Quote:
He’d been told two weeks ago that his elder cousin, Hudson, was planning to move into Destiny City in order to find a teaching job. His father had called asking if he could offer up his own home, since it was large and as far as his father knew he lived alone, to his elder cousin. It wasn’t like they disliked each other but they also didn’t get along as Alexandre wasn’t social with his cousins at family gatherings. They were always too loud, too energetic, just too much for him - always too much.
Alexandre wouldn’t deny family though - ever. Family was still that - family. So he’d told his father to let his cousin know he could move in, he’d prepare one of the guest rooms and to warn his cousin he had a cat and a dog. He doubted Hudson would mind, in fact he felt he would like both, but it was polite to at least let him know.
Once he’d hung up with his father he’d talked to Katya and had decided to pick the guest room right across the hall from his own room. The room was painted in sage color with silver candle holders and a light wood color for the dresser, desk, bedside table, and bed. He had the bed already done but he needed to stock the bathroom with normal supplies, towels, face cloths, and other things. He had none of those things in there as he let guests use what he had in his bedroom, since none stayed long enough to warrant a room - yet. His cousin would be staying long term so would have a room and would get bedding and other things.
He didn’t know his cousins taste in colors, to be honest he blocked out a lot of the talk around the family dinner table during holiday meals and family gatherings. Too focused on eating and escaping as fast as he could.
All the preparing had been done in the past two weeks and now he was just waiting for his cousin to turn up, he was due today at some point. He’d told his cousin, via text, that he kept a key under the doormat outside - let himself in. He couldn’t sit around all day waiting for his cousin. The college semester would be ending in a week and he had thankfully already gotten his projects done, the down time due to his ankle being messed up had been the cause of it, so he had free time on his hands which meant he had two loads of wash going as he had two washing machines, and the dryer was drying a load as well. The dishwasher was working in the kitchen and he had already cleaned the stove top and the oven inside.
With his cousin coming over he’d decided to just clean everything that he could at the last minute, no time for dust and dirt to collect before Hudson turned up. The inside of the house, the whole of the large double brown stone, smelled like a rainy forest with a slight floral note would smell like. He had incense oil burners going throughout the house and candles in a blend of scents to produce the smell which filled the large home he had.
Alexandre himself was going through the fridge and freezer with a pad of paper as he wrote out a grocery shopping list. He didn’t like to shop during the day - too many damn people who all got in his way. He’d go tonight, maybe ask Aiden to join him, but he had a list to work on now and add to later after talking to Hudson and finding out what he wanted in the house.

Moving in with Alexandre had not been the original plan when he was going to move to Destiny City but between his father and Uncle David he had been convinced to do so rather than trying to live on his own on a starting teacher's salary. Not that it had been terribly hard to convince him since his cousin was at least a familiar face even if they hadn’t interacted much. Most of the time at family gatherings Hux tended to be in the thick of things while his younger cousin tried to stay off to the side so they hadn’t really gotten to know one enough at all. Now was as good of time as any to get to know him though since they would be sharing living space for the foreseeable future and he was looking forward to it.
Either way the man found himself standing in front of the building Alexandre owned, paper with the address recently tucked into a pocket now that he was here and finished double checking, and a few suitcases at his feet and a few more in his car. He reached up and rang the doorbell, rocking a bit on his heels and a beginning slime on his face.

Hearing the bell ring he tilted his head, swept his bangs from his face, and turning off the vacuum he headed for the door. Cadha already racing down the stairs barking as he headed for the door as well. “Cadha, get back. Go lay down.” Pointing to the leather living room couch he watched as the little Scottish Terrier listened to him, he’d been well trained, did as told and hopped up onto the couch to lay down.
Taking a deep breath he reached out and unlocked the front door and opened it. In front of him was his elder, taller, and broader cousin and he had a lot of suitcases around him and likely more. “Hudson.” Smiling up at the other. He really didn’t know much about his cousin, didn’t know what to expect. He tended to not stick around long at family functions and he tended to be rather...stuck up and a snob - he knew he was and didn’t honestly care. Always dressed nice, properly and in expensive clothing, he kept his nose up in the air and had made it clear he didn’t want to be social with his cousins. Now...now he had his cousin moving in and he was clueless.
“Come in, let's get you settled in. I hope you don’t mind the room across from mine. We can repaint it if you dislike the color and change the bedding and fix the bathroom as well.” He said rather quickly, in order to fill any silence which might be. Reaching out to grab a suitcase to pull into the house. The floor of the entryway was a dark wood but soon gave way to the plus, thick, carpet of the living room which was filled with dark wood furniture and leather furniture. A fireplace, and sterling silver candle holders filled the room. Next to the door was a small table where he kept his own keys and wallet, at least most of the time his wallet was there. A door also, just to the right of the entrance, opened to a small coat and shoe closet where he kept umbrellas and a raincoat and rain boots. His other coats...were in his own room as were his other shoes.

