Vanraumolírë gripped the tongs firmly in her claws before dipping the metal into the cool water. She liked the repetition of the work, the way that she could bend metal to her will. She thought some of her sisters were vain, but then this was her vanity. This was her pride. Strength was beauty, and she could bend it to do as she would. The more you hammered it out and folded it back on itself the stronger it became rather than weaker. What other souls could say the same?

Fire tests metal and instead of destroying it, metal would bend to it and learn to survive. It would become stronger and sharper. She heated the metal, the sweat popping out on her brow. For a moment, she paused and wiped the sweat from her brow. The feathers of her hair were damp with it. Her muscles were heavy with the work of welding, it was a tiring work that made her strong despite her dainty appearance.
Her sisters would bring her jewels and she would make settings for the jewels in armor. She would work them into something fierce and beautiful. This piece she was working on now was an elaborate weapon for her sister. her sister was quick, deadly and this was a gift long overdue. For months Vanraumolírë had waited to acquire the right pieces. A stone of just that shade, metal that was heavy enough to be durable but light enough for her sister to wield. It was a labor of love for her. And at long last, she pressed the metal into the water for the final time.

The weapon was finally done for her sweet sister. She had been named aptly as “reaper of the stars”. Though she was vain and proud, she was also kind and sweet. Others did not see it as often as she did. They had been of an age and had grown together. Their other siblings (or rather technically Vanraumolírë’s half siblings) were close but not as close as they were.
She assesesed the weapon in the dying light, not having realized till then how late it had grown. The sun reflected off the surface and danced into a thousand lights as though perhaps the weapon itself held the starlight her sister reaped.

At long last, the weapon was done. She laid it to rest on the fine cloth she’d gotten for the occassion. She folded it together and tucked the weapon away in her workshop to keep it hidden from her sister’s prying eyes—all of them, nine in all (and a brother). It was her brother though that captured her heart, he was so dear and so sweet (and the only brother she had) that she found him a welcome relief from all the estrogen in her family. His smile was sweet as spring, soft as summer rain. He had his father’s easy smile or so she had been told. His father had been long gone before she had been born. Her brother though had none of his father's issues with females bossing him around, he was absolutely used to it. In fact, she thought, he might be at a loss of what to do if didn't have someone to boss him around.
