Food trucks were apparently a thing here, maybe the American version of the street food he was used to back home? It seemed a trendy thing, not nearly as popular as street food back home was, but Seung was sitting down having a drink watching people on line purchase food and sitting down at tables to eat. It was a small park, located near a lot of clothing stores, and he had a bag of clothing at his feet as he sipped on his flavored water. He was debating getting food, when really it did smell very good.
It was American barbecue, as opposed to what he was used to, he’d had it before at Xanthus’ home so the memories of that made him want to go order as well. But was he actually hungry or was it just the food making him want to eat and not a need to eat? Shifting in his chair he tilted his head a bit, ran his fingers through his hair, and continued to watch people - damn it...it really did look and smell good.

Xander left his lunch at home today and while he could probably go home and get it, he knew if he went home, he might just take a nap instead. He shook his head and headed to the park near the hospital, this city had so many parks. Today he was heading to a food truck a few of his coworkers were talking about, they said it had amazing barbeque. He was skeptical, but there was no harm in trying it.
It wasn’t terrible close a 15 minute drive, lights willing, but he hoped it was well worth it. He parked in the lot and made his way further into the park, his coworkers said the truck was on a lot a little close to the middle. He heard sirens and remember the station was just two block up, he’d passed it on his way here and hoped it was nothing major … going off lunch right into an emergency situation was never fun.
He could smell the food before he could see the truck and his stomach decided to remind him it had been a while since he ate. He walked right up and got in line to get a pull chicken barbeque sandwich.

Two people ahead of the red haired man was Seung, he’d noticed the man approaching and joining the line due to the bright hair. It was just a passing glance as he shuffled closer to the open window so he could order his own meal. He had tried chicken at Xanthus’ home so this time he decided to try the pork. He was more familiar with pork than chicken so he was going with the prefered.
As he got to the window and ordered a pulled pork sandwich for himself, he already had a drink so none was ordered. It seemed he would need a load of napkins, the food looked messy despite the buns it was between. Grabbing a load of napkins he headed off line, after paying and grabbing his food, and went to find a seat, as his previous one had been grabbed - no big deal.

It didn't take long for him to get to the front of the line, while people kept jumping on, the line seemed to flow pretty quickly. Xander took the amount of people around as a good sign that the food was as his coworkers said it was. When he got to the front he asked for a pulled chicken sandwich while looking over menu. They had fries and he decided to order them to go with his meal and a bottled water. He payed, grabbed some napkins and took his meal to one of the tables trying to ignore the looks from some of the other’s around, mostly ladies.
He munched on his fries since fries were never good once they got cold. They were decent, but it really hard to mess up french fries. His gaze wandered to everyone around wondering as he so often did now who was involved in the night time mess they called a war. Honestly he would call it a fiasco. It sometimes, well frequently made his job a nightmare. He’d lost count now on the amount of youma attacks, which he was figuring mostly from the fantastic stories some came into the emergency room, and the still growing coma ward.
After a few more moments he took a bite of his sandwich and smiled because it was as good as this coworkers had said and he would have to tell Ian and the girls about it, assuming they didn't already know. Xander was usually the last to know things.

Seung had sort of found the place on his own, it wasn’t anyone that had told him about the place, but as he took the first bite of his food he had to admit it was good though Xanthus’ sauce had been better. A sip from the bottled drink was taken and another bite of food. It was after the third bite, just as he was about to take a fourth when something happened.
He found it becoming hard to breath and like most people he did start to panic, not knowing what was going on at first. Panic was a normal thing and it did make thinking rather hard, among other things. As he dropped his food his dark eyes, wide as they could go, glanced about as he didn’t know what to even do. It was as he was standing up, shaking some as he tried to get air into his body, that it seemed some people near him noticed something was up. Perhaps they thought he was choking...but he knew he wasn’t. He had figured it out, though it took some time - allergies...there was peanuts in it. Peanuts and tree nuts were the only things he was allergic, though that meant it was a long list, and he knew this as his parents had him tested as a toddler after the first and till now only episode of this.
While he couldn’t talk he hoped someone would notice the bracelet he wore and figure it out. That was one thing he always did, always wore even when sleeping, was the bracelet which in English and Korean said his allergy to the two things. The band of black, braided, leather was only interrupted by a silver metal plate where on one side it was written in English and the other in Korean.

