It was out of place for Nasir to run out of something at home but when he had gone to start cooking the previous evening he had discovered that- Well. They had been out of a lot of things. Ultimately it was odd but Nasir pushed it aside and went to the local market with a very well organized shopping list (because he always did that). The young man was leaning on the cart a moment, trying to figure out where they had hidden his preferred brand of olive oil. That and the super cheap kind as well. Seriously. Why had they run out of so many things at the house? (It was a conspiracy, that's why.) Ephebe world's worst start go! also, no, really, it was a conspiracy. someone wants nasir out of the house while things are planned XDDD

There'd been no greater conspiracy forcing Nazriya out of the house other than her aunt giving her a stern look and telling her that now that she was part of the household, she'd do her bit. Which was fine, really. It wasn't like she'd been living the pampered life before moving here, anyway - she was used to doing everything by herself, and simply sharing the load of chores with someone else was a newfound luxury she hadn't known since she'd moved away from her parents' place. And the grocery list had been short today, so she figured this would be an easy trip. Which it was, right up until she had a crisis in this ********," she sighed, rattling her basket before shifting on her feet and attempting to stare down the rows of olive oil. "Why is the one you want never there when you need it?" With a furrowed brow she turned to look at the young guy also looking at the same section as her, "d'you know if they've got like... another section of olive oils hidden around here somewhere?" It was a long shot, but who knew how these Americans did things.

Nasir's glasses had fallen down his nose and he was pushing them up as he heard someone. "Ah, no," he replied with an easy smile, "this is where they're supposed to have it all at." His nose wrinkled up a moment, his expression slipping into something vaguely bewildered before it eased into something easy and friendly. "Unless they've set up some kind of display again which means it may be over by the produce? It's weird that they always move the one I need when I need to buy it." He chuckled, something warm sounding.

Naz made a humming noise of understanding; she might be s**t out of luck, then. Aunt Hjørdis would just have to do without then - at least she'd found Fiene's cat food. His next words had her chuckling and sending him a conspitorial gaze, though, "I know how you feel, used to be same for me back home. Can't comment on this store though, first time I've ever been here. It's all new territory for me. Well then!" She grinned happily at him, "want to accompany me to the produce section, dear gentleman? We seem to be in similar straits here. And you never know, I might need a guide, being a newbie and all."

Nasir blinked a couple times before the smile on his face got wider. It was rare to find someone who was opened and forwardly friendly as he was! "Sure, I can do that," his smile was infectious, don't doubt it, "and it's not usually like this. They almost always have what I want in stock, it's why I come here." Since she said gentleman, Nasir gave a half bow. His head was raised to look at her, his arm offered out so that she could take it. "I would gladly show you around while we go check the produce section to see if they've hidden what we're looking for there." His eyes crinkled at the edges behind his glasses. "My name is Nasri and it's good to meet you."

"I'm glad to hear that, being as this probably won't be the last this store's seen of me - I'm living with my aunt and she swears up and down that this place is the best grocery store in the whole city, so I reckon there's no way to avoid being sent here again." She shrugged before humming in thought, jewelry clinking as she moved her head to gaze at the shelves around them before focusing back on him, "I like it so far. Only this little hiccup, and far outweighed by good company I'd say." And oh, this guy was fun! A husky chuckle and a swirling curtsy was her reply to his bow before she moved to take his arm with a flourish and a dimpled beam, "excellent! I'm Nazriya and the pleasure is all mine - that's how the saying goes, yes?"

"They've got a really wide selection and if you talk with the manager, or even the owner - it's this really nice old guy - they'll try and special order something for you if they can swing it with their own orders." Nasir smiled widely when she took his arm, happily leading the way down the aisle towards the produce section. "It's good to meet you, Nazriya." He chuckled. "Sounds like we're related, if only by names alone." Nasir and Nazriya? It was an odd but good coincidence. "Did you just move here?"

