It was exact 75 degrees Fahrenheit with winds at around 19 MPH with a light scattering of clouds. Humidity was a low 6% for the day and there was a low chance, (8%), for rain. Marcus had spent exactly 22 minutes checking each weather source he could to confirm the conditions were just perfect before he was to go and show what he had found. Something hidden away behind an old cul-de-sac that was slated for demolition and reconstruction. The land had been bought out by a developer a year ago to make room for much more gentrified housing. High end living for select clientele. Marcus knew about that too, because he'd been contracted to work on one of the homes an that was how he found the secret that was hidden but not. He didn't go looking for odd things, strange things. They happened to him. He just noticed them better than others. The problem was that not everyone was willing to listen and those that did didn't always trust his word. Jeremiah had in the past, taken Marcus's claims at face value. But one to many failed 'shows' and one to many dead leads had put a strain on the man's willingness to hear out the self described 'eccentric' that just wanted to expose the truth that he saw to others. This time however? Marcus was 99.99% certain that he could convince Jeremiah to give him another chance to prove that he wasn't just 'full of stories'. Even if Marcus liked to tell stories. With the right conditions met, Marcus had gone to town and made a beeline from his bike lock towards Jeremiah's office, leaning in to press his ear to the door for a good long while, trying to discern if it was a good time to talk. And if there were the robotic security drone mice scurrying about. Marcus was hoping there wasn't because he'd yet to catch any and he didn't trust them.

Jeremiah's office door was cracked open. Which meant that while he was clearly busy working, sorting through case reports, that he was not turning down people who needed to see him. If anything, it would likely help break the tedium. He was on his fourth cup of strong black tea. Another one of those blends that Eve had recommended to him. He glanced up, blue-green eyes squinting, because he swore that he saw someone right there but ... Well, if there was, they would just come in. (It would stand to reason that after all this time, Jeremiah had actually just told the front desk to direct Marcus directly to him. The Detective Lieutenant could handle him just fine and, in all honesty, with the change of things that he normally would not believe in suddenly being worth believing in ... (You would have thought he had looked up Marcus sooner but there never really seemed to be enough of a break for him to do so.)

One hand curled around the edges of the door at eye level, pulling it open just enough for a second hand to slip a cellphone inside the office. It was angled to give some vision to the person on the other side, yet not much. Satisfied by what he saw, Marcus opened the door, looking calm and a smile that said nothing of a man who'd just been wondering if the two of them had to fear for robotic mice security drones set to record their every move. "Afternoon Jeremiah. I ah-" Walking into the room, he turned, closing the door behind him after smiling politely as the secretary passed to go do whatever it was secretaries did when not answering calls of questions. "I found something a while ago!" His voice held excitement, as if this was really, the one thing that would change all things. "I've been keeping track, checking conditions, and I promise you, it'll be there this time. You- I mean you saw didn't you?" He'd been there in that other place of mist and beings that were not human but not... terrible. Unknown. They were unknowns. Marcus was doing his best to keep an open mind but it was very difficult when he was quite sure half the things he saw were real. "It's like that but not quite. Different. Better. I- Oh, you're working!" Composure turned from excited to contained as Marcus sat himself down. "Sorry, I interrupted your work didn't I? I can go back out and wait if you want."

Jeremiah totally saw that cellphone, blue-green eyes glancing up to it and his fingers stilling on the keyboard as he typed. Had it been so long since the last time Marcus had come in with something? Another thing that turned out to be nothing. Honestly it had been before everything had started, if he thought about it, but Marcus had been- "Afternoon Marcus," he replied easily enough, watching and listening to him. It was especially hard to do this now, to try and chalk it up to it being something not real. With what he knew now? It could just as easily be something as it wasn't. Both now felt equally likely. "It's fine, I was just finishing up." Another sentence typed in and saved and he could log off. "I did see," he added, "but if you saw something, you're going to have to either show it to me or take me to it." Jeremiah was taking this a lot easier and smoothly than he had in the past but things had changed greatly.

