It had been a couple days since they had arrived at Sanctuary, and Paige was still several steps backwards on her progression to be your average toddler with powers. Sure, she had been told she had freedom to an extent and that she was loved, but the aura that Karitzu had given off was enough for her to completely withdraw back into her shell and resume the servant persona, only doing what she was told as that seemed like it would be the best bet for her. Paige's mind was set on staying as silent and as accepting as possible, making it so she would reduce the anger and pain directed towards her even at others frustration.

As usual, she had been given the half-command to go play, so she had set about to wander the grounds of Sanctuary, trying to get a feel of the boundaries. Wandering through the tall grass, which was just tall enough that she could barely see over the top of it, Paige shuffled close to the gate that lead back to what she overheard was a Mansion, but she just stopped and stared at it.

Leukos hadn't honestly so much on his own like this, but part of him was starting to get used to it and even was beginning to welcome it. Even though, he could never shake the thought of Melody even now. He spent most his days outside laying down in the backyard of the mansion, he was reading a book as he tried to keep his mind off things.

'You just gonna sit here the whole time? I thought you were going to help me resolve so that you can get back to Melody.'

"You know very well that's not my plan.."

'Oh reaaaally?'

"..Yeah."

'So what, it involves laying around all day not doing anything?'

"Actually.. yes."

It was silent in his mind for a while and he sighed. "Look, she's safe, and that's all that matters, so drop it..." Kira seemed to coo in his mind a bit before complying and falling to a quiet hum as he continued to read his book.

Ears seeming to perk up as she heard a voice - unable to make out the words - but a voice none the less coming from behind the gate. Quickly glancing around, swallowing hard, Paige stole her fear within herself and got closer to the gate, soon daring to come up to the edge of it where the tall grass receded and gave way to a partial path to the actual gate, as she had taken the long way around the perimeter again. Knees and calves dirty from her walk as she had been let loose for the day wearing a pair of double-buttoned shorts and a long blouse that nearly covered most of the shorts but the bottom-most hem, Paige looked generally like your average toddler running amok in the tall grass as even her hair was not free from having grass and even a small bug stuck in the massive braided bun that was slowly starting to come loose from her travels. As she got closer to the gate, holding her hands out as if the gate could burst into flame, she looked it over with wide eyes.

It looked like just a gate, but she couldn't quite figure out why her mother had barred her from going so close. She had already broken one of the rules that was set in place for her - which was to not get too close, this close, to the gate. Taking in a sharp breath, she looked around behind her to make sure that no one was looking. Seeing no one, she carefully put her hands on the gate, just touching it, as if that alone could burn her. As it did nothing, a small smile twitched to her lips, but she quickly withdrew her hands, fingers twitching a little bit as she realized that she had broken a rule. Whining softly, she took a step back and just stared at it. Was her insatiable curiosity worth the price, worth the punishment?

Leukos had been pretty deeply involved into his book when a noise broke the silence in the distance as his eyes slid toward the path that lead further into the grounds, obscured by the shade of trees swaying in the light breeze.

'Someone'shere!'

"..I'm aware.." he retorted bluntly at the excited sound of his mother's voice. He sighed and placed the bookmark into the page and closed it, setting it down gently in the grass as he pushed himself to a stand. He wandered down the path and came as close to the grounds as he could feel comfortable with. Though the trees, he could see the gate from the side, a small girl gripping the bars gentle then withdrawing. He stood there and watched her carefully as he tried to see why she was so close to the gate, surely they should have warned such a small child about it. Sighing, he sat down at the end of the path just some distance away from the gate as he rested his back against the tree behind him. He turned up his music just enough so he could hear it faintly as the headphones rested around his neck.

