Shun had spoken with Autumn and Jeremiah, and even had a preliminary experience with Other Ashdown by now. He was going to need to do more digging, but for now, he needed a little bit of time to digest what he had learned thus far. He settled onto his couch with a hot cup of tea in hand. Some show was playing on his tv in the background, though he wasn't paying it any attention. Glancing over at the remote, he tilted his head and slowly floated it over into his hand.
Exposure to Other Ashdown will eventually change him. It technically already has done so, just not on an outward physical level. Jumping into this fight could very well mean that he wasn't coming out of it human, in a way. It was a little unsettling to think about. If the changes were bigger and more noticeable, it would make his day to day life considerably harder. The worse case scenario outside of straight up death was he may have to give up a 'normal' lifestyle and basically completely dedicate himself to the issues of Other Ashdown. How bad was that? He wasn't sure right now.
Magic was far more potent on the other side as well. Things that were impossible were more probable there. Shun was going to need to learn to tap into this, but he couldn't help but feel incredibly wary at the same time. There was a lot of potential for power in that case. Something like that could easily cause something to go wrong, especially if it went into the wrong hands. As far as he was concerned, there were no guarantees that the people who received these dreams and powers were ones who wouldn't try to exploit it for their own personal gain. Having to deal with the Enemy was probably going to be bad enough without having to also worry about power hungry folk who may work against him or anyone else.
The things native to Other Ashdown were also highly dangerous, from what he had gathered. Granted, he had mostly only heard about Pax and the burning man. While Pax was supposedly friendly for the most part, he did keep in mind that same creature also was the cause of Jeremiah's affliction. He would still need to tread carefully when dealing with that one.
And then there was the Enemy, itself.
But how do you even face beings like that? Would any amount of magic learned really be enough to go up against it? It seemed like everyone barely knew anything of it, other than it was really not good at all. Other than escaping, they didn't even really know what its motives were. Fifteen times they had failed, apparently. Meaning Shun had possibly died fifteen times already over this s**t. Whatever the enemy did, it had to be something real serious, else he'd wonder if it was even really worth it.
He paused at that thought.
No. Something had to be done about it, he figured. Or at least another attempt be made. Anything left unchecked could only mean trouble. And even if he didn't try to assist, he'd likely end up dead either way. What a shitty situation.
Shun was going to need to return to Other Ashdown... somehow. The only time he had actually gone there was purely on accident. He had no clue of how to cross to the other side of his own volition. But there had to be more that he could find out on his own. The remainder of the missing teenagers were residing there now, acting as the wardens of the Enemy's cage... or something like that. With one of the three now dead...
Did this mean that the hold on the Enemy was also weaker? He wasn't sure. But he had a strong feeling this meant that there was going to be more leaks and the like.
The detective shook his head to himself, drinking his tea. There were still too many questions. And too many answers that no one seemed to have yet. Glancing over at the time, he sighed as he went on to wash his mug. It was just about time to turn in for the night. He couldn't spend the entire evening dwelling on this. There was plenty of time for that later.