Marcus relaxed, an ease lifting knowing he'd not intruded at a bad time. Despite his enthusiasm, the man was not the most easy to tolerate in his eccentrics and he was fulling aware he could be rather overbearing at times. "Saw, well, more like stumbled upon? I thought it was simply a trick of nature but when I went back it happened again. I did a bit of recording and testing and I'm positive that this time it will be there given the conditions. I-" He looked at the man who might have normally rebuffed him and couldn't help but ask. "Did something happen?" It was an innocent enough question, but it was also a loaded one. Of all people in the town, Marcus was perhaps one of the few who would keep a running memo of what happened to who and what rumors hovered in the air from conversations in coffee shops and grocery lines. "I won't pry as to what happened, but, you're not putting up much of a resistance to my claims." Blue eyes narrowed and brows furrowed. "I expected you to tell me to bring proof rather than go along with it. WHICH I did." Fishing into a coat pocket a small handful of nuts rolled out along with a few bright red berries. All ones that would be produced in the winter rather than early summer. "It's a queer place really."

"Don't you remember, Marcus? I was missing." As for what happened. If anything, that single incident - his disappearance and appearance in other ashdown, had been a life changing experience. He was far, far more open to the strange and unusual than before. Jeremiah pushed himself up from his desk to come around and have a look at what was being shown. "Well, you brought proof of it - which I prefer you do and I've glad you're finally doing that." His head tilted to the side, picking up one of the berries. They looked oddly familiar and definitely out of season for the weather. "You want to show me where you found these? You can give me a rundown of what, ah, things you've seen lately." Another person's eyes - even if eccentric - on other ashdown would be informative.

" But you came back." It was a poor defense and he knew it. Jeremiah had come back seemingly unharmed but others? Others less so. "Let's not talk about... what happened. Walls have ears here and we both know some secrets are better left that way. Anywho, you can understand why I found these growths rather- special? Special." That was a nice sane sounding word for them. "It's not too far. Oh." He paused. He hadn't driven here, only taken his bike. "I came on my bike and its a bit of a walk. Would you mind driving? Its ten minutes by car. But the spot should last for the next few hours. Always has in the past." azuredreams we can skip 2 loc idccccc

"Obviously." That the walls have ears here because Jeremiah had no desire to discuss this sort of thing anywhere near work unless he had no choice. "I've no problem driving." He really did not. Jeremiah lead Marcus out of the department and to his car (forever meant to be on the other side of the pond, not here with the steering on the proper right side) before he was driving them both to the location under the other man's instruction. "These spots always last?" he asked, as he got out the car after turning it off and parking. iStoleYurVamps POS tagger returns! *lays down*

Marcus exited the vehicle with a noticeable care to not slam the door or swing it carelessly. Just because he might not drive didn't mean he'd not pay head to those who owned such 'very expensive things' (TM). Humming as he started looking around he stopped, turned and smiled. "That's the odd part. They do last. I mean usually things like this are once in a blue moon and when you try to show someone, they just up and vanish. But I've tracked it, timed it. It's consistent in location and duration." He sounded in awe despite himself. It was a great find and he hoped, prayed, and was needing to be right about this. Something that wasn't just his mind playing tricks on him. Something... real. With a pep in his step, Marcus started a brisk pace to the edge of where the small grove rested just at the edge of the site. The leveled area dipped off and visibly, one could vaguely tell that it was a gentle slope. Why it was odd however was that even with the sun in the sky and the warm air around them, a dense fog covered the area and the ground at the top of the hill looked almost frosted over. "It starts here." He began, hands suddenly fidgeting with each other, his nerves setting in. "If you can't already tell though-" Behind them, sounds of birds, of human occupation was a dull hum. From the grove below however? Silence.

"In my experience they shouldn't, at least the ... spots that I am thinking of." Jeremiah's eyes saw the world a little differently after other ashdown had become part of his reality. He found himself paying close attention as they walked, looking over the area for that familiar shift in his vision that told him they were close to a place where the veil was thin. Where crossing over was possible. The fog was odd, the ice more so ... "This is-" he started and stopped, a hand reaching out as if he could command magic for a moment but then pulling back to push into his pocket. Jeremiah was always dressed for cold weather now, so the change in temperature did not bother him. If anything, he was far more at ease with it. "There's more like this, Marcus?" he asked suddenly. "Not just here?"

