Personality: Ken is both very cheery and very disciplined. Bright and positive, he has all the energy of a thirteen year old boy with the work ethic of a man on a mission. He is very curious and loves meeting new people as well as experiencing new things. His only real flaw is that he has something of a one track mind when it comes to his training.
Personal Skills: Ken is a very gifted martial artist and Pokémon battler, with skills surpassing most adults. He is also surprisingly good at calligraphy and origami, both which he learned from Yamamotos daughter, Chie.
Family: Kens father, Applegates previous Gym Leader, passed away when he was only five, and so he has been brought up mostly by his mother. He has been training under Master Yamamoto since he was six, so his family is practically an extension of Kens. The master cares for Ken as if he were his own, as do his wife and child.
Hometown: Ken is Applegate City born and raised, just like his father. His mother is from Snowpoint City in the Sinnoh region, and the two of them go up there during most holidays to visit Kens grandparents.
Biography: Kens father and Yamamoto Sensei were best friends in their youth, having both been born in Applegate City with dreams of being Pokémon masters. By the time they were adults, Yamamoto had opened his own martial arts dojo while Kens father took the position of the city's Gym Leader. They both married happily and had children of their own, but it wasn't long after Ken was born that his father met his end.
A car accident resulted in Ken losing his dad at the tender age of five, leaving him and his mother with broken hearts. His father had left behind enough money to keep them fed, but there was no filling the gap he left behind. Not wanting to let his father's legacy disappear, Ken asked Master Yamamoto, who was temporarily filling in at the Gym, to train him up to take back his father's spot as the city's Leader. After getting permission from the boy's mother, Yamamoto did just that.
They trained ruthlessly for several years, with each one forging Ken into a stronger trainer. He learned to specialize in fighting types, just as his father and Yamamoto did, but with his own unique techniques and tricks. Once he turned twelve and was permitted to take the gym leader qualification exam, the boy applied for his father's old position and became the youngest gym leader in the entire regions history. He has only had the job for a year and half now, but his skill and discipline have made him a natural. He meets every new challenger who steps into his gym the same way his father did; With a bright smile and unshakable confidence.
