Chase knew that Levi was injured almost immediately after James had helped Jade get Levi in her apartment. The only reason he hadn't gone over immediately was because his captain advised against it.

He's unconscious, let the girl take care of him for the night and check on him tomorrow, James had suggested before hanging up and begrudgingly Chase had to agree. There wasn't much he could do as long as the man was unconscious so, he waited.

He was able to remain distracted by his nightly venture to the abandoned bakery and checking in on his other agents. Chase had known about the tournament but had not participated nor had he encourage or discouraged any of his from participating. There were too many things occupying his time for him to devote any true attention to it. He'd been pleased to hear that both Domeykite and Tourmaline had progressed even if they hadn't won.

He was less pleased to know that Domeykite suffered head trauma and to learn that he'd suffered a concussion during their excursion into the cave that neither of his subordinates had thought to inform him. He let Aluminite get away with it this time, if only because of his quick informing of this injury.

So, when tomorrow came he'd gotten in contact with the civilian identity of Lieutenant Marcasite and informed her that he'd be stopping by to collect his lieutenant. She'd attempted to protest but ultimately gave in, respecting that he was Levi's general and that it was his job to care.

It helped that he'd given her an open invitation to come over after.

It was about one in the afternoon that Chase made his way over to the complex, teleporting to the rooftop from memories of visiting Dustin, and powering down immediately when he went to enter the building from the roof access. By the time he'd made it to Jade's door, the woman was no where to be found and he let himself in as she'd instructed.

In order to make sure he didn't startle the other man, whom he was certain was likely in the bedroom he called loudly, "Levi it's Chase. I'm here to check on you." He'd tell the other man that they'd be relocating once he was certain the man didn't need to go to the hospital.

The last 24 hours had been a whirlwind for Levi. If it hadn't been for Jade, he knew he would have been a lot worse off than he was - or at least how he felt. Though he hadn't eaten another starseed, the first had done its job well enough that he could sit up in bed. A mix of energy orbs and ibuprofen kept the worst of the pain at bay when he wasn't sleeping (though he still was, most of the time).

It was a brief period of consciousness that found him leaned back into a pillow braced against Jade's headboard with his phone in his hand. It was nothing important, except that he didn't want to forget.

[To James: Thanks for helping her. I owe you one.]

Then the phone dropped back to the bed beside him. Levi sighed and leaned his head down just a bit, ruffling the thick hair at his crown that stood askew. Then a voice he hadn't been expecting called out to him and every muscle went tense, like he'd been frozen in place.

"Back here," he called, though his tone was weaker than he would have liked. Raising his voice made it ring in his ears and that, he found, was nearly as unpleasant as trying to stand and walk on his own. He reclined back into the pillow again and simply waited for his General to find his way to Jade's room, though he did cast around briefly for any sign of a shirt.

None. Probably on purpose, knowing Jade.

His steps were careful as he crossed the living room and rounded the corner to head down the hallway towards the bedroom. There had been contemplation of whether he should leave his shoes at the door. In the end, the man kept them on and hoped they were clean enough to avoid mucking up her carpet.

Cautiously, the bedroom door was pushed open and Chase leaned against it, scanning the room for Levi. He found him, tucked away in the bed shirtless. His brows arched up in surprise, then his mouth slipped into a slanted grin. "You look like hell," he commented just to state the obvious before pushing off the door and striding into the room.

It was unclear what his expression meant when whiskey eyes drifted across what exposed parts of Levi he could see. Chase came to stand by the bedside, reached for the comforter draped across the rest of his frame and pulled it back. "Can you sit up? I want to check the rest of you. I've been informed of your head injuries and there's little to be done there if you won't get an MRI."

He glanced around the decent sized room, a sound of approval before returning his attention to Levi. "I want to move you to my house." It was clearly an order and the way he held himself showed that it was not up for debate.

Levi watched Chase through a fringe of dark hair that slanted across his eyes, thankful suddenly for his tussled bedhead when an all-too-familiar grin pulled at the other man's lips. Despite his usual begrudging attitude, Levi felt himself echo the smile even as he dropped his eyes, avoiding direct contact when Chase's eyes began to roam his exposed skin.

Damn it, Jade. Shirt.

"Yeah, who knew ballerinas were so dangerous.." It was a half-hearted joke, weak as he felt.

He caught Chase's movements from the corner of his eyes and had just opened his lips for an objection when the comforters were pulled back and away so abruptly. Yes, he could ******** sit up. Thanks for the warning. Despite the heat to his skin, he felt frigid when exposed to so much air, especially considering he was only wearing a pair of navy briefs. What reason did he have for wearing pants when he was sleeping?

Annoyed, Levi pushed himself up slowly and swung both legs over the side of the bed. The motion made him a touch woozy, so that he put a hand to his forehead, but overall he was feeling much better.