Xander was eating his sandwich his eyes still wandering over the crowd. He had seen Seung earlier, currently he was looking in the other direction. It was the panicked looks and people rising from their seats that had him turning around looking toward the boy. Seeing him he jumped up instantly, he didn’t look like he was breathing very well and people were gathering around him, but Xander pushed past. “Let me through I’m a doctor, clear a space.”
This wasn’t something that happened very frequently, they all looked on with wide eyes. It anger Xander and he turned shouting, “Don’t just stand there, call 911.”
He didn’t wait to see what was going on, instead turning to Seung and looking the boy straight in the eyes and guiding him to sit. Even though he asked if Seung could speak, he was checking his wrist so he found the bracelet. The Korean made him pause momentarily, but when he turned it over he saw. The boy had a nut allergy.
“Do you have an epi pen,” was the next question looking over Seung trying to see where he might put it.

All the people gathering upset him, made the panic worse and made breathing harder. As he tried to get enough air, as he saw darkness starting to spot the edges of his vision. He pushed someone back, as they mentioned choking and helping. Trying to let them know, without words, that he wasn’t choking on his food - he wished he was. He wished it was that simple. Instead he was feeling his chest tightening and air just unable to get past and reach his lungs.
Trying to tell the new person, the one who was a doctor, what was wrong Seung went to lift his arm and show the other, let him see the bracelet but he didn’t need to. The other had seen it and realized what the cause of this war.
Watery, teary, eyes stared at the other as his knees gave and brought him to the ground as he continued to struggle. Arms shaking from panic or something else he was getting pale, too pale, as he was questioned by the other. With the tight pants he had, and no bag aside from his shopping bag, he had no place for an epi pen if he even carried them with him - which he never did. Shaking his head he was scared - he honestly felt scared as he gripped at own shirt.

He frowned at the boy when he said he didn’t have an epi pen and looked to the person who was on the one with the emergency personnel. “Let them know that he is suffering from an allergic reaction to peanuts and is unable to breath. He doesn't have an epipen and to send an EMT from the firehouse, they are closer.”
They would hear the sirens as soon as the emt left the station. In the meantime he looked at the crowd. His car was to far to go try to get anything for Seung, he was sure the EMT would beat him back. “If anyone has an epi pen or even liquid benadryl please give it it me.”
Luck was on their side today as a woman, called out, “yes I do. I always keep one in my purse for my daughter.”
She handed the pen over quickly and followed seconds later with the benadryl as well. Xander wasted no time uncapping the pen and administering it to Seung's thigh. He watched the other closely though his eye contact broke momentarily when the woman forcefully shoved the benadryl at him already poured. He thanked her and put it to Seung’s lips.
“Drink,” generally he wouldn’t give Benadryl, it didn’t always work fast enough, but he hoped it would in conjunction with the pen it would help lessen the risk the reaction would start up again before the EMT arrived.
“Any better,” he asked the boy.

He’d never had to use a pen before, though he did have them at home in his draw, so somewhere in there he felt the pain of being hit with something and injected through his pants. He felt it but it mostly went ignored due to the main problem, which took up almost all of his focus. At least this person knew what was wrong and had told the person on the phone, he could see them out of the corner of his eye. They looked upset, and panicked, but were handling it somewhat…
He was surprised someone had a pen, which was now being used on him, and the liquid in a cup that was being pressed to his lips he struggled to get down, it was hard with his throat so tight and air a serious issue. But he got it down and after a moment he managed a small nod.
The worse were hard to get out, a struggle for him. “Little...never before this….darkening sight.” As more spots were turning up in his field of vision.

Xander had never been so thankful to hear sirens as when he heard the boy say he felt a little better, but his sight was darkening. He put a hand behind the boys back so in case he did pass out, but tried to keep the him focused.
“Try to stay awake, focus and breath. Slowly now, in and out. Let me know if you feel queasy, like you might vomit.”
The sirens were getting louder and he could hear the man who called 9-1-1 on the phone still behind him. They would keep them on until help arrived he was sure. “Help is on the way. Your reaction doesn't seem to be lessening quickly enough, so I’ll get the EMT to give you another dose of epinephrine and let them know you’ve had one. Just stay with me and breath.”
The woman who had given the pen, looked so worried, clutching the benadryl in hand. She was learning a lesson here. Keep two pens, in case the first didn’t work.
The sirens were so loud Xander was sure that the ambulance was entering the park now. Time almost seemed to stand still in that moment.