Marcus was over the moon. It had stayed, was here, and finally, FINALLY, Jeremiah wouldn't be able to just brush him off anymore. Marcus was 50 shades of pleased with himself. "thank god." He muttered, going deeper into the area. "It's not- well. I don't think we're leaving the area per-say." He gave a shrug, walking over to a few bushes. They were the dark green of winter leaves and the red berries put them into stark contrast with the dull greys caused by the heavy mist. "When its over, the place is the same landscape wise. Same bushes, trees, paths- only its not winter. The leaves are in different color. I'm not a horticulture expert, but in having to plan landscape a few times, I know enough to pick up on what plants looks like what during certain seasons. It just turns.. wintry." It was not a very scientific explanation in the slightest. "As for more places like this? Maybe. I run into small places but they never last. This one does. It's just-" Shoulders lifted up then down. It was silent save for them. Not even the distant sound of cars or the city could be heard. Much less any animals or even wind for that matter. "It's like it's frozen. Not just like winter but- in time. No sound, no movements. Creepy but harmless."

"It is ..." Jeremiah shook his head. "It is almost as the veil is entirely broken here." Though those words may not have had meaning to Marcus but he knew of other ashdown and it's strange contradictory weather. It was cold there when it was warm here and warm there when it was cold here. Or that was the way it seemed. "It's vaguely concerning that this is even stable and stays." Blue-green eyes looked over to Marcus. "Do you have any notes about this? About how many and their locations? I would be interested in looking them over." iStoleYurVamps marcus, it's christmas, jeremiah totes wants to get the infos from you.

"Veil?" Marcus asked, not having heard the term really used in such a way outside of books before. Fantasy books no less. Still, he watched Jeremiah more than the area, looking around only on occasion to assess if he needed to do anything or if it would fade. "Well, it's not been unsafe and it's usually just come and gone. Like a tide I suppose." In and out, regular, (though not tied to the moon, he'd already checked that). "I have some notes, recordings really with date logs and locations. So yeah. Maybe....six pages if I printed the whole excel file? Dunno. Been a while since I checked." Walking over, he cracked a branch. It should have been a green, but it was dull brown at it's core. He doubted it was from the cold. If anything, the poor tree had gotten stressed from the construction. "Honestly, I'm just wondering if these places will start cropping up on more of my work sites. They're really close to residential developments. And in some parts, harder to just write off as morning fog and such."

Jeremiah's eyes had an odd reflective quality whenever light hit them just right. It was more noticeable when he stepped into shadowed spots, clearly looking for something. "Ah ... whatever it is that separates this side from the other side. I say veil because it seems fitting." Also because he did read fantasy books but that was beside the point. Jeremiah looked over to Marcus and nodded. "If you'd be willing, I'd like to see your notes. I might be able to see if there's a pattern or something that corresponds to what I know of other ashdown ..." This was truly odd because he had not seen anything like this at all. Was it somehow related to the instability of the cage? "It's a valid concern," he agreed. "I've been watching for reports from townsfolk about things that are out of the ordinary and if we start seeing more things like this ..." His head shook. "There are people who are not ready for this."

Marcus saw it then, freezing as he stared. That had to be a trick of the light. It wasn't, well, it wasn't normal. A small voice in Marcus's head said that maybe this wasn't Jeremiah. That maybe he'd been mistaken. But if it wasn't Jeremiah, then- the Fakemiah couldn't know that he knew. Act normal. Well, Marcus normal in any case. "I'll bring my notes by later. For now, let's head back out. It's cold." Plus the eyes had unnerved him. "People are never ready for the truth Jeremiah. Really. I've been going on for over a year about the government, you really think I don't know that already?" He still huffed at the man. "Really," Marcus muttered under his breath.
