Arsenopyrite grumbled to himself under his breath as he looked down at the street below from the rooftop he was perched on. He had just gotten back from being lectured by a captain and had been told that he had to get twice as much energy than usual. Apparently that meant you had gotten better somehow or something. He hadn’t quite been listening, he was just annoyed that he had to drain more than usual.

It had gotten a bit easier for him to do so, his inhibitions about draining innocents loosening a bit the more he did it. Perhaps that is how criminals felt. If they did it enough it would eventually stop affecting them.

He backed up a bit so that he couldn’t be seen from the street and stood up a bit to stretch. He had been in the same position for a while and it was starting to hurt his joints. He would definitely have to get to captain soon. From what he had heard he wouldn’t have to do as much energy draining even though you would gain more responsibilities.

Arseno almost wished that he had someone to talk to up here. It was quite boring and at least being able to say something to someone else would at least lessen the monotony a bit. Of course he could talk to himself, but he didn’t want to look like a crazy person.

Indicolite kicked some rocks as he skulked along. True, he had been shirking his Negaverse duties. But what had they been doing for him lately, huh?? But if he asked that he'd probably get his a** handed to him- or worse. So yeah, he should try to get back into the swing of things, he figured. It had been long enough. He was experiencing a little bit of professional success, at least he had become the manager of the coffee shop a while ago, but his DJing that he really aspired to be known for was still as mediocre as ever. So it was back to the Negaverse. He wanted to have some reputation, so he'd better get good at something. And maybe being in the Negaverse was just the ticket.

He sighed, sticking to the shadows. Right now his duties were all about draining energy (and stealing starseeds, but he personally hadn't gotten into that just yet seemed a touch to far for his tastes). Indicolite pondered maybe hitting up a club and trying to get some action, some dancing and drinking, you know. That way the physical contact he needed to drain energy wouldn't seem so out of place. And it'd just be plain fun. But his uniform made him look a little, uh, well weird in some places. He counted himself lucky, he'd seen worse uniforms on Negaverse agents and Senshi alike.

No, he should probably try to keep it professional. Do things more by the book. The lieutenant grimaced and sighed again. The further he walked, the more he began to pick up an energy signature of another Negaverse operative. He tried to stay quiet, but his curiosity drove him straight towards the power signature's source. It wasn't especially strong, much like his own, so he could hazard a guess and presume it was another lieutenant. Or conversely, someone much more powerful who could suppress theirs.

Hmm...

Indicolite crouched down and leapt to the roof. Whatever he found would be more interesting than working the beat on his own, right??

"Oh, hey."

He had quickly spotted another lieutenant, probably stuck trying to drain energy, too. Was 'oh hey' an appropriate greeting? Were they supposed to salute or something? Honestly he'd forgotten by this point.

"Lieutenant Indicolite."

He figured identifying himself was probably the least he could do right, right??

Arseno jumped a bit, not expecting someone to address him right at that moment, but calmed down when he looked behind him and saw what looked to be another agent. Well, this guy was new to Arseno at least. He nodded back at the other in a return greeting. “Lieutenant Arsenopyrite.” He replied, holding out his hand to shake.

He wasn’t sure how someone would react though if Indicolite decided not to shake his hand he wouldn’t feel insulted. Some people just didn’t do handshakes.

Arseno quickly looked behind him to see if there might be an appropriate target walking by, and seeing no one, looked back at the other agent. How was he supposed to talk to this guy? He wasn’t even sure if the other had come to him on some assignment or something. “I’m just… looking for targets, though I haven’t had any luck tonight so far.”

Indicolite allowed himself a slight grin and gave Arsenopyrite a firm handshake. This guy hadn't yelled at him yet so he figured they were getting off on the right foot so to speak.

"Wow, that name's quite the mouthful, though I suppose mine can be, too. Mind if I call you Aerseno? If you want to shorten Indicolite I won't mind." The lieutenant sighed and shrugged his shoulders.

"I'm in the same position myself. I've been, uh, kind of slacking on my Negaverse lieutenant to-do list, probably in a lot of trouble if I run into a general, so fingers crossed that won't happen." He crossed his fingers literally.

"It's just," he scrunched up half his face a little, "I don't know, kind of weird to pick a target. I mean it could be worse though, I guess. We're not mugging them and as long as we're not taking their starseed they do recover." Indicolite had a pretty loose moral code but he was vaguely opposed to killing civilians. Senshi, on the other hand... Well if it came down to him or them, he'd do it.

Indicolite left his words hanging as his gaze wandered, busy half looking for a target, half musing on his energy draining quota.

Arseno was glad when the other shook his hand. It meant they were starting off in the good graces of each other, right? “Sure, as long as it’s shortened that way and not… another way. And could I shorten yours to Indi? Unless you want me to make it longer of course, I could call you Indico or something.” He replied, chuckling a bit. He wasn’t making fun of the other, heck he had the worse name of the two, but it was fun coming up with nicknames at least.