Staying awake was something he wanted to do but he could feel consciousness slipping even as he tried to slow his breathing, calm the panic, but how to calm what couldn’t be helped? Though people did it all the time - right? He could hear, distantly, the sirens as he slowly blinked his dark eyes, looking around with a heavy head as he tried to focus and breath slower, deeper as well if he could manage it.
This was not something he’d ever dealt with before, at least not since he was a toddler, so he couldn’t remember it and remember what he’d felt then. But as he drew in a breath he did note, vaguely, that he was able to take in more air but it wasn’t as much - not a normal full breath.
“More air….not enough.” He answered in a whisper that was strained. He was glad help was here, it sounded so close - right on top of them. “Will stay?” He asked the red haired man. Would the other come with him? Give him something to cling on to? They weren’t friends, didn’t know each other, but the other had been there for him and was now. It was something and little as it was he’d cling to it as he tried to push himself back, close to the other, tried to get himself to take in a slow, deep, breath.
This wasn’t good...and when his family found out - though how would they...they would be worried. Terry wouldn’t find out, and that was good. No one to tell others who would scold him, point out what a failure he could be and was, he didn’t need or want them to know.

Xander could see the ambulance pulling up now and almost sighed audibly. He was glad to see the other was that the boy was still awake and managing to talk even if he still couldn’t breath well. “Don’t worry,” he starting going to answering, “I work at the hospital, so I’ll go you. Just hold on a second, the EMT’s are heading over now.”
He looked to the EMT as they over, Xander wasted no time letting them know exactly what they were dealing with. He stayed right with the other while the EMT administered another epipen, asked him several questions while they checked him over, taking his vitals.
They informed Seung that anaphylaxis has a chance of reoccuring and with a such a bad reaction they needed to take him to the hospital.

The epipen didn’t bother him, he’d already dealt with it once and while it was a shock when it happened, due to its suddenness, he’d had worse pain in the past. After a short time, while answering the questions as best he could, he could feel his breathing easing and his chest and throat relaxing.
The warning, one he took seriously, had him agreeing to the hospital trip. He had figured it would happen anyway, he hadn’t thought he’d be able to avoid it anyway. At least he could breath better as he had noticed the difference this time. He still felt light headed, he wouldn’t be trying to stand any time soon, but it was an improvement and his dark eyes sought out the red haired man. “Thank you.” He had acted quickly, had helped, had kept a calm and gotten other people to do so as well.
He’d find out, once there, how long he’d be in the hospital for and decide then, when he was in better shape, if he would be calling home to let his family know. If he didn’t have to he wouldn’t, and even if he was kept a while he still might not tell them - he might make up a lie. They’d buy it, without a doubt.

Xander noticed when Seung could breath easier, his color brightened up a bit. He was getting more oxygen and that made Xander relax a bit. The second pen had done the trick and he was sure the benadryl would keep him from breaking out in hives or something like that. After they got the hospital, it was a waiting game to make sure he didn’t react again. They would keep him likely overnight, if the reaction had been less severe it would have been about 4 hours up to 6.
He shuddered to think what might have happened if he hadn’t been there. The woman with the epipen might not have remembered she had it, maybe the ambulance wouldn’t have gotten there soon enough. He tried to shake the thoughts from his head and gave his best Jacobs smile. Seung might not have noticed in his state that the smile likely had a familiar smile. “No problem, its what I do.”
Once they were in the ambulance and on their way to the hospital, most of the talking stopped. Seung was given oxygen and be hooked up to have his heart monitor. Xander patted his arm, to reassure him and keep him from panicking, as it would do more harm than good at the moment.

The extra air provided by the mask was appreciated, even garnered a smile, from the young male who was rather...tired and worn out from the ordeal. With Xander here, remaining in the ambulance, with him he felt a bit more comforted as they hooked him to keep track of his vitals.
He really was hoping he could get a phone call, made by himself, and not someone dialing and talking first as he needed to lie to his parents on where he was. He would just tell them he was at a friends - they’d buy it. They had before and would continue to do so.
As the ambulance brought him closer to the hospital he hoped he could manage the lie, he didn’t want to tell them what had happened. He didn’t want them down at the hospital with him and his mother trying to mother hen him and his cousin scolding him along with his father. He could deal without all of that.
Once more he looked to Xander. “Thank you.” Again. He was thankful. Now to just see how the rest of the day and, as he’d find out once at the hospital, the night would play out.
