the words away yet again. It is getting late, I am needed to go back to Mother soon. a pause, glancing back at the bottles, Those are nothing.

She smiled as the girl introduced herself via words in the dirt.

'Oh look... she's a ******** mute... that's just great. And you don't even know how to talk to her...'

Kioko almost frowned but more so to think for a moment as she tried to think of a solution. In the meantime, Paige continued to write. As the next sentence came, she blinked with a slight surprise then laughed. "Oh no, you don't have to-.... Oh dear..." she began to laugh a little harder. "It's just really nice hair is all. I've never see anyone have anything like it. You should be proud that you are the one and only!" She nodded reassuringly as she then watched for the next sentence.

She frowned as the next one said she had to go. "But we just met... and..." she looked back, squinting at the sun that was almost done setting, the light that still remained caused a painfully dull ache in her head as she turned back to Paige and sighed. "I can only be out after the sun goes away... because the light hurts my head and I can't think... Will you please stay a little longer..." she half-begged. "I don't have any friends... and I thought... maybe... we could... " she paused then looked down at the bottles again, her senses reaching out a little more strongly.

'Are you shitting me? She's bottling up her emotions... Literally. Bottling. Them. Stop her.'

Kioko moved to the hole, kneeling down to both knees and reaching down to pick one up. "...Paige... Why?... Why would you want to throw away your emotions... good or bad, the emotions you feel make you who you are... Without sadness, you cannot truly appreciate happiness. They go hand in hand. Emotions are so precious... it's what makes us feel... alive." she closed her eyes and pulled the bottle close into a hug, as though coveting the emotion itself. "Life is hard, we get sad... and we get angry... but then we find love.. and determination.. Every single feeling and emotion is valuable and shouldn't be cast aside like this... Paige, you will not be complete until you feel what you were meant to feel..." she turned back to look at Paige with a sad look, worry on her face.

Still holding the stick in her hand as Kioko answered, Paige just stared blankly as she spoke. Her facial expression never changed, never moved, never flinched. Something that was incredibly unnerving for a small child to do, a stage in any beings life where they should be full of emotion and expression.

Glancing back at the nearly complete setting sun, Paige turned back to the stranger she had just met and tilted her head, her braided hair sliding off her shoulder and swaying behind her as she did. Maybe she could bring this stranger to see her mother, she did see that she was supposed to be going into Sanctuary anyways. Maybe she could help her.

Though, as Kioko stopped, looked at the bottles, and reached to pick one up, her expression finally changed. A little flicker of fear started to well up, her brows furrowing ever so slightly as she looked down at the older girl. A thin frown creasing the corners of her lips, she started to write in the dirt.

Emotions only get in the way of what I need to do. I need to help people, to serve them. I am a servant, nothing more.

Kioko watched her carefully, the frown on her face growing even more as it began to shift into a slightly angry one. "But then where is the passion? Where is the love and the drive that makes you want to keep going in the face of all the things that scare you. You throw away these emotions but then what will you have when you complete what you need to do? No sense of accomplishment, not satisfaction... None of that, you don't get any of it! How could you want to toss that away like yesterdays trash as if it doesn't matter?" her voice was slightly harsh but filled with passion as she spoke. "Paige, you can't do this. It's not healthy. It doesn't matter if it hinders you. The struggle is what makes you stronger. Don't you want to get stronger Paige? Don't you want to feel love and despair hand and hand like old lovers that complete each other even after all they'd been through?!" she looked down to the jar and hugged it tighter, pain in her eyes. "It doesn't matter if you are a servant or not. You have to have a sense of pride in what you do. Without that, what are you doing with your time besides being a tool without a purpose. Find a purpose! Let that purpose drive you! Feel your determination to be a better person and let it shape you into who you really are!!" her voice flowed with such a burning grace like she was performing the climactic piece of a well-renown play of desire and drive, even if the words cascaded easily from her thoughts so naturally.

Watching the older girl go on her rather passionate tirade about emotions, the good and the bad, how they went hand in hand, how it was unhealthy, Paige just looked down at the bottles that were both in the small hole under the tree and scattered all about. Hand still gripping the stick to write in the dirt, she gripped it a little tighter and lessened her grip, doing so a couple times before she let the stick fall from her small fingers as she looked down at her feet. Letting out a small sound of distress, she slowly looked back up at Kioko, her own green and pink starry eyes staring into the others golden ones. Swallowing a lump in her throat, she slowly walked forward and fell to her knees once she got over to the hole in the tree, shakily taking the jars and bottles out of the small hole. Paige had never thought about her emotions meaning so much to someone else, let alone someone that she had just met.

Her face seemed to light up as Paige moved to the hole and took the jars out. Kioko couldn't help but shift over and hug Paige. "If you feel like your emotions are too much to bear, maybe having a friend to share them with will help. I can be that friend... I will love every emotion you have.. the good ones and the bad ones..." she spoke softly. "It will be okay... You get to be a whole person.. and that's great."

'Despite how right you are, you literally make me want to vomit..'

She sighed with relief as she looked over all the bottles, a smile on her face as she accounted for each emotion Paige had tried to cast aside. "I will be here for you, Paige..." she offered gently, with a happy and genuine smile.

Letting out a strange sound as she was pulled into a hug, Paige turned to look up at the older girl and hesitated before leaning into the hug a little. As she listened to Kioko talk, she slowly ended up burying her face into her chest and starting to cry. Deep, heavy sobs, making it seem like one of the bottles was unsealed, but her emotions had come back on their own. Clutching to Kioko's shirt, she continued to sob, her tiny body shaking quite a bit with each sob.

Kioko's face soften into one of endearment as the small girl buried her face into her chest. Reaching a hand up to rest against the back of her head, she stroked her hair lightly. "Your emotions may seem worthless to you, but they are priceless to me... I cherish them.. I will always if you let me, okay? You do not have to face your demons alone." she reassured, holding her close, just letting Paige sob into her shirt. "Doesn't it feel better to let it out rather than keep it all bottled up?"

'...seriously... this is disgusting.. please stop..'

Gripping Kioko's shirt, she nodded, just continuing to cry before she slowly stopped. Hiccuping and sniffling, she slowly looked up at the older girl before quickly looking away, as if ashamed for anyone to see her face after crying. She was scared and terrified, her emotions now quite raw and unbridled as she had taken most of the emotions back, only a few still waiting to be re-absorbed. It seemed as if she had more of what those were considered negative emotions than happy ones, a thing that would be quite distressing considering her age. After a couple more moments, Paige slowly let go of Kioko and shuffled away, quickly wiping her face and eyes, still hiccuping every so often.

Kioko's mouth turned slightly in thought as she noticed quite the number of negative emotions in her. While she was finally experiencing emotions again, it was quite unbalanced. Ahh, happy thoughts.. Hmm... She was good at that. Kioko glanced to the horizon, the sun just below the hills in the distance. "Oh, thank goodness." she muttered with a smile and lifted her umbrella to close it and set it down. "Hey Paige, let's play a game! That could give you more happy feelings so you don't always have to feel so sad." she offered with an excited grin. "Hide and seek! Do you know how to play that?"

Taking in a breath and holding it for awhile, she managed to get her hiccups to stop, or at least temporarily stop. Wiping her eyes a bit more, she looked over at Kioko and then picked the stick back up, realizing that she would need to write a bit more. I think I can stay a bit longer to play a game. I do not know what hide and seek is, though. she wrote in the dirt, holding the stick to her chest as she waited for the other to speak. As she stood there, her mind mulled over what was said - was she really lacking happiness in her life? It was possible, maybe, but if she was - how would she even be able to tell?