"Fantastic!" She filed the information away - there was no way that wasn't going to come in handy. s**t, maybe she'd even be able to get some of the stuff she already missed from Denmark. Keeping pace with him as they went, Nazriya grinned cheekily at his observation; "it really does, doesn't it? It's pretty cool I think - bodes well for friendship, yeah?" A wink and a gentle nudge with her shoulder followed the last sentence. "And I did! About a week ago, so I guess I'm as new as they come." She observed the other customers around them curiously for a moment before looking back to Nasir, "I moved here from Denmark when I got a job in my aunt's jewelry store - hurray for nepotism, yes?" Chuckling lightly she shook her head, thick curls dancing as she did, "I like it here so far. It's very... different. And you? Are you a lifetimer, or...?"

"It does," Nasir agreed with a warm laugh, leaning into the nudge and winking in return. Her attitude and demeanor meshed well with him and he was happy to find someone who was open and friendly like he was. The people in the store were, unlike some places, very relaxed and friendly looking. Sometimes there was a friendly wave. "Not a bad thing! My first job was with someone who knew one of my aunts." He shook his head at the memory. "Ah, not a lifetimer. I moved here not long before I started college here and I just finished." Nasir had a reflex to rub at his left bicep now when he thought about the end of the college year and graduation. "This town is great. You'll like it here, I'm sure!"

"Congrats! Or 'good job' might be the better phrase? Completing college is definitely no mean feat," she sent him a warm smile, "what did you study? Anything exciting?" She chuckled, cocking her head slightly to the side and considering her words, "I like the people best, so far; everyone's been really friendly and chatty, with only a few small exceptions. Everything else... really, the best word for it is 'different', at least coming from a small Danish town. It can get a bit overwhelming sometimes, learning a whole new country." She shrugged with a half-smile, "at least mandatory English lessons in school have my back for not having to learn a whole new language too."

"Thanks," Nasir smiled. When she asked what he studied, he ducked his head down bit and scratched at the back of it before he was pulling at one of the barrettes in his hair and fixing it back out of habit. "Mathematics. I, ah ... Well, I'm good at it." Not that he really talked about it much because he just could do it. It wasn't a real passion, not like cooking. Nasir was smiling at her when she talked about the people. "Everyone is very friendly here - at least everyone I know! My family liked to move around a lot around the Americas, so it's not the same as an entire new country but I know the feeling? You'll fit in here fine and your English is good!"

Not exactly the most enthused response she'd ever heard about a college major, but fair enough. "That makes you something of a wizard to a large part of the population, honestly!" She returned his smile, listening to his words; "that's as good a recommendation as I could ever get, I'll bet." There was no way someone as open and friendly as Nasir didn't know a ton of people; she'd bet her favourite necklace on it. Hell, she'd been here for all of two seconds and already she knew people. "That must've been interesting, seeing so many places," she hummed thoughtfully. "How are you liking being stationary? It must be quite different to what you were used to. And thanks!" She hadn't been particularly worried, but the comment was definitely appreciated nonetheless - her aunt had said something similar, but Naz was pretty sure Hjørdis wore permanent heart goggles when it came to her family, so.

"It makes understanding and adjusting recipes easier, that's for sure." Nasir shook his head with a small smile. Without a passion for math, it was merely a means to study when he would much rather be cooking. "You're very welcome," he replied, warm brown eyes focused on her a moment before back to the aisle. Nazriya was a change of pace with how open she was and he really was enjoying it. "To be honest with you? I actually was getting tired of moving around so much and wanted to stay in one place. It's different staying here all the time but I like it. It makes me happy."

"You enjoy cooking?" Otherwise it was a rather specific benefit to choose, but she figured there was no harm in asking. "I'm glad," she watched his profile, "everyone deserves to have a living situation they're happy with, yeah? And I can imagine it must get tough, especially growing. What are you gonna do with your days now that you're done with college?"

"I don't think enjoy is a strong enough word ..." It really wasn't. Some of Nasir's happiest moments were in the kitchen cooking but that was a given considering how much he felt at home there. "Ah, well ... My boyfriend is thinking about going for a masters and I'm wanting to take a break. Work and cook for a bit. Maybe go to culinary school later?" He shook his head, smiling at Nazriya. "What brought you here to Ashdown?"
