Well, this had worked out before, hadn’t it? He was still set on the idea of making himself a vest, and he’d done it before, too. Sure, sure, he’d gone ahead and ruined the whole thing afterwards, trying to embellish it with beads and embroidery… but it was all in the name of standing out and attracting attention. He was game to give it another go. He didn’t want to have to depend on Eilin for his costume work forever. What if he decided to go off and perform on his own?

Yes, that thought had been crossing his mind recently. He wanted to go out and see the world… but the rest of the troupe were happy to stick to Oba and Matori, places with which they were at least somewhat familiar. Anyway. Now was not the best time to think about this.

He cut his fabric as he had last time, and set about stitching the panels together. At first the work went quickly and rather smoothly. Maybe he really was getting the hang of it! Stitch in, stitch out, stitch in stitch out… it was sort of meditative, wasn’t it? He began to hum one of his favorite drumming-rhythms, tapping his foot to the beat as he worked. In, out, in, out, in, ou -- wait a second. Where was the… oh, no, what…

He let out a groan and held up his work. He’d sown the panels all wrong! The fabric he’d bought had a print on one side and was a solid colour on the back, and now that he had snapped out of his trance he realized that he had made a vest that was one colour on the left, and a whole other colour on the right! He rolled his eyes and pulled the thing back into his lap, beginning the tedious work of undoing every single stitch. He didn’t want to waste the fabric like he had with his last attempt, but this was… well, not the most fun activity in the world.