He wasn’t surprised when he heard the barking that was a response to the doorbell, having been told earlier that Alexandre had pets, though he was a bit impressed how quick it was to calm down. The smile that had been on his face twitched when his cousin opened the door and called him ‘Hudson’ but it was quickly stabilized and instead grew a bit more. He would let the other man know his name preference later. “Alexandre.” He greeted back and paused briefly at seeing the tattoos the other had showing thanks to his short sleeves. Hux pushed his surprise away and almost moved to pull his cousin into a hug but before he did the younger man was talking again and pulling a suitcase inside.
He grabbed the rest of them and followed Alexandre inside to look around. “You have a lovely home, Tink.” He said as his eyes darted around the area and taking it all in, though his eyes did pause in some areas as his brain tried to tell him that certain furniture should be switched around or just plain moved. For now he was doing his best to ignore that part of his brain. The nickname hadn’t been planned and instead just sort of slipped out and he didn’t notice he had said it.

Noting the twitch, and wondering why it was there, he watched his cousin's face morph back into it’s previous form. Straightening up and pulling the suitcase inside he did, for a moment, take note of Katya making her entrance. About her neck a white gold chain with a dark pearl hanging from it and a little, soft pink, crown of sorts on her head. It wasn’t something he’d done to her but he wouldn’t go and tell his cousin that - how could he explain she was just like that? That she had come to him like that.
For now he ignored her, let her watch and observe as she was apt to doing. She liked to learn and she did some of that in observing, rather than her usual reading of books. “Thanks, I have Lily and her father's company to thank for it..” As well as his parents. Most of this area had suffered over the years of fighting in the city so two cheap brownstones had become one big one with the help of Lily’s father and his company. They’d blown out walls, made new walls, and various other things so it didn’t look like it had ever been two homes.
The nickname - Tink he was used to. Even as he avoided his family at gathering due to his inability to tolerate them, for the most part anyway, the nickname was one thing which he managed to tolerate and accept. He couldn’t escape it and hadn’t tried, it was a family only thing anyway. Closing the front door, they’d bring in the rest of Hudson’s things once all this was up in his room, he lead the way up the stairs and down the hall a bit. On the right side was where he opened a door.
The room was nice, large, with it’s own walk in closet and bathroom. A large wooden bed of a light tone sat pressed against the center of the wall to their right. While further into the room, to the left of the rooms windows, was a desk. The dresser was next to the closet and a bedside table was, of course, next to the bed. The bedding was in a darker shade of sage with silver sheets. The pillows littering the top part of the bed were sage, silver, and the darker sage color. The room was nice overall.
“If you don’t like the colors we can repaint and we can change the bedding for new colors to match. Just...let me know.” Holding the door open for his cousin.

Hux nodded when Alexandre pointed out who helped him more in acknowledgement that he said something then anything else as his attention was snagged by Katya. He raised an eyebrow at her outfit but didn’t say anything about it for now. If his cousin liked to dress up his pets it wasn’t that weird after all. His attention went back to Alexandre as the shorter man lead him up the stairs and to a room. Once the door was opened he peered inside with a smile. “The colors are fine not to worry, thank you for offering.” He said as he moved into the room to set down his luggage. He thought the color scheme of the room was nice and he would reserve his judgement on the bedding until he had actually laid on it but he doubted that Alexandre would pick something rough. When his luggage was down and his hands were free he took the chance to pull his cousin into a bear hug with a smile. “Thank you for this, Tink.”

