The Concept
Using non-digital mediums, create an art piece that a Soquili or Familiar might have left behind. The idea is sparked by cave paintings but it can be anything, two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Write a short explanation of what the Soquili or Familiar was intending it to be or convey to viewers. This Piece is Rocking! Username: Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): This can be one of your own or an NPC. Explanation: Preference List: Any other things of note: The Rules
This is a judged contest. The main judge is Spelldancer but if she is stuck on whom to choose she will bring in two others. This counts as your event freebie. Non-digital mediums only. Images should be 500x500 or thumbnails. You can link to a larger version if desired. The artist’s username must be present in the photograph and not drawn in using a computer. Art must be done by the person entering. Art needs to follow Gaia TOS. I will be judging by the following criteria: Creativity (this includes both the art and the explaination), execution of idea, and feasibility (can the chosen species make the art).
If you have any questions please PM spelldancer.

This Piece is Rocking! Username: AstoriaFallen Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): The buffalo Explanation: Self portrait of the stallion mare and myself (if speaking from the familiars point of view) with a hoof print around it. Preference List: Just the buffalo Any other things of note: I did try to draw it initially with a pencil in my mouth but realized that wasn't really going to work haha. Since that's how they would of had to do it. I would imagine he used charcoal or another rock to scratch the figures onto the wall, quite possibly even mashed up berries as paint and a stick with a frayed end as a makeshift brush. XD But I have nothing like that around my house so a pencil had to suffice. smile

This Piece is Rocking! larger versionUsername: sage_the_vampirc_angel Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): Teenti illumExplanation: What started as Teenti's expermints in writing and offering general directions her her home, slowly became her way of explaining things she had seen in the area. A calling card for not only herself and her home, but also for the wildlife she had seen in the area. Preference List: stallion, mare, buffalo Any other things of note:Teenti is fasinated by almost any kind of art including writing. I would imagine this would be some of her first attempts at trying to make her name look pretty along that slowly became painted over with other things that caught her fancy This would have been painted primarily via the blades on the end of Teenti's tentacle like extremities. Which she usually only either uses the point of the blade of on the sorta flat sides. Explaining why some of the colors run over their intended space of the images show through each other or look scratchy. The color probably came from the small blobs floating along Teenti that was then watered down (sorry about the pens and pencils holding it down. Started to curl after awhile)

This Piece is Rocking! Cave paintingUsername: Cheyriddle4 Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): Verde the tiny lizard. A NPC that has yet to be in the shop. Explanation: Verde grew quite bored one day. She had come to quite an artblock and simply couldn't figure out what to draw. Then a soquili came by with quite an odd shaped face in which she decided that perhaps she will just try a quick sketch. Dipping her tail into the dyes from different plants in which she munched and mushed up. She then starts to walk around dragging her tail behind her. Preference List: 1,2 Any other things of note:I just thought the idea of a lizard making art with their tail was too cute of an idea. Around the outside are little prints of her tracks.

This Piece is Rocking! The Finished Product, In Progress w Pencils, Initial lines, Early SketchUsername: ~Latonia de la Courtel~ Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): Toma (A Traveling Mammoth- NPC) Explanation: The idea is that the Cave Art herd claimed a relatively wide range of grasslands of their territory, and at one point offered sanctuary to an injured mammoth. Before the bull left, he painted artwork of the Lead Stallion of the Herd as a token of his gratitude. Preference List: Stallion, Mare, Reroll Any other things of note: Other than a few sharp lines to get my outlines correct, I tried to keep most of the art in a sketch feel. Three shades of colored pencil used (black, light brown, red brown). Fantastic contest idea. ^.^

**I edited my preference list, it was supposed to say 1 2 3 but it would seem being on a cell phone I forgot the 2 3....if this is not allowed I understand** Code: This Piece is Rocking! 9] Username: Fuzzy Gumdrop Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): A raccoon friend of the Cerynei herd used in the explanation Explanation: The fight over a between two herds side by side finally ends. A meadow full of lush green grass to eat, a slow moving stream to drink from, trees to gain shade and nearby caves for protection bordered on the lands of the two herds. One herd is that of Soquili, the hooved, and the other of Cerynei, the cloven. An attack in the meadow on a hooved member by 3 kalona brings both herds together to save him. After the Soquili is saved, the leaders of the two herds meet and finally agree to share the meadow. With the help of a nimble raccoon, the moment is drawn upon the cave wall so that all future generations known of this moment. Preference List: 1 2 3 Any other things of note: I used charcoal from our firepit haha

This Piece is Rocking! Username: Teh Cheryl Who made the art (Which Soquili or Familiar?): Nana and (grudgingly) DaemonExplanation: Nana whined, nudging her mate incessantly over to the small section of the rock that was smooth. Daemon grudgingly followed, grumbling under his breath but unable to resist the urgings from the other smaller wolf. “What is it, woman?” he finally snapped.
Nana nipped at his ear sharply at his tone, but whined again, nosing the flat rock with a happy smile. Her nose was covered in brown, flaky speckles, joining with her natural black freckles and her paws were equally covered in spattered mud. Despite her mess, she yipped happily when Daemon finally took notice of her drawing, her tail wagging back and forth in excitement and kicking up a small cloud of dirt and dust in its wake.
Daemon looked up at the drawing, taking in the crudely drawn two figures, before looking back at his oddly pleased mate. Nana took one paw, setting it on the standing figure in the drawing before gesturing it back to Daemon.
“That one…” Daemon said skeptically while raising an eyebrow, “is me? And am I to assume the other one is you?”
Nana yipped in assent, giving Daemon a hardy affectionate nudge in response followed by a short, sweet lick on his nose.
Daemon wrinkled his nose, but did not move away or attempt to dissuade her. He simply continued to stare at the crude, simple figures that Nana had painstakingly drawn. Nana did not speak, and Daemon had long discovered that it was because she could not as opposed to would not. She could yip and whine and howl as well as the next wolf, but Daemon had never heard his mate speak a single word. He knew she loved him; she showed it to him in her body language, in her sweet kisses and gently nuzzles. This though, he thought as he continued to stare at the painting, this warmed him in a way that her previous gestures of affection had not.
Daemon did not disguise the glow of affection he felt for Nana as he gave her a sweet lick behind her ear, enjoying the content rumble that came from her chest as a result. She carefully separated herself from him after a few moments to take a few steps to the side, finally nosing a flat slab of rock to sit before the both of them. The rock had the slightest dip in the center, where a puddle of thin brown clay sat. Nana yipped again, dipping one of her front paws into the clay while giving Daemon a pointed look. Carefully, she turned back to the drawing, holding her wet paw in the air, and firmly pressed it against the rock, just to the side of her finished drawing. She took a step back, satisfied, and looked back at Daemon expectantly.
When Daemon remained still, she sighed, nosing the flat slab forward again in emphasis and lifting her paw to mime dipping it back into the makeshift paint.
Daemon sighed but assented, copying Nana and pressing his paw print into the stone wall before settling back to admire the handiwork. Daemon smiled as he curled himself around his sweet, perfect little mate. “You silly little thing,” he murmured into her ear. She may not be able to speak her love to him, but she had found a way to immortalize it in stone. One day they would both be gone, but maybe this painting, this simple declaration of her love for him, would last so much longer.Preference List: 1 2 3 Any other things of note: Made with charcoal and soft clay pastels mixed with water. Painted mostly with fingers (aka Nana's claws and her big ol' puppy paws). Liberally smudged for authenticity. rofl Also sorry for the long 'explanation' but I had been sitting on that little scene for awhile with those two. Nana has waited 10 years for her mate. <3
