what became of cat and hare
It was a tuesday night and summer and Chris really shouldn't have been grading papers, but he was apparently a sucker and unable to say no to anyone because he was sitting there with a stack of essays on his lap and a slowly growing feeling of being conned. He had been promised a return favor as a reward from the summer school teacher, but he was only barely through a fourth of the essays because Bergamot was apparently hellbent on living up to his title as local othercat hellion and he would absolutely not leave Chris alone so nothing was getting done.
He was going to have to call in some help.
Pushing Bergamot away from the stack of essays and his lap for what felt like the 90th time, he sent out a quick text to one person he knew Bergamot liked and they had similar feelings for.
saedusk text to: jamie are you free? i know this is weird but Bergamot will NOT leave me alone and I need to grade essays i can promise you dinner or food in return if you just come and distract him please

what became of cat and hareLuckily for Chris 'Giant Sucker' Watts, Jamie wasn't doing anything that couldn't wait until later. A stream of hearts poured onto the screen as he reached a new level of affection in Pokemon-Amie, but as soon as his phone began to buzz on his stomach, he flipped the 3DS closed and grabbed for it.
To be fair, he wasn't expecting it to be Mr. Watts, but he didn't seem to mind. Maybe at some point he'd change the name in his phone to Chris, since they didn't exactly have the teacher-student dynamic going on anymore, but Jamie still felt a little embarrassed when he thought about calling him Chris.Quote: Text to: Mr. Wattsgrading essays? it's summer tho but i mean i don't mind i gotta catch the bus so try to hold bergie off a little longer

what became of cat and hare
The amount of relief Chris felt at getting a reply back from Jamie was indescribable and he sighed, pushing Bergamot away once more and holding him off with a hand as he texted him back. The cat was trying his best to rub against Chris' hand while also evading it to get into his papers once more and command attention while growing his flowery grass everywhere.
saedusk text to: jamie i was conned into it by the english teacher who's teaching summer classes she promised a favor in return but these essays are awful i can do that definitely though i've evaded him long enough i dont think an hour will be too hard i just need to turn these essays in to her tomorrow

Playing with Bergamot would be fun, but Jamie was admittedly also excited to get a chance to talk with Chris again sans Other Ashdown.Quote: Text to: Mr. Wattsi'm here

Quote: text to: jamie i'm making sure it's a good one probably will make her deal with the copier line one day or the scantron line
Chris smiled all the same at the texts, finally deciding to put the papers down and pay some attention to Bergamot. Jamie would come soon so it wouldn't really matter.
When the text came that he was here he stood up, opening his door to find and let Jamie in. He was holding Bergamot the whole time, to keep him from getting on the papers while he was gone. He had learned.
"Thank you so much," He said, giving Jamie a grateful smile.

what became of cat and hareWhen Chris found him, Jamie had been looking at his phone, waiting for confirmation while idly thumbing through the recent pictures. The footsteps alerted him before the voice did and, quite surprisingly, didn't startle him, either. Shoving the phone back into his pocket, he returned the smile.
"No problem!" There was legitimate enthusiasm in his tone and he reached out to give Bergamot a couple scritches behind the ear while he was holed up in Chris's arms. "Hi, Bergie. I heard you were being kinda bad..." Just look at him, though. Look at that innocent face. Jamie would never believe it if he didn't already know about the rambunctious streak hidden beneath all that fur.

Bergamot purred loudly and obnoxiously at the attention being given to him, glancing up once at Chris to give him something of a smug look while the laurels around his head bloomed his normal, pink flowers. Chris gave a glance between the pair and then held Bergamot out to Jamie, "Do you want to hold him?"
He laughed a little though and said, "Kind of bad doesn't begin to cover it. But hey, don't let me keep you holed up in the hall. Come in."
His apartment looked the same as it did last time, a little messy but the couch was clean and the TV was playing something. His plant collection had grown slightly to accomdate a pot of succulents, but otherwise was still the same.

what became of cat and hareTaking Bergamot into his arms was hardly a question, of course he wanted to. All smiles, Jamie held him close, losing his chin to the fur and the flowers as he did so. If the continued purring was any indication, he probably didn't mind. "You're not bad, are you, Bergie?" he whispered to the kitten, but there was no way Chris wouldn't be able to hear it, too.
"So... what are these essays even about?" The question was genuine in its curiosity. If his good ol' teach hadn't figured it out by now, Jamie was highly curious about far too many things. Before even bothering to look at the couch he was poking around Chris's plants—not literally, of course—examining the ones he didn't recognize. "Are they really that bad?"