“I’m glad. I have no idea what colors you’d prefer.” Or anything really for that matter. This would, he knew it, be a time to get to connect and learn about his elder cousin. He just hoped the other didn’t learn too much about him - didn’t see his scars or get dragged into things. He’d have to keep his secrets even closer now...as if he didn’t already do that around Aiden.
Startled by the hug he let the other hold onto him, the strength behind the hug not much of a surprise and survived as he stared up at the other. “It’s nothing - you’re family. Once you’re settled in check out the fridge, freezer, and cabinets and let me know what you like. I have grocery shopping to do tonight. You can join me if you want.” But he had to get things for himself and he would get things for his cousin as well.
When he was able to step back from his cousin he stood watching him. He’d soon, not yet, go out to get the rest of his cousins things and bring them up before allowing his cousin to unpack and settle in.

Personally he found the color scheme to be just fine, while none were his ‘favorite’ color they blended well and the combination was kind of soothing. Besides it wasn’t like he couldn’t change it later if he changed his mind though he most likely wouldn’t. His attention was quickly shifted from the colors to Alexandre who he could feel was taking the hug rather stiffly. Not that he could blame him since they knew very little of each other. But hugs were hugs and hugs were meant to be shared and he wouldn’t admit to finding this amusing.
“Still, I would much rather thank you as you didn’t have to even though we are family as you said.” Hux said as he released the other man and took a step back with a smile on his face. He gave a nod and a chuckle when his cousin told him to check and see what was available food wise. “I’ll join you shopping. It might be easier on us both if we got an idea of each other’s shopping habits anyway.” Besides, it was easier to get all the different ingredients he wanted for baking if he went with him.

“Indeed, that was what I was hoping you’d say. We’ll have to learn a few things about each other.” And he was now glad for two washing machines and two dryers - very glad. “I suppose I’ll start by just saying that I prefer shopping for groceries at night - less people. I don’t enjoy dealing with the normal crowds and school and work keeps my day time a bit too busy.” It was more than that, it had to be, and it was. He was dating and he did try and fit in time with Aiden whenever he could. It had been around a year now and the fact it had lasted this long was just...a miracle. He hadn’t thought it would not with his night life being what it was. Not with the secrets, especially after hiding how ******** up his ankle had been back in February.
“Let me get the rest of your things and while you unpack I’ll make something to eat for us both.” There was, as he left his cousin's room, a very slight limp still to his step but he’d healed up almost fully by now thanks to consuming some starseeds along the way. He wasn’t going to take too many, or consume a lot all at once, neither idea was smart.
“Oh...and the Scottish Terrier is Cadha. The cat is Katya - both are friendly.”

Hux nodded his head as Alexandre explained when he prefered to go shopping. “That works for me, I don’t have any particular time I prefer to go shopping myself so at least we won’t clash on that.” He said then gave a smile and offered up something that might help his little cousin a bit after that list of what kept him busy came. “If need be I don’t mind going shopping for us both in the future though provided you give me a list of what it is you need.”
“Sounds good to me.” Hux followed the shorter man down so he could make sure everything got brought up and the car was locked up when they were done. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust his cousin to do this, it was simply habit. He did notice the limp and was going to ask after it but Alexandre brought up the animals first. “Cadha and Katya, I shall remember that. When did you get them?” He asked.

“I might take you up on that offer.” He said smiling at his older cousin. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to be able to ask his cousin to do the shopping for him, incase he got busy and tied up. “Hopefully not though, as I rather like it.” It was a nice, normal, and mundane thing to do and considering how he spent a good part of his life it was a need, it was a nice change in things.
“Cadha I’ve had for a few years now, Katya is newer. I honestly can’t remember just how long I’ve had either, though I could look up when I got Cadha.” He couldn’t exactly look up when he got Katya, and she likely remembered anyway, a lot of time had passed and with it many things had happened.
“I might...eventually have someone else move in. I do hope you don’t mind if I do.” he spoke softly, stepping out the front door, his cheeks turning pink as he spoke. It wasn’t something he hid from his family, they knew his preference, but he had never spoken about dating to anyone - aside from his parents. He’d never had a reason but he was considering inviting Aiden to move in and Hudson needed to know. He just hoped his cousin didn’t tease him or get protective of him or anything like that….though he suspected he might, or at least have some questions for him.