Arseno nodded in agreement. “Yeah. I had a hard time with it too at first, but I’ve been interacting with my general so much that I haven’t really been able to slack at all. In fact I’ve had to spread the people I attack. I just drain them of energy though, but I have met a few who steal starseeds without a second thought.” He shuddered a bit in memory of that other lieutenant he had accidentally met up with. Definitely a serial killer.

“I used to just go after criminals myself but unfortunately I had to pick up the slack when I didn’t get enough energy in and so had to expand it. I do try to put them in a place they will be helped afterwards though.” He himself didn’t know why they had to drain energy. Just that Metallica demanded it. He wondered what the heck it was going towards, though all he could think of was some giant youma that they had yet to unleash upon the world.

"Ooh, I like Indi. It makes me feel like Harrison Ford." He summoned his weaponized microphone from the rift just so he could crack the cord like a whip. He was a very mature 28 year old, clearly.

The lieutenant nodded his blonde head.

"It would be a lot easier if I was okay with killing, usually I try to do it in small enough quantities where they won't notice, but as you surely know, that makes it basically impossible to reach quota on time." Indicolite shrugged and grimaced. Arsenopyrite seemed to have a good system worked out, though, with leaving people where they could get assistance.

"I might have to copy you about where to dump people, since it's kinda my sory a** or theirs." Either civilians could be responsibly drained, or Indicolite could get his a** kicked to the Rift and back. That wasn't too hard of a decision to make. He would keep trying to avoid generals for the time being until he had more positive reports to give. That'd be the day, he thought.

"Between you and me, I don't much care for youma. Energy draining is an art, not a science, not that they could be capable of either." Indicolite had a pretty good soldier mindset, but youma just seemed to him to rampage in comparison. At least they were on the same side...

”All right, Indi it is then.” Arseno replied smiling at the other agent. “I’m a Harrison Ford fan too.” Perhaps they could talk about things that weren’t the negaverse later. He chuckled a bit at the other’s enthusiasm when Indi summoned his microphone. It was an interesting weapon to say the least. You could probably do a lot more with it than the cane that Arseno was stuck with.

“I’m not okay with killing. Besides the fact that we are hurting innocent civilians a lot, I’m pretty sure they would suspect something is up when the majority of the population of the city was dying randomly and without explanation.” Although he wasn’t sure of the number of agents that resided here, considering how strong they were, they were probably large enough to decimate the city in a matter of days if they wanted too. Luckily that wasn’t the case.

“Right? It’s not exactly something I want to do but it’s either drain energy or expect a beating next time I accidentally run into a general.” He had already gotten a couple, and that was enough to convince him that he needed to meet their requirements a bit more. “I haven’t met many youma myself. Just the one that tried to kill me and one in the Rift.” The former being the one that had caused him to be recruited against his will. Clearly the negaverse wasn’t that in-control of youma if they were randomly attacking without notice. “I haven’t really interacted with them all that much though. I kind of just put them in the ‘monster’ category of creatures.”

Indicolite laughed, but it was kind of a hollow laugh. Yeah, as if things weren't bad enough, if there was even a slight increase in the number of people who died after being drained, then the Negaverse would certainly become enemy #1 to more than just the senshi.

He looked over at Arseno, confused.

"A youma tried to kill you?" He shuddered. Yeah, that was kind of what he was talking about with youma being beastly and mindless. The idea that he could have a bonded youma in the future was also a lack-luster opportunity. He tried to push the knowledge out of his mind that youmas had been previously human.

"Do you ever think we might be the bad guys, Arseno?"

Arseno knew that Indi wasn’t laughing at him, more about the entire situation it seemed. Though Arseno himself found that he was starting to care less and less about who was drained or had their starseeds taken. There were 7 billion people on the planet and the Earth was being completely destroyed because of it. Maybe the population could shrink a bit.

He shivered a bit as the thought passed through him. That wasn’t the only time he had thought that and it was starting to unnerve him a bit. So instead, he tried to ignore it. “Yeah, I was just walking down the street after soccer practice one night and it jumped out from an alleyway and started to attack me. Benitoite had apparently been walking behind me, though not on purpose, and killed the youma.”

He looked at Indi after the other agent had asked his second question and sighed. “Well… I certainly don’t agree with the methods that we use. I’m not sure if senshi and the knights are all that good either, but from what I’ve seen and heard they don’t usually go around attacking random citizens. I know we need energy but... I wish there was a different way to go about it.”

He wasn’t exactly sure if he wanted to stay in the negaverse but the only other thing he could do was switch over and become a knight and from what he had heard… it wasn’t easy, nor was it very well appreciated by the negaverse. And considering that the negaverse had control of most of the world already, he might consider himself lucky to be in the know about all of this.

“I just think we might need to question things a bit more instead of blindly following anyone or anything.” That’s all he could say. Hopefully the negaverse still allowed a little bit of free will.