Taking a couple more steps back, Paige soon plopped down on the ground and stared at the gate as she struggled with the inner turmoil of breaking a rule she had been given or to let her curiosity push her forward to where the voice was. It was times like these that she wished she could talk, wishing she could cry out a simple Hello if someone was there. Bringing her right hand, which had a faint circular scar on it, up to the still reddish mark around her neck, she seemed to get a sad look to her eyes as she looked down from the gate. Brows furrowing, she opened her mouth, struggling to speak but the only thing that came out was a couple strange, distorted noises, before she ended up covering her mouth as she started to cough heavily. After a couple moments of a coughing fit, rubbing her slightly bloodied hand on the bottom of her blouse, she seemed to sigh.

Picking up a nearby rock, Paige held it in her small hands for a moment, focusing on it, soon causing it to glow with a space-like aura and as she pulled on it, it seemed to double in size [Size Manipulation]. Once the rock was larger, she tried to chuck it at the gate and it managed to hit, but just made a slight tink sound as it made contact, the rock soon shrinking back down to it's normal size. Maybe if she made enough noise, the strange voice would come see what her noise was. But...she couldn't really make noise.

Leukos had been watching her out of the corner of his eye as she acted, throwing rocks and making noises. Odd child. He sighed and finally convinced himself to come to a stand and moved over to the gate from within the grounds. Was she trying to leave? "It's really dangerous out there... Why don't you play some place a little safer.. There's a park here in the grounds if you want me to show you where that is..." he kept his voice low and soft as he didn't want to startle her. He wasn't sure who's kid this was and why she was so close to the gate, but he figured he'd at least make some sort of effort here. Not that he had wanted to enter the grounds of the sanctuary, but here he was.

Turning to look at Leukos when he spoke, luckily not being startled this time. Paige slowly stood up, brushing herself off and waving at him. She was about to sign why she was over near the gate, but realized that most people didn't know how to sign, and seemed to huff slightly as she took out a small notebook that she kept in her pocket. Writing quickly, she went to hand the little notebook to the stranger, but stopped a little far away, thought for a moment, then walked closer to hand him the little book. 'I was at the park for three hours alone. I strated to wander as mother told me I could play in the grounds. I heard someone over here, was that you? ' the note said, the handwriting impeccable for her age.

Leukos watched her carefully with analyzing eyes when she wrote down something and handed him the small book. He read it over, taking note of her grammar and mature handwriting. Maybe she was much older than she looked, but even so, she seemed mute. Which would explain the peculiar noises that came from the child's mouth just earlier. Reading over the note one more time, he handed the notebook back to her. "It was me.. I was just talking to myself over there..." he pointed in the direction down the side path that lead back to the mansion he was staying at. "Who's your mother? Does she know you're this close to the gate?" he asked calmly, running a hand through his hair, only to catch one of his horns and he blink in a bit of surprise and maybe a little pain. His tail swayed back and forth carefully as he tried to think of what to do about such a small child. She was within the grounds, so she was safe, so honestly he could just leave right now and she'd be fine. But then again, she seemed bored enough to wander right out sanctuary and even if she was older than she seemed, it was still dangerous out there. "Are you hungry?" he asked suddenly then looked back to the path and sighed. What was he doing? He wasn't even sure anymore.

As she was handed back the notebook, she stared up at Leukos as he started to ask her questions, one she just waited until he took a moment to stop talking so she could write. Turning to a new page in the little book, she took a moment before she started writing down the answers. 'Delilah is my Mother. She does not know I am this close to the gate. She told me to not get too close, but my curiosity got the better of me. I will be punished heavily if she finds out.' she paused in her writing, feeling her hands shake for a moment. As she tried to get her hands to calm down, she took a deep breath and continued to the second question she was asked. 'No I am not hungry, but thank you for offering. It is not time for me to eat.'. As she finished answering the questions, she held up the notebook again, wishing she could just sign to him, as it would be a little faster than having to write down the answers and give the notebook to him then wait for it back.