Hux gave a smile back and a nod, glad the other wasn’t completely discounting the offer. “What made you decide to get them? Was it something you thought about or spur of the moment?” He asked after a moment. While he quite liked animals, he hadn’t actually grown up with any besides a few pet fish here and there in his childhood thanks to his mother being allergic so he had only interacted with dogs and cats when visiting friends houses or other family members.
The admission of someone else coming to live in the house eventually wasn’t something he had thought about but wasn’t really shocked about it either. He couldn’t help but give a smile and pull the shorter man into a half hug as he answered. “I don’t mind Tink, though I reserve the right to ask questions if any come to mind.” He had a few in mind now but wasn’t going to ask them just yet when everything was so new.

“The dog, Cadha, I had thought about. I was living alone.” Lily, whom he’d moved in with originally, had moved out and so he’d gotten a dog - puppy at the time. Then he’d moved into this place, which had originally been two homes but was now one. He was still alone, at least until now. He’d had people live with him in the past but nothing recent and always it was short lived anyway. “Katya came to me, cats can be...rather pushy and bossy.” He stated, thinking of the russian blue who was inside his home right now.
Surprised by the embrace he turned to face the older, and bulkier, blond. Slate hued eyes staring up at him and small smile did twist his lips. “We’ll see about those any questions you may have. I haven’t yet asked but I have been considering it.” They’d been dating for how long now? It seemed like a really long time, and yet nothing had broken the relationship. He’d thought things would, had worried and feared it, but so far it was still there and strong.
“What about you? You aren’t seeing anyone?” He questioned the other.

Hux nodded at the explanations for the pets, giving a chuckle at the knowledge that the cat hadn’t been claimed so much as doing the claiming of his cousin. “No problems between them? I hear that cats and dogs don’t always get along.” Most of the time his friends growing up had one or the other if they had any, not both so he was not speaking from experience in the least. Of course the fact that the two animals had been coexisting in the house for years now pretty much told him they got along to some extent at least.
Well, he had been planning on waiting to ask any of the questions but one came to mind that he couldn’t seem to shelf. “Do I get to meet him whether you ask or not?” He was assuming it was a he due to his cousin’s preference though he had noticed that Alexandre hadn’t used any pronouns. At the return question he gave a grin and a shrug. “I’ve dated a few times but nothing serious and nothing current, I was too focused on school.”

“No, they get along well. Cadha wasn’t sure at first, but he’s gotten over it.” Having a cat which talked might have done it with Cadha, though he really wasn't sure. Shrugging his shoulders he pulled away from his cousin and drifted toward the others car, planning on grabbing whatever he could to bring inside. They’d been together, in the same house as him, for a while now and he hadn’t ever seen anything happen, so he assumed Katya had dealt with anything...if anything had even come up. She was rather capable, than again she was a guardian cat and they had to be capable.
Laughing he looked up from where he was grabbing a bag. “You’ll wind up meeting him anyway, he spends time with me often enough at home. So that is unavoidable. I haven’t yet asked him to move in but that’s more because it’s just him, his mother and younger sister.” And he hadn’t wanted to take Aiden away from his family, not that the other could visit them and such, but it seemed...wrong somehow. Though he really wouldn’t mind it, at least not if that little fact weren’t taken into consideration.
“I see, well hopefully moving into the city and being done with your own schooling will allow you some time to date.” And hopefully his cousin would keep safe from the issues which this city faced, it really wasn’t that safe a place.

Hux nodded then moved to start grabbing the bags that Alexandre hadn’t. Between the two of them and the bags he had already brought up they wouldn’t have to make another trip thankfully. “Good.” He said with a smile. “Hmm, well he would end up moving out anyway at some point I would assume so it wouldn’t hurt to ask.” While he didn’t know the guy, not even his name, he would be sure to point out that if Alexandre really wanted his man to move in he would have to ask before the guy found a place on his own.
“Here’s hoping.” When they had all the bags out of the car he shut and locked it then gave a smile. “I might not start looking until I’m more settled down and used to the new job though.” For now he would take things one step at a time.

“Mmm, perhaps. I haven’t asked. I know during semester he lives on campus.” He hadn’t ever asked Aiden if he planned to ever move out of his home, maybe he should have? They’d been dating long enough it was perhaps a valid thing to ask? It was a rather new concept to him - long term dating. He hadn’t done much in the way of dating before Aiden, the other relationships having not lasted that long.
“I’ll ask him though..” The risk involved though...not that it was different from the risk he ran by letting his cousin move in, and yet he was doing that.
With the last bag in the house the front door was locked and he tilted his head a bit now, eyes focused on his cousin. “Have you started to look, have you a school lined up, or what?”