"There's no reason to spend money on an MRI so they can tell me I have a concussion," he mumbled, rejecting the notion, "and the rest of me is as fine as ever. I don't.. need to go to your house, Chase."

The man slouched over, hunching and hiding most of his chest, and exposing the flat plane of his back instead. The bright eyes refused to rise under the other man's gaze, and not just because of the scarlet creeping into his cheeks.

"It's unwise to dismiss someone because of their stature or career choice," he replied, a single dark brow curving upward when he realized that Levi was pantless. That was unexpected, though he supposed unsurprising. Summer heat was upon them and he could feel the way it filled the room. Why would Jade allow Levi to sleep in uncomfortable jean if he wouldn't be moving from bed except to use the restroom.

Smart woman, even if the result was embarrassment for the man in the bed.

Chase stepped back as the lanky man moved, legs swinging over and body swaying slightly. Instinctively, a cold hand pressed against Levi's exposed sternum and the other man leaned forward, gaze sweeping across a mildy bruised back. He was recovering quicker than someone remaining unpowered and that was worrisome to the general. "Have you been consuming energy?" His lips pursed together in a mix of irritation and concern.

"I don't want you resorting to cheap methods of healing. One once in a while, fine, but too repetitive and you'll find yourself an addict." Weaker too, he thought but did not voice. The mild lecture was enough. He would address it if it became a true cause of concern.

"It's not up for debate Levi," Chase snapped, looking up sharply as his hands moved to the mans back, then up to his scalp. "I don't trust that you won't return to work too soon without supervision and - " he paused to look up at the ceiling as though it might allow him to see the tenants that might be above. "There are other causes for concern here." Xenotime, he thought and expected Levi to understand.

"Your girlfriend can visit you at the house. You either come with me or you go to the hospital."

Choices were presented but it was clear what the expect answer was.

Just like a switch, Chase became the General effortlessly, shining like a backlight through the civilian skin Levi had been more at ease with only moments before. The playful air he'd adopted, the joking words, ceased abruptly. Instead, he stared at the floor, glowering.

There was no reason to speak as Chase went about his examinations and Levi simply accepted that. Even as the other man's chilled fingers pressed into his sternum, forcing Levi to tilt his head away from the arm in his personal space, he held his words - and his breath. The body beneath Chase's examinations went uncomfortably stiff as his hand slid from sternum, to back, and finally up to his tender head. It was true that his heart was beating a little faster, that he had to stop himself from leaning into a touch that was less personal than he'd have liked, but he was also conflicted over the notion that he didn't want to be examined. He didn't want to be assessed for damage. He didn't want Labyrinthite's hands on him, even if they looked like someone else's.

He blew out a breath on a wince, pulling away a little from both the exploring fingers and the sudden snap.

Rank pulled, noted, General.

"Heard."

Levi's own wide hand reached up and pushed back the hair from his eyes, though he did finally manage to raise his gaze from the floor. It didn't raise to Chase's, but swept out instead, until he saw his pants draped over the back of a chair.

"Would you grab those?" A shaky hand raised an even weaker arm, but he held the pointed finger until Chase looked. If nothing was up for debate, he wasn't going to bother. The stormy set of his face said as much.

Levi was one of the few from Chase's past that was still around but unlike the others, flickers of the bright-eyed boy he used to be didn't surface. He was not like Alkaid or Zircon, who's bonds had been fashioned when he'd been emotionally available. They had met, they had trained and then, Levi went awol from the Negaverse when Chase had cemented his loyalties. They were no longer the teenagers they'd been when they'd met.

He couldn't miss the way the other man's frame tensed beneath his hands, who's rough fingers slid across soft skin. Aftercare wasn't something he did personally often, but as always, Levi seemed to be lucky enough to receive it. "Levi," he said more softly than perhaps expected of him. "You didn't inform me of your prior injuries. It's important that they are cared for properly." The words felt foreign in mouth, because phrases and words like that were not something he used unless he was speaking to his mother.

Would you grab those?

His head turned sharply towards where Levi pointed and with some reluctance, he nodded and pulled his hands away. Retrieving the pants was easy and he offered them with a skeptical look. "Will you need help?" Perhaps a strange question but concussions often led to inability to stand and Chase didn't know if pulling pants on would be difficult. "I came unconventionally, we'll leave the same way."

Levi didn't want to hear gentle words from Chase's lips, but knew without question that he would remember them. Hell, he'd probably magnify how much concern he heard in the tone at some weak point during his miserable recovery because that was how unsquashable feelings altered common sense. Recognizing it didn't completely eradicate a stupid emotion.

He did manage to finally meet Chase's skeptical look with his bright eyes once he reached for the pants the other man held out to him. The offer made him smile weakly, perhaps just from his own complete and utter disbelief of the situation, but it at least eased some of the outright tension that poured off of him in waves.