Leukos took the book again and read over what she had written, curiosity fading into a stern look then into a frown as he closed his eyes and sighed. He honestly had wanted to scoop her up and just take her far away from her, but he would be no match for Delilah's wrath if she ever found out he took her kid. He opened his eyes to look at her again and squatted down to her level to look her in the eyes. "Do you like it here with your mother? Do you feel safe?" he asked simple yes or no questions for the moment as he looked at the book in his hand. He didn't know what to do with her. The only child he spent time with was Melody and that was when he was also still a kid. Now that he'd grown up, he really didn't know how to deal with children. After a moment he sighed again and handed her back the notebook then moved his hands up to his headphones to carefully pull them up over his horns to take them off then offered them to Paige. "Would you like to listen to some music while we decide what to do?" he offered with a slight smile. Hopefully, this would be enough to build some sort of trust with the girl so that he could find out more about her. He knew Delilah had no kids, but it wasn't out of the ordinary to adopt other Metas from what he had heard, so maybe this was her newest addition to taking care of Xeixii.

Watching as the older meta read the book, watching his expression change and that change worried her. Trading in a breath as she watched him continue to read, though as he got down to her level, Paige just stared at him as he didn't give back her book.

Do you like it here with your mother?

She nodded, wishing he would give her back the notebook so she could give more than just a simple yes or no, as she could explain more as it seemed that she wasn't getting her point across. Frustrated, she wished she could just take it from him.

Do you feel safe?

She nodded again, her brows furrowing as she got a look of worry, scared that he would take her notebook from her. She needed that if others wanted to talk to her. Though as he handed Paige back the notebook, she made a pleased sound and looked up at Leukos with wide eyes as he spoke again. Looking at the headphones he was offering to her, she held the notebook in one hand and habitually started to sign, as the only ones who asked about music were those who could. # C. L. A. S-# she stopped in the middle of the signs, moving to open her notebook to write down what she was going to tell him. classical .

He watched her expressions carefully as he analyzed her simple responses to figure more out about her. He nodded slightly in agreement to her then watched her beginning to sign then she stopped and began to write in the book again.

'Lulu! She uses sign language like Delilah! Honey, tell her to use sign language, I'll tell you what she's saying.. so she doesn't have to write in the damned book anymore.. must be really annoying..'

Leukos nodded once in acknowledgment and then handed the girl the headphones and pulled out the attacked mp3 player and searched through music to find some classic pieces. While he searched, he spoke, "Hey-..." he paused, realizing he didn't even know her name. "My name is Leukos. What's your name?.... You can sign it, that's fine." he smiled softly at her as he scrolled through music, waiting for her answer before selecting a nice piano and viola piece that was serene and calm.

Taking the headphones, she was about to put them on as he asked her more questions, or well at least finally introduced himself. Putting the headphones on, awkwardly as they were bigger than she was expecting and were sliding down her head even after she put them on over her ears, she was about to sign then realized that he said she could sign. Well, that was a relief. It would be faster for her that way.

#My name is Paige. It is nice to meet you.
Why are you here alone?#

she asked, tilting her head as she finished the last sign.

Leukos squinted as he tried to concentrate on letting Kira see as well, then paused and placed a hand on his head as he just opened his mind to listen to her telepathically. Why he didn't think of that to begin with, he had no idea. Probably all that time he spent alone, he didn't think to just use it in this case to make it easier on her, while all slowly learning the letters as now a voice could be paired with the sign she made.

Keeping a close eye on her, he nodded. Paige. It was a fairly nice name honestly. He thought about why he was alone and frowned a long time ago. "My family had to go somewhere for a while and I had to stay behind to take care of some things... I'm waiting a while before I go find them again." he answered honestly, He let her listen to the music for a while before asking another question, "Do you like it?"

Paige watched him think and move, though as he put a hand on his head, her entire body tensing a little bit as she just focused on him. Unaware of the fact that she was being read telepathically, Leukos would find out that the child he was dealing with was dealing with a large variety of surface thoughts, thoughts a small child shouldn't have.

Oh no, did I anger him?