If it wasn’t for the fact that he was literally just moving in with his cousin he would ask Alexandre to give him a heads up if his guy did decide to move in, but since it was the case he just gave a grin and a nod. “Did you both meet at school?” He asked instead out of curiosity. Once they were inside and he caught the shorter man looking at him, Hux raised an eyebrow in silent question that was quickly answered. “I started to look yes, so far the most promising is the new school that’s opening up, Romano’s I believe it’s called.”

“Yeah, he landed on top of me when I was outside drawing.” He answered laughing a bit, a short burst of it. “He liked parkour.” He added, to explain how he was landed on. “Aiden was running late to class and didn’t see me when he jumped.” And had landed - on him. The other had, for some reason, then decided to look for him and bring him espresso just the way he liked it. It sounded cliche, it was really, but it was good - he liked it.
Snapping his head up at the mention of the school, already in the know about it, he nodded his head slowly. “Yes, I’ve heard about it...the uniforms are nice, I hear the teachers are all required to wear the school's colors as well…” This would bring his cousin dangerously close to his world...and he would be working for the school, even if he’d be off campus. Damn it...but he couldn't, and wouldn’t, make his cousin look elsewhere if it’s the job he wanted.
“You’ll do well, I’m sure you’ll get in.” If he had to...maybe he could pull a string or two...maybe.

“So you could say he fell for you in the first meeting.” Hux said with a chuckle. It sounded like they had certainly had a memorable meeting anyway. “How long have you both been going out?” Apparently he had ended up giving in to asking some of the questions instead of waiting like he originally planned, but it was a way to get to know his cousin at least he supposed.
The way Alexandre reacted to the name of the school got him a puzzled look before Hux responded. “Yes that was mentioned in the school information. It wouldn’t be any trouble though since the colors are pleasant enough.” He had looked into the information provided and the color swatch given a while ago to get an idea what it would be like. “Thank you but we shall see. I’m sure there are a lot of teachers trying to get in.”

“I’m sure, since it is a brand new school. But I’m sure they’ll see how good you are and take you in.” Yes, he might try and see if he couldn’t get his cousin in, despite his own personal thoughts on the matter. If his cousin wanted to work there he would try and help him...he just hoped he didn’t have to be corrupted - that he wouldn’t earn a corruption. Alexandre wanted to keep his cousin out of this war, he wanted to keep his whole family out of it as well as Aiden.
“You should put together what you need and put in for the job. I’m sure you’ll get an interview.” And get hired, at least he hoped. He hated the conflict right now, at least it was a conflict for him, his cousin was clueless but that was good.
“Aiden and I have been dating...a year or more now.” He hadn’t given it much thought, he knew it was around the year mark but over or under he didn’t know or by how much. He was still surprised by how time had gone by so quickly for them. But so much had happened so he supposed that was a big factor in why he wasn’t sure on just how long, since he was normally more organized with things and would have remembered this.

“Not much for them to see right now since I have no experience but thanks for the vote of confidence.” Hux said with a laugh and a smile. He was completely clueless to his cousins thoughts and certainly wouldn’t know what to make of them even if Alexandre had said them out loud since he had no information on the war or corruption. “I shall do that.” He said with a nod. “Maybe after we get back from shopping.” His resume was done and ready to be sent in baring some tweaks here and there for each school he applied to to make them geared to them.
When his cousin said he had been dating the guy for about a year he grinned and pulled him into another half hug, careful of the bags. “Glad you seem to be doing well then.” He said then started to bring the bags up to his new bedroom. As much as he would like to continue to talk, he should probably unpack soon.

“You have enough, I’m sure. Schooling and assistant teaching time.” He stated shaking his head and ran his fingers through his loose bangs. He had faith in his cousin, even if he didn’t know him well. He knew he’d do well - they were family. “That sounds good. Now let's unpack your things and see what else we need to stock the kitchen with.” It was going to be a long, and busy, night but things would get done.
Smiling he was happy that his cousin was happy for him - he was proud of himself and happy with Aiden. He did, from time to time, wonder if it would last or if the war would in some way destroy it - he hoped not. He would fight for it, for himself and Aiden, if need be. He just hoped he never would have to.
Pitching in to help his cousin unpack he set upon the others things with a silent efficiency.