"I think I've got this, I'm not a vegetable." He frowned over the words as he realized how grouchy they sounded and paused halfway through raising a leg to put through the first pant leg. "Sorry, I just feel like s**t."

Dealing with Chase felt exhausting. He would be glad when they finally got to Chase's place and he could simply go to sleep. At least in his dreams he didn't have to deal with this - or expend the energy. Almost as an afterthought, he remembered the jar of energy medley that Porsha had been kind enough to leave behind. Chase obviously didn't want him to use it but he felt a small bit of disappointment and not being able to keep his pain at bay so easily as they did. He definitely needed to be back in bed before his last one wore off.

Not that he was going to say that.

It was a slow process, but Levi managed to get both legs into the pants and stood (very slowly) so that he could pull them up and fasten them with clumsy fingers. The rest of his stuff he was sure Jade wouldn't mind bringing, so he only grabbed his cellphone where it was on the nightstand and shoved it into his front pocket.

Standing up was no easier now than it had been earlier in the morning during Porsha's visit - he could manage short walks alone but needed support. Grudgingly, he knew he couldn't withstand the teleport on his own feet. There was no way his head was going to tolerate such an unnatural shift. He swallowed down the nausea that hit him from the shift in position, but leveled his eyes on the golden ones staring back at him.

"I can probably walk with a little help." He wanted to try and retain a little dignity, at least.

Chase bit his tongue, though it was tempting to reprimand Levi for his attitude. It didn't matter that they wore the skins of Chase and Levi instead of General Labyrinthite and Lieutenant Domeykite, rank still mattered and he expected respect to be shown. So, when the other man apologized he was pleasantly surprised and shrugged. "That's what recklessness and head injuries will get you." That he knew first hand from his more youthful ventures.

As if Levi thinking about the jar brought it to his attention did Chase glance at it in it's spot on the nightstand, by the lamp and nearly tucked out of sight.

Deliberation was clear on the older man's face as he weighed his options. From his understanding, Levi went down hard and while he could acquire painkillers easily, they wouldn't compare to a starseed. "Grab one," he said, looking to the man as he stood. "It's not ideal but until I can monitor you properly allowing you one, in moderation, would not make me a hypocrite." But given his dealings with Wolfeite, whom he was weening off of the gems, he did not want to repeat it with Levi.

Afterall, he expected the man to be smarter than that.

"You won't handle a teleport well," Chase decided, stepping into Levi's space without another word and sweeping him into his arms, bridal style. Despite the mild height difference, Chase did not struggle with his companion's bulk and height. He was stronger as Labyrinthite, but that didn't mean he lacked any as Chase. "I would rather cut out the time it would take to allow you to remain some semblance of pride right now."

Besides, it wasn't like anyone else was going to see them.

It had been a surprise that Chase wanted him to take a starseed at all, but Levi couldn't pass up the opportunity to stave off the true pounding ache of his head beneath the fuzzy, dulled nerves. He had pried off the lid and just slipped his fingers in to grasp the jar when he heard Chase's words. A quick glance shot from the corner of his eyes but couldn't save him - in a split second, his world was turning and his feet were swept out from under him.

If his head hadn't been spinning so badly already, he probably would have yelled out his frustration at Chase inviting himself so brazenly into his personal space. In the end, all he could do was lean his weight into the other man's chest and hold the starseed a little tighter in his hand, careful not to drop it.

"You could've asked first," he mumbled awkwardly, staring anywhere but at the other man's face, especially as he became too aware of the way the strong chest rumbled against his arm with every word Chase spoke.

What in the ******** world slowed down a little and he shifted just a bit in Chase's arms, trying to decide what the most comfortable way to be toted was. He didn't have much experience, at least not while he was conscious. Levi wasn't the sort of man that just let other people carry him around willing and his frustration was only compounded by his general attempts at completely avoiding getting close to Chase at all.

"Ready when you are, General." The faster they left, the faster he got out of Chase's arms.

It was clear that personal space did not matter to Chase when he thought what he was doing was in the other person's best interest. It shows when he sighed, adjusting his hand along Levi's back to secure a more solid grip and his fingers pressed against ribs. He did make a conscious effort to keep from jostling the man in his arms, even when he pressed him more firmly against his chest.

"You would have protested," he said gruffly, whiskey eyes meeting acidic ones. "I don't have the patience for an argument of any sort right now Levi. I pick my battles and so should you." Do not test me, his tone said along with something more weary.

Was the general more worn than he let himself appear?

When the shift from Chase to Labyrinthite happened it was a smooth transition, only made known by the change in fabric and the darker atmosphere that flooded the room. It was not a bare hand pressed against Levi's skin anymore, but, in an effort to make it quick and prevent attention from being drawn to the building, the setting quickly changed from Jade's room to that of Chase's.

