- Put [enter] and [exit] when your character is first posting in an area, and then again when they decide to leave. Often times, members will glance at a post and mention your character in it, so if it's unclear whether or not your role play character is actually present, sometimes you could be mistakenly mentioned; it could cause a lot of confusion in the guild.
You can give your Pokémon personalities as well! It'll make them more realistic (remember how stubborn Ash's Charizard was?) and you can do tons of mini-arcs. Pokémon are dynamic creatures.
Just because you can't purchase status healing items right off the bat doesn't mean your Pokémon needs to suffer from status ailments. There are plenty of berries scattered all around the region, so be sure to stock up on them -- they can be incredibly helpful when your trainer is just starting out.
Battle tons of wild Pokémon! It'll give both your trainer and your Pokémon experience, and you need that in order to evolve your Pokémon. If you're feeling up to it, you can even take on multiple Pokémon at the same time! ...just be sure not to bite off more than you can chew.
Don't forget that trainer battles don't have to be other members on Gaia - even if it's an NPC that you made up on your own, your Pokémon will receive trainer battle experience from the skirmish.
Be sure to check what TMs are in the Poké Marts in each town. Each Mart has different items, and sometimes what's in one Mart may be exceptionally helpful to your trainer.
Especially if you're just starting out, catching a Pokémon with the Pickup ability can really help you out on your journey! What you find is random, but it's an excellent way to get money and items. And it's free!