Bergie purred loudly, pleased at the transfer over to Jamie's arms. He gave him a content chin rub, pleased to be in someone who obviously appreciated him. Chris only gave a rather dry snort at Jamie's question but let it be. Bergamot liked him and vice-versa and he wouldn't take that away.
"Oh, it's for a summer class at the high school. Remedial," Chris said, settling back down into the couch and watching Jamie poke through his plants. He wasn't really bothered, knowing he'd take care. "They're writing about a random topic the teacher assigned, something about symbolism in a book they read. The problem is, half of them decided to crack out a thesaurus to write. The other half just didn't bother to proofread at all, so it's a headache to get through either of them."

what became of cat and hare"I like this one," he told Bergamot casually as if he were talking to someone who could actually speak back. Chalk it up to having full blown conversations with his fish on more than one occasion. "It's pretty."
Sated, he turned back to Chris, delicately scratching under the kitten's chin. There was a smile creeping across his face, small, sympathetic.
"Y'know... I don't think anyone who's in summer school is gonna try that hard." Though he supposed he didn't have to tell that to Chris, a teacher. "I mean, who wants to go to school when you could be... could be... watching the fish down at Waite State?" Okay, maybe that example was a little too Jamie. He plopped down on the couch.

Bergamot gave Jamie a chirp in reply, another warm purr. He was an Othercat after all and while he couldn't speak english, he understood enough. Enough to spite Chris on the regular.
Chris wanted to be irritated but the sigh was well. It was adorable and he only gave Jamie a smile as he turned back.
"Oh I know they aren't," Chris sighed, flipping over another paper, green pen at the ready. Already he knew that this was going to be a long fight. "But somehow I didn't expect it to be this bad." He blinked for a second then said, "Is that what you've been doing this summer? It sounds nice."

what became of cat and hare"It's one of my favorite things to do," he replied, settling Bergamot in his lap. If the tiny flowerchild wanted to play, Jamie would let him up and entertain him. For now, he wanted to catch up with Chris, even if only for a moment. After all, he'd been summoned to contain the distraction, not become one.
"Maybe if they could've written about the fun things to do over the summer it would've been a better paper." He laughed, vaguely peeking over at the paper. "Have you had a good summer so far? Um, besides this part." Another laugh.

it's for youAfter making the trip, Jamie realized coming unannounced was probably a bad idea. It was impossible to say if Chris would even be home or if he'd be free. Sure, it had been a spur of the moment decision, but he could've at least sent a text first.
Looking down at the book in his hands—it was a hardcover, decently sized and quite colorful, titled Remarkable Plants that Shape Our World—he sighed. This had been an impulse buy, too. Immediately drawn in by its bright cover, he'd thought of Chris, and well, here he was. Hopefully the book wouldn't be a repeat for his collection.
Ringing the apartment, he waited.

Bergamot was content to lay in Jamie's lap, clearly pleased at the choice of human. His purring was starting to generate the mossy grass associated with his siblings, but it could easily be brushed off.
"Honestly I would have much preferred to read that," Chris admitted, finally finishing a paper and setting it down in a small pile. "Not my choice to be made though and it's definitely a deciding factor on why I became a biology teacher instead of English." It was going better now Jamie was around. "It's been nice, to be completely honest. I like to sleep in and the beach is nice this time of year. It reminds me of home, in a way. What else do you do?"

it's for you
Even if Jamie had texted, it was probably unlikely Chris would have seen it. Hyejin had been on his phone for the better part of an hour, right after he had charged it, and it was still ongoing. He hadn't called her awhile and she was hellbent on getting every minute she could from him, now knowing that he didn't have the ability or excuse to get away.
To put it bluntly, it was slightly hellish.
The knock on his door was a welcome respite and he bounced over, hissing into the receiver, "I have to answer the door, just hold on Hyejin!"
When he opened the door he didn't expect Jamie, but he was welcome all the same. "Jamie," He said, a smile on his face as he transitioned from Korean to English. "It's nice to see you, what's up?"
Hyejin was rapidly speaking in his ear, excited about something he wasn't able to focus on. He very quietly said, "Hold on I'm talking to someone else!"