Levi would remember it from the last time Chase had brought him there, to care for the wounds a training session had inflicted. Unfortunately for the mossy haired man, Chase had teleported near the door of the room, guise dropping like Obi-Wan discarding a robe. Even worse, he didn't set the man down and instead strode slowly towards the neatly made bed.

It was as barren as last time, with the only sign of change was the laundry folded neatly on the dresser.

Once along side the bed he set Levi upon it with more care than expected. "Besides the head wound, are you experiencing pain in other areas?"

"You seem particularly grouchy today," said the man that was always particularly grouchy. There was an obvious stiffness in him as he felt the muscles in the General's chest shift beneath his weight, and he dropped his eyes from how intense the gaze was staring back at him. The words were a little more personal than he tended to get with the General who, for the most part, he only spoke to when prompted for an answer. The less he said, the less Labyrinthite had to say back.

Instant relief rushed through him once he was placed, with unexpected gentleness, on the bed. A little part of him mourned the arms releasing him but a more sensible, annoyed part of Levi squashed it down with the knowledge that he had felt absolutely foolish the few brief minutes. The bright eyes swung out at the room around him as the other man spoke. It was more familiar than Jade's room but much less comforting.

"No, nothing else hurts." He snapped his bright gaze back to the General, at last as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed to sit up. When he wasn't staring at Chase it was a little easier to remember his place - even if he was still annoyed by it. "She basically just focused on making sure I was braindead."

You seem particularly grouchy today.

A sharp biting response was on the tip of the older man's tongue when he looked down at the half-naked man sitting on his bed. The words did not come because, instead, Chase grit his teeth together and set his jaw. It seemed like this might not be a verbal battle he wished to engage in, for the moment.

The temptation to force Levi dow and beneath the covers was strong, almost overpowering, but he let him swing legs over the side and look up him. "I thought I taught you to be smarter than this Levi." He meant in combat but he also meant that he expected the mossy-haired man to be smarter than he had acted.

"You're fortunate she didn't do that." Though it had been a likely possibility and, with the fact that Levi had gone back too soon after his first head injury served to tell Chase that he'd do it again. "You're not to leave the house without my explicit permission." An order Chase knew his lieutenant wouldn't like, but it was one of the only ways he could be sure that the man recovered and didn't put himself at risk again.

"Any business you have with that company you're so attached to will be dealt with remotely and anything that requires personal interaction with will be handled by me." It was all said with certainty, meaning there would be no arguments. Chase didn't have qualms with pulling rank over the more unruly of his pack, but he didn't particularly enjoy it. "Businesses like yours are nothing I'm not accustom to already."

Sharp gaze turned to the hand closed around the starseed. "Eat it, go to bed and I'll check on you in a few hours."

It took a moment for what Chase had said to sink in and Levi was halfway through protesting when he stopped himself and first his mouth closed around the complaint. Not only did Chase expect him to stay in this house until he was released, but he wanted him to sleep in this bed?

Levi could have laughed if he thought it wouldn't make his head start pounding worse than it already was. What a ******** cruel joke he didn't even know he was playing. Both of his hands curled, one around the starseed and one into the sheets beneath his hand. Bright, acidic eyes lowered both out of his own frustration and the way Chase's tone of voice made his skin crawl. There was no way he could argue about anything - his stupidity had already been addressed by Jade. His need to hurt himself, or maybe just escape for a while, was foolish.

A small flush crept along his cheeks and tainted the tips of his ears scarlet. Shame, for once, instead of awkward feelings.

"Roger that," came the words in a defeated tone. The man scooted back on the bed and pulled the sheets free from the neat fold, until he could drape them around himself. His eyes never raised to meet Chase's again but instead closed as he relaxed into the mattress without a fight, letting his head fall to rest on a pillow that smelled too much like the other man.

At least he was getting peace and quiet.

Whenever he brought strays over, or at least strays he seemed to give half a damn about, Chase always let them stay in his room, his bed. There were guest rooms but the beds were outdated and the sheets stale, and half of them were being worked on with his remodel. It was easier and allowed him to exert more control when it came to checking on them.

He waited until Levi had settled beneath the covers, brow arching when he realized that the other man still kept his jeans on. "I don't recommend sleeping in those." They'd be hot and uncomfortable in the end and Chase left the bedside to stride over to the dresser, pulling a pair of athletic shorts and bringing them over to his company.

Setting them on the bed, he stretched across the bed to put his hand against Levi's forehead, pushing back mossy locks before making a noise and pulling away. "Try not to overdo it," he said sternly, then sighed. "Please."

Then, Chase made his way towards the door. "If you need something, I'll be here."
